Trying to get a nice resort within Disney but as good a deal as possible. I know that this is one of the most expensive times to stay. I thought of renting a DVC timeshare, but that is not much cheaper. Any thoughts?

You'll have to wait for any deals when it gets much closer to your dates. I know for Easter week 2010 (both week before and after) there were deals because I got one. But they didn't release the discount until about two weeks before my trip. I will say I had a gift card promo before the other discount was released (which was a way better savings) and I think I got that deal about three or four months before.

Maybe book a AAA discounted room and then see what comes out.

I always say, book the room you can afford without the discount and then if one comes up, you can upgrade or just pocket the savings for other expenses with your trip.

Renting points is based on how many points it takes for the reservation and just as with cash reservations, points are very high during those peak times. I do know last minute deals come up with point rentals as well. I am not big on renting, I like to control my own reservation and I also think DVC is about the one bedrooms and they are twice the price to rent as a studio making them not a great deal over a moderate or deluxe let alone a value. But many swear by it.

I hate to say it, but you will have to be patient for the deals, for Easter 2012 it may be early 2012 before they come out if they come out at all.

I'd go ahead and make your reservation as soon as you can so you at least have something squared away.
