Df and I would like to include a dance with my kids (dd7 and ds 8) at our wedding. I just can't seem to find a good song. I am thinking of Edwin McCai's "Could Not Ask for More" but will be a blubbering mess by the time it is done! Any lighter alternatives?

How about Barry Whites, You're my first, my last, my everything. I wanted this song so bad for my wedding, but DH said it was too fast. Here are the lyrics.

The first, the last, my everything
And the answer to all my dreams
You're my sun, my moon, my guiding star
My kind of wonderful, that's what you are
I know there's only, only one like you
There's no way they could have made two
You're all I'm living for
Your love I'll keep for evermore
You're the first, your the last, my everything

And with you I've found so many things
A love so new only you could bring
Can't you see it's you
You make me feel this way
You're like a fresh morning dew on a brand new day
I see so many ways that I
Can love you till the day I die
You're my reality, yet I'm lost in a-a-a a dream
You're the first, the last, my everything

I know there's only, only one like you
There's no way they could have made two
Girl you're my reality
But I'm lost in a-a-a a dream
You're the first, you're the last, my everything

"We Are Family"

or (just because my dd4 was listening to it in the car this morning;) )

"We're All In This Together" from High School Musical. Could be cute if your kids are HSM fans.

At our wedding we danced with the girls, but not for a family dance song. I think that is a cute idea! We also had the dj introduce us as a family when we came in instead of just a couple.

We will be including some HSM! Dd is a huge fan.
Mady- I thought about that song and had to search for who sang it. At first I thought it seemed too long, but it isn't much longer than the Edwin McCain, plus it is less likely to make me cry!

I hope you dance - Lee Ann Womack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTQfERb9HVk

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

Personally James Taylor came to mind, with "You've Got a Friend". Yea...it will kill you but it is memorable and works on so many levels.

However if you feel your orginal song will work for you...go for it.:goodvibes You are going to cry anyway.

Slow

Billy Joel- "Just the Way You Are"
James Taylor- "You've Got a Friend"/ "Fire and Rain"
Bette Midler- "Wind Beneath My Wings"

Medium
Queen- "Best Friend"
Traveling Wilbury's- "Handle with Care"

Fast

Chic- "Good Times"
Sister Sledge- "We are Family"
Emotion- "Best of My Love"

It might be too fast for what you're looking for, but IMO, Forever Young's lyrics are perfect.

May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when youre far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As youd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart youll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
Ill be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
Im right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young ,forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young

Rod is good, sweet but no too sappy...may elicit tears but not full on bawling. Ugh, once I start...hopefully, I won't make that hideous contorted face I make when I try not to cry. Actually, it will all be downhill from the point we say a few words to the kids during the ceremony and give them their gifts.

How about Candle on the Water from Pete's dragon?

How about "You'll be in my Heart" from the Tarzan movie. I am considering that for my mother/son dance.

OOOH, I know, I know!!!

That song! From the Disneyland parade. You know, the happy "Aren't you glad you're here with your family" song????

"Welcome to our Family Time, Welcome to our Happy-to-Be Time!"

Well, it goes like that and I'm singing it as I type.

I don't know all the words and I don't know the title, but it isn't terribly sappy but it is fun and had a beat that kids like to jump to and bend their knees to!

ETA: I looked on the intergoogle. It is from Brother Bear.

There's nothing complicated about the way we live
We're all here for each other, happy to give
Proud of who we are
Humbled beneath the stars

We've everything we need
The moon, the sun
There is more than enough here for everyone
All we have we share
And all of us we care, so come on

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
We're happy giving and taking to the
friends we're making
There's nothing we won't do

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our happy to be time
This is our festival, you know and best of all
We're happy to share it all

There's a bond between us, nobody can explain
It's a celebration of life,
and seeing friends again
I'd be there for you
I know you'd be there for me too...
so come on

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
We're happy giving and taking to the
friends we're making
There's nothing we won't do

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our happy to be time
This is our festival, you know and best of all
We're happy to share it all

Remembering loved ones departed
Someone dear to your heart
Finding love, and planning a future
Telling stories and laughing with friends
Precious moments you'll never forget

This has to be the most beautiful
The most peaceful place I've ever been to
It's nothing like I've ever seen before
When I think of how far I've come,
I can't believe it...and yet I see it
In them I see family
I see the way we used to be

Come on...

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our brotherly time
We're happy giving and taking to the
friends we're making
There's nothing we won't do

Welcome to our family time
Welcome to our happy to be time
This is our festival, you know and best of all
We're happy to share it all

We're here to share it all

I agree with the Tarzan and Brother Bear songs, either one would work beautifully for a family dance.

how about a Mother's Prayer by Celine Dion

or

What a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong

I have to steal from the Jimmy Buffet thread: What about Delaney Talks to Statues?

Thanks for the suggestions! I found BBear on youtube. I am going to ask the kids what they think, too. Tarheel- I like What a WOnderful World, but I distinctly remember it playing at my first wedding!
