Week After Turkey Day Shenanigans

Also I'm reallllllly debating MM this trip. I'm sort of a photography snob and most of the pics they took of us last year weren't super thrilling for me.

That said, I have one really great pic of the family in front of the castle (taken on my DSLR by a PP photographer once I set it all up) that I love. And the rest of the family pics I have are all selfies on my iPhone haha.

We are planning a few M&G this year in hopes my youngest isn't as terrified as he was last year. And my oldest loved looking at the ride pics/videos too (before they expired and I never bought any. Oops!).

Sooo...Wwyd? I'm still taking my good camera and have no problem asking them to take pics with it. Skip MM and buy a few later if we love them? Or get it and make the most out of the package??
I didn't buy it last year but we still took a ton of photo pass pics and I ended up buying it at the higher price when we got home. This time we are buying in advance. I'm not sure what I would do if I had a really nice camera to use though.

It is so nice for the M&Gs as you know - you can focus on what your kids are doing instead of trying to get the shot. And the ride photos are great! It's so nice to get home and not have to pick and choose, but just have them all. And you can still get some awesome shots with your camera.

Can I just take a minute here to say how relieved I am that we're not supposed to be in Florida this weekend? There's a Halloween party scheduled tomorrow night and I'm seeing all kinds of posts from people who are understandably upset as they try to figure out what is going to happen or what they're supposed to do. I'm sure it will all work out in the end, but being in limbo like they are this week would be really tough.

Yes! I think I have come to think that too...we just might have to do it every year, but we also like to do other trips and the money that goes to disney should really be going to retirement. So we will see! We own our own business so our income can be very unpredictable. But God has been very gracious to us so far. ;)

I have that same nervousness. I think it's because it is so much packing. But reality is if you told me we had to leave tomorrow I could get everything together today! It really is all in my mind.

Chances are if you call u will get an incorrect answer. There is a "bridging " thread on here and it has lots of info and experiences. I would read that and know ahead of time exactly how much you should owe when going to guest services. If they give you a different number you should question it.

Wdwprepschool.com has a great chart for showing the breakeven point for AP's.

@Iowamomof4 you should really look into upgrading the 10 day PH to AP. It would make for a very reasonable return trip cost! ;)

In 2014 my parents paid for our trip and we had 9 day PH's. I had no idea you could upgrade...and we went back less than 13 months later and bought 6 day PH's. Had we known it would have saved so much!

Re: memory maker. What is the early purchase discount and how early do we need to purchase? Thx!
If you go to your MDE account and click on memory maker. There's an advanced price of $149 vs $169. There is a 3 day wait period for the memory maker. The way I read it is if you buy the memory maker ahead of your trip it's a $20 discount. It says you can start using it Oct 8 if you purchase today. The $169 price you can start using immediately.
I didn't get it last year. I ended up getting 3 pictures that were better quality than what I took with my camera. They were $15 or $20 a piece. I didn't go crazy scanning my band and still had more than 100 pictures to go through.

I've been following that main thread all day. I feel terrible for those people.

Thanks! We have had MM the last 2 years but we were with big groups and it was worth it. But I do like not having to worry about trying to take pics while my 2 arms keep track of my 4 kids during meet and greets. Haha, actually they are really good, more shy than anything but it is hard juggling all their "stuff" while holding a camera. And me and DH are too shy to ask the photographer to use our camera. So I'm sure we will get it.

Everyone going to Uni is making me crazy jealous!! My kids are too small to really make it worth the 1 day expense but gah. I want to go sooooo badly!!
DH wants to go to Uni to see all the Horror/Halloween stuff. I'm pretty sure all that is gone by Thanksgiving. One year when DD is a little bigger we will go to see Halloween there. DD has no fear and would love all the spooky Halloween stuff. She keeps asking me to take her back to Home Depot to look at all their Halloween decor.

Since I'm going to a conference everything is À la carte. No dining package availability & MM separate. There is a "discount" on park tickets. It's about $100 cheaper for the 3 of us. The room price makes it all worth it though.
I didn't get MM last year. I'm prob going to get it this year so that it isn't a pain trying to get pics. I have zero filter and don't mind asking the photographers to use my camera. It may be better to just enjoy the moment though.

2 years ago my friend got rained out of the Christmas party. They ended up giving a free pass to another Christmas party that week. They offered something else to people that were not able to attend a different party. I can't remember what it was though.

I agree with you. Plus we get a big kick out of the ride videos taken for the MM too!

Well, you can really only take the cost of MM off one of the AP's so that's only somewhat of a discount. By my calculations yesterday, it would only cost me about $300 each to upgrade our adult 10-day hoppers to AP's. The MM is $150, so one of the AP's essentially costs $150 and the others are $300.

I currently have a 10-day park hopper also. I dont think its a bad deal to upgrade since I will be going back for 5 days next year for Food and Wine for a girls only trip with a friend. I was going to purchase MM also for this trip, but I think it will work out better getting the AP, but I will end up buying a TIW card, need the 20% off the drinks. :drinking1 I still think I will make out better even with that.

I was at Disney for Hurricane Jeanne in 2004, though we were staying at the Dolphin for a conference. We were one of the last flights in to MCO before it started, spent a nice totally crowd free evening at Epcot before the storm came. We were lucky that we could wander around the hotel and the ride out crew were amazing. At that time, there was no MDE and no real big internet presence for Disney, so we got our information from talking to whatever staff was at the front desk. The day after, the parks opened, late, but they opened. We stood at the International Gateway entrance for over an hour waiting to get in for our Akershus breakfast. Im sure Disney doesnt even know what to do, they cancel the party and nothing happens, they get ****.... they cancel at the last minute, they get ****... Sometimes people just have to go with the flow and let the unpredictable weather do its thing.

I think it was all on the other thread where I was talking about this, but we're looking at adding a 2nd MVMCP to our itinerary now. Of course, we haven't purchased any tickets to anything yet, but I digress...

Anyway, we're considering adding the 11/27 party. I know, I know... I already talked someone else out of it somewhere along the way because I'm pretty sure it'll be crazy crowded with Thanksgiving stragglers hanging on for one last hurrah before heading back to the "real world", but it's the night that would work the best for us. Anyone else going that night?

Looking at the first thread most people are going the 29th - when is your other one again??

After thinking about the fireworks schedule for MK that week, I'm super duper duper tempted to tell DH we just *need* to do the MVMCP. I feel like that would be the best "extra" for the money...if anything we will probably decide once we are there. We could always wait and see how we'd might EMH at MK goes and get tickets for the Friday MVMCP if it's not sold out.

Is that crazy?

Our other night for the party is looking like 12/1 (Thursday). Hey, I'm the one talking about 2 Christmas parties and 1 or 2 EMM's - I'm the last one to ask about what's crazy!

I don't think it's crazy because next time you go you'll have to pay for your 2-year-old. So you'd actually be saving money! Or something.

I tried to do an ADR cancel transfer today and they didn't get it:(
How is it possible that in the 3 seconds they were looking for it someone else stole it??? I felt bad.

That happened to me as well, a couple weeks ago, I dropped the reservation and the person picking it up tried to grab it but it was gone. I felt bad too.
