Week of October 26th WISH Walking & Running Club

Hey all. Congrats to all the TOT and MCM Runners/Walkers. Also, congrats to everyone else who got in a race this past weekend.

As for me I got 6 miles in yesterday. Felt pretty good other than the wind smacking me in the face and it was cool out. First little bits of snowflakes here today. Brrr.

Kristi,
Sorry to hear about the grumpy butts. I mean I'm glad they are out there getting after it, but come on.

I am starting my marathon "diet" today, stating off my cutting out my pepsi addiction. I have alot of weight I need to lose before the marathon so need to clean up the eatting, pump up the workouts and add some weight and stretch training to the routine.
I am right there with ya, Kim!
Except I am starting tomorrow - birthday dinner out tonight! ;)
Soda is a huge downfall for me as well. And I am going back on that WW wagon.

Enjoy your birthday dinner Kristi!!!!

Feeling good so far, no pop all day:thumbsup2

Greetings!

I have been lurking for quite some time on the W.I.S.H boards and built up the courage to join in on the action! :goodvibes

I am in great shape. I run/walk daily. I am not the best at this point but with training, I will become better.

I am looking to join in on the fun and hopefully participate in an upcoming marathon.

Chris :thumbsup2

Chris - :welcome:

Kristi and Kim - I'm with both of you!!

Carrie - cheese?? I got some cheese.

Debra: I saw you in that photo that was taken of some Disneyrunners- hehe. You can't hide forever!!

AFM: It's chilly here this AM in Sunny South Florida. It is 60 and windy. I am waiting to do my 4 miles until the sun has been out longer and its not so windy. I WILL vote today - no matter how long I have to wait. It opens at 10am and I plan to be there around 9am.

** PS - THose that want a great WISH racing team hat and/or visor please visit that thread. We need a min order of 36 and only have 22 right now. The link is in my sig below. **

Nothing to report from me today... BUT....

Carrie - Would you like some REAL WISCONSIN CHEESE to go with your whine? I can hike it across the lake!!!

OH and we had snow yesterday also. It all melted right away, but 40 minutes away they had an inch on the ground (which is likely melted by now also). I need to get my DD8 new boots!!!

Wow - I have been out of the loop lately - well with posting here anyway - I have been steadily working on my marathon training. This past Saturday I hit the 12 mile mark (so far the furthest distance I have gone) I was having my normal monthly breathing problems so I had to walk alot of it. I really need to get into a better habit of warming up my legs prior to a run - I normally start out good - and am able to get through the first mile but then I have to stop and walk for a bit because the legs are burning and then I start to run a bit again and I alternate between running and walking - I am sure my running pace could be slowed down a bit since I seem to run/walk at the same pace as a group of people in my marathon training and they run the whole time. I also think I like my walk breaks and rely only them a bit too much.

I have a half marathon Nov 9 so only 1 more long run before that. I have kinda combined a training program for the half marathon with full marathon training and so far the half marathon training has been further distances then the full marathon training (that is all changing this week and next)

I have a question for those experts out there - since I have the half marathon in 2 weeks should I follow the half marathon training program and taper prior to the half marathon or use the actual half marathon as a training run for my full marathon (I have never done either) I just don't know what I should run this Saturday - the half marathon training calls for an 8m long run and the full marathon training calls for an 11m long run - I am actually thinking of doing 12m again or maybe even try for 13m. I am usually not too sore in the days after my long runs but throw a little 5k race in the mix and then I am sore for days.

Sorry for being so long winded there!! LOL I am looking forward to the marathon in Jan except I am getting kinda nervous - 26 miles is a LONG way) I am proud of myself actually making it to 12 miles I just can't imagine how proud I will be of myself after making it 26 - its just getting out there and actually doing it that is scary to me.

Judy - I just wanted to say I hope you feel better real soon.
Tracy- funny that you get pinkie pistols - I end up giving the thumbs up sign all the time - I don't even realize it and then before you know I'm like the Fonz!! I am loving this weather we are having down here - to bad it won't last longer.
Kristi - thanks for the report of the Hampton Half - too bad those biddies had to be annoying - why people have to be that way I will never know. Sorry to hear about your legs and hopefully the fluid will stay away. Chad had a great time - that is AWESOME.
Chris - welcome to the WISH team!!!
Kim - I wish I could be strong enough to cut out the 1 can of Coke I like to have a day - well some days its more than that and sometime its more soda during the day then I would like but its SO hard to cut it out.
TOT races and MCMers - Congrats on your races and welcome back!!!

