Week of October 5 WISH Walking & Running Club

Ang, sorry about your family's loss.

Checking in with my WISH crew... It has been a really sluggish week. I feel like I can barely move when I'm out there. I don't know what is wrong with me. I ran close to 15 miles this week, average pace for the week per my good friend Garmin was 11:43. I seriously will not come close to beating last year's Gobble Jog 10K pace of 10:59. I feel like lead and my lung capacity doesn't feel as strong... :confused3 I think I can use that time again for the Peachtree???

On a happier note my knee did OK this week. That is ironic cause I went to the new orthopedic on Wednesday. After I waited for thirty minutes they came out and told me they didn't have me down. :headache: Told me they could squeeze me in about an hour and a half from then. I obviously had to reschedule. They are working me in on Monday, but now I don't know if I should even go! :confused3

I also got a second opinion this week about my surgery I had back in June. They want $8,000 to fix it!!! Regardless, I'm glad I went cause it confirmed what I thought. Now I can be more prepared when I go talk about revisions. I really hope I don't get the run around. This has not been a good experience.

I almost had a hissy fit Tuesday. DH took the Garmin and when he came home it went dead. I depend on that thing as much as my running shoes. Seriously. He finally was able to get it back to life by resetting it. I need my Garmin. And I really didn't want to buy another given I'm flipping out about our 401K and the debt we have, but that is another story...

Have a great weekend WISH babes! :thumbsup2

I need my Garmin.

Shan,

Check your local Craigslist. Now that they've been out a while, you can find great deals on them.

Retail is $365.

I got a 405 w/heartrate monitor for $295. Then three months later, my running friend got one without a heartrate monitor for $150. Both were brand spanking new.

People get them as gifts, and they've already bought one. So they sell their spare.

Melanie and Erin...welcome back!!!!

Ang...so sorry for your loss.

I haven't done anything since the race last weekend. I did manage 3 miles on the TM today, but nothing fancy.

NOTHING FANCY So when you are on the treadmill doing something fancy....does that mean you run backwards or something?:rotfl2:

My runs on the TM are pretty, well, boring. Straight ahead and for variety I change the speed.;)

:rotfl2:

I got out for 5 miles this afternoon. It was hard. I am definately not hydrating enough.
I don't think I had any water at all yesterday. Not good.
I did w4/r1 for the first 4 miles, then just walked the last mile.
I finished in 1:08:09. 4 mins faster than my 5 miles on Tuesday.

Erin - :wave2:

Shan - does the doctor who did you first surgery have any responsiblity in footing the bill for the fix? Regardless, having to go through another surgery stinks! Hang in there with the running - it will get better. Promise!

Jackie - good luck with your 10 miler this weekend!

- welcome back!

Ang - I'm very sorry for your loss. Granpas are so special. :(

Hi everyone! I've been posting on my team's thread but not doing a good job at posting here every now and then. :guilty:

I'm afraid I've been very relaxed with my walking/running efforts. I've kind of put my running shoes in the back of my closet in favor of my cycling shoes. At least I'm getting out there but I need to start concentrating on W/R due to a half marathon coming up in a few weeks. Yikes! I know that I'm just opening myself up for injuries. :sad2: I'm actually just using this upcoming Half as part of my training for the San Antonio RnRoll half coming up in November so I'll probably just take it easy this time around.

Jackie - I used to do a W4/R1 but Jeff Galloway suggested I try a W2/R30 sec. He said it would be more efficient. :confused3 I gave it a try and I think I like it better than the W4/R1. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not suggesting you do the same. You obviously need to do what works for you but just thought I'd let you know about a variation of the W4/R1 that works for me. :)

Liz - I really like your walking form. It reminds me of my husband's form. I wish I could imitate that I can't for some reason. Keep up the good work!

Shan - Oh my goodness! I didn't know you were having problems with the results from your first surgery. That's what I get for not coming on this thread. Sending you lots of :wizard: for your injuries.

Erin - sorry you won't be joining us at WDW in January. But, I can't feel too sorry for you --- you're in HAWAII!!!!!! That's the next best thing, right? :teeth:

Jeff - you just keep on going and going. And, at a fast pace, too! Where do you get all of this energy?

Duckie - I'm sorry about your accident.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! :cheer2:

Kristi, the doctor will do revisions, but has been dismissing some of my concerns, which I personally feel are pretty major. Going for the second opinion at least validated them for me. I think I might have a battle getting him to fix it all. I really like him, but this is not cool at all. Regardless at least, I'm gonna have to pay anesthesia costs again, hoping he will waive the operating room costs. This has so not been worth it.

Hey, just wanted to let you all know that the Nautica Triathlon in Malibu is on TV right now. Pretty cool. Lots of celebs doing. They just interviewed Matthew McConnaughey, it is his first tri and he looked a bit in AWE of the whole thing.

I had a 5k race this morning. Didn't do too bad - I actually got a PB today. 33:38 total time, 10:51 minute per mile pace. 178th overall out of 326 and 14th in my age group out of 33. It was in my town so I decided to run/walk the 2 miles to get there - I somewhat regreted it as I was trying to get there to pick up my packet but actually I think it helped me get my PB. I have a problem with my legs getting sore in the first 2 miles or so. Although I was suppose to do 11 miles today I am happy with what I have done (at least I got 5 miles in)

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!! I am on rest for the rest of the weekend. :cheer2:

Hello everyone! It's been a while . . .

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been going through motivation/life issues. Since the Phila Distance Run last month, I have had hardly any motivation at all, and have really questioned my commitment to running. From my reading etc. I gather that being a bit down after a race is normal, but it still sucks! And being busy, busy, busy with work and the kids does not help.

This afternoon I am packing my kids off to my mom's and whisking my husband off for one night at the Glasbern Country Inn to celebrate his birthday. Really, really looking forward to it!

Anyway, I am committed to getting back on track with running. I did an easy 3 miles on Thursday, and have a 6-miler on tap for tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. If the weather is as beautiful tomorrow as it is today it should be nice to be outside. It is an absolutely gorgeous fall day here!

It always helps me to come back here and remember that I'm not alone.

Susie--what half are you doing? I ask b/c I'm doing a half in Conway on the 25th. Good luck finding those running shoes in the back of the closet!;)

Ang--sorry for your loss:hug:

Shan--sorry this has been such an ordeal for you. I hope you get some resolution soon!

As for me, training for my half has been going well. I have a goal of getting a sub-2 hour half. I went out for a 13.1 training run today and finished in 2:01:09!:cool1: I know I can shave off 2 minutes somewhere along those 13 miles. Having a bit of hamstring issue, but nothing to painful to stop running.