Chris: :welcome: you've come to the right place.......we're all here just trying to improve whatever condition we're in, no matter how slow or fast we are. Glad you decided to join us!

Jen: glad to see you posting again....and yes, I actually met the elusive Debra and she is fine! (just busy)

Jeanne - Glad you got to see Debra. I "met" her during the full marathon last year. She flip flopped with us dozens of times. Mel and I didn't know it was actually Debra until after the fact. It was fun!!!!

Tricia - YOU CAN DO IT! I did the full last year, thought I was going to die. But after the fact it was one of the best experiences of my life. It takes dedication and determination!!!! And I finished!!!

Chris - Welcome!!!

Tricia - I would just sub teh half for your 14-miler adn do teh schedule fro teh full (provided we are on the same program). The 6-miler this weekend gives you a nice little taper and teh 8-miler after is not too bad. JMO. GOod luck!

I did 60 min of yoga last night. RUn got posteposned due to snow and sleet. Ugh.

Carrie - what program are you following for the full? I am actually following a training program put together by the coaches of my marathon training program and I am sure I could ask(email) them the question about what to run this Saturday - but this is quicker - LOL

Tricia - I'm doing MfM. It calls for 6 this week, 14 the following and 8 the week after that.

Hi everyone! I went to see my PT last night and he said I pulled my piriformis muscle. He gave me a couple of stretches and said that I could keep running. Yay! So with that, I'm going out for a 3-miler after work. I'll probably go a bit slower just in case. Right now I want to make sure I can stick to my training schedule and get my miles in. I have to admit that part of me was hoping that he'd say no to running because it is mighty chilly today

Kim - Thanks! I'm hoping to get a much better time than I did at the Scotiabank 1/2! And... I'm with you on the diet! I've got to start eating better but have to admit that it's a lot harder in the winter. But if I can stick to it, I can spoil myself when I get to Disney!

Chris - Welcome! :wave2:

Kristi - *lol* at the walkers although I wouldn't have wanted to walk around them either. It's kind of funny to read about walkers complaining about runners instead of the other way around.

Kat - I'm slowly building up a Mt. Laundrymore of my own. I'm looking forward to the extra hour we get this weekend so that I can hopefully make a dent in some of my chores AND have some time for myself...

Thanks for the cozy, warn welcome! :) I am in Florida and it is started to get cold. Well, it isn't cold for most of you - but 50-60 degrees is cold to me! haha!

Welcome Chris!!!!!

Well day 2 was not as good as day 1 with no pop...however, it was also the first day back to work after being away since Oct 17th and my desk was a mess.....not a good day at work.....

Vicki: Mike has piroformis as well......he has done PT forever and there is nothing that seems to work for him

Carrie: WTG on the Yoga!!!

Jean: Hi Jean!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was great seeming you on the weekend!!! FINALLY!!!!!

Tricia: It really is hard to cut it out, it is definatley a addiction for me but I did it before for 5 months I hope I can do it again.

Tracy: Burrrrrr it is getting cold in FLA

Hey everyone....
Just thought I would say that I am sitting in the Florida Room, chillin with my laptop, watching Ellen and feeling the lovely 66 degree weather coming through my open windows. Just love being able to shut off the A/C for a few days. According to the WC lows in the early morning will be in the low 50's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! That is COLD - to me anyway. Thanks Canada for sending the cold temps!!
It did not even hit 70 degrees today!! Very rare for this area in October!!

I did my 4 miles today when the wind wasn't blowing so much and alittle bit warmer. Felt great!! No pinky-pistols today, non what so-ever. Barely broke a sweat!!

I was able to vote today!! Early voting opened at 10am. I got in line at 9am with about 60 people in front of me. THe voting started promptly at 10am. I got in the door at 10:30 and was done by 10:45am!! Yes, got it done!!

Hi all!

Sorry I've been MIA. It's midterm season, what can I say. I've only been posting on my team thread.

Anyways, no running for me today. I'm still recovering from Sunday's awesome race (see Race Report thread) and tomorrow is my final Teach for America interview. So send some pixie dust, good thoughts, and prayers this way.

Best,
Jennifer

Jeff I read that and was like they had to have wrote that up wrong. Although I won't be at Disneyland this year I don't think they will do that. At least I hope not.

I did 6 miles last night in the cold and wind. Was kind of proud of myself though. Last year I would have just went inside on the treadmill. Tracy, I'll take your 66 degree temps any day. :thumbsup2
