Wedding photos

The pictures as a whole look great. if you ever get a chance to do it again try not to take pictures against an open window with that level of light. That must have been a bear to measure the light. It also distracts from the subjects.

Really nice though. Were you moving around like that during the actual ceremony? Many ministers and churches would not allow you to move around.

I am loving those photo's! I think you did a wonderful job. I was put into a similaiar position in December having to photograph my BIL and SIL wedding. I wish I had one photo that looked as nice as yours.

Thank you, I would love to see some of what you shot if you have examples... I never realized how much work goes into wedding photography!!

I think you did a nice job! I like the pictures of the bride getting ready and the ones of the little details like the back of the brides dress. When a friend of mine got married last summer her photographer missed all those pictures!

Thanks, I loved all the detail shots my photographer got for my wedding. I really used her as an inspiration and an idea base.

Thank you for the advice, I will keep it in mind for next time (if there is one) and in general. :goodvibes In this specific situation, I was hamstrung by the location. The couple didn't want to go more then a few steps from the hotel for their pictures. That left the lobby with the giant window (it was about the size of a living room, facing the other way was the check in desk...) and the street outside.

Also, yes, I was allowed to move during the ceremony. I tried to stay out of the way as much as possible, even with permission to wander. The ceremony was in a basement room at the hotel - it was NOT the most picturesque location...

Just loved the photos; especially the one looking down at the newly married couple and the first one against the grey stone wall. The photos have a very upbeat feel to them and you captured so many great smiles and happy casual poses.

I did see some water or dust spots on a few in the last twenty or so; not sure what is on the lens or maybe it's just me.

Good work and I loved the Banff setting!

It was snowing! But I thought the same thing when I looked at them... Stupid snow could have looked more snow-like... (I assume you're talking about the outdoor pics. I don't see anything on the indoor ones, but maybe I've just looked at them for too long.)

You did a wonderful job!!!:goodvibes

I enjoyed watching all the photos on slideshow.

I hope your friend appreciates all the work you put into capturing her big day! You are a sweetie for doing it!:goodvibes

I liked a lot of the non-traditional pictures - the details, the "goofing around" pictures...they capture the personality of the people - as opposed to just documenting the occasion.

I second the advice about the window...in the future, instead of having the window behind either you or them, you could try with the light coming at them from the side. You can get some interesting highlighting that way. Also, if you can rope someone in to help you, you can balance out some of that light by using a reflector. (They're a great invention!)

I've never really worked with a reflector, but it's something I've wanted to try for a while. I've always been better creatively rather then technically and it's something I definitely hope to improve on. Thanks for the advice. :)

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I was out of town without internet access until today.

On the official Pentax site, they have a countdown and teaser photo of the "NEW K" with an official release date of May 20th. Anyone hear anything as to specs yet? Only internet chatter is pure speculation.

Maybe the price on a K20 is about to drop into my range! :cool1:

Nothing specific has been mentioned about specs on the new K-7(supposed name;) ) but there are lots of rumors about things on the Pentaxforums.com webpage. If you havent been there you really should stop in and become a member lots of good stuff in the marketplace as well as it being a good source for help on all things Pentax. I know I have bumpt into Groucho over there as well so there are a few of us overthere.

Let's hope it can live up to the hype/rumors. I'd certainly love to have a Pentax capable of shaming the Canonikons in my immediate family and on our Flickr photo field trips. :)

It's all rumors but the leading rumors are.......

Pro-spec body but smaller than the current K-m!
3" LCD, presumably 920k dots
Weather-sealed kit lens (finally!)
More "direct access" buttons - no need to use Fn key any more; flash, drive mode, etc all have direct buttons
"second gen" 14.6mp sensor with lower high ISO noise and even higher image quality (pretty impressive considering the stunning IQ of the current sensor)
Larger and brighter viewfinder than the K20D (again, impressive as the K20D's is considered very, very good for an APS-C sensor)
Video (of course)
Almost certainly full autofocus in Live View mode (LV even gets its own button) and probably more LV bells and whistles overall
Presumably faster focusing
Faster continuous shooting - 6 fps has been mentioned

Far-out rumor but who knows... how about a viewfinder that also can switch to an LCD - so full standard SLR optical or digital (for taking movies, reviewing your photos, etc) - who knows if this'll make it but Pentax does have a patent for such a setup. Sounds pretty great if there are no compromises on the optical side (apparently not based on the more concrete rumors)

Some early shots made it look like it was going to have old-fashioned metal triangle lugs for the camera strap but it's not so clear on more recent shots if this really is the case. It does have a somewhat more "retro" look.

The rumors are flying thick and fast; no doubt it will exceed in some areas and come short in others (there are always "pie in the sky" rumors of things you know won't make it), but the buzz is pretty strong. Hoya has promised fewer DSLR introductions and when they come, they will be serious improvements, not just minor tweaks.

Also, this is apparently going to slot in above the K20D, not be a replacement for it.

I'm going to hold off judgment until we get the final specs, but it certainly sounds pretty exciting. In the meantime, I'm planning on sticking with my K20D for a while; it still works great (better than new, actually) and I'll want to wait for prices to drop a little on the K-7.

All,

Thanks for the roundup on the rumors. Pretty much what I was able to find by digging on the web. Guess we all just have to wait for Wednsday. Would be nice to have a full-framer at the top of the K line, but that doesn't appear to be the case....yet.

If I hear of anything else, I'll post here. I would ask everyone else to do the same!

Thanks!!

I went to a friends wedding last weekend and took a few pictures... They hired a photographer, so I was just helping get shots that he may miss... I was working a little on some creative shots and then tried a little work in Photoshop trying to learn... Here are a few of the shots I came out with... Let me know what you think...

i like the muted colors on the cake cutting photo and the knife photo is a unique perspective:thumbsup2

the cake cutting picture is tilted slightly, you should level it out. Also the knife picture, I coulnd't tell what it was until someone mentioned what it was.

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Didn't actually get any during the wedding since I was a groomsman, but got some nice pictures from the rest of the weekend.

These pictures are very nice. The cake cutting one is probably my favorite.

Those are nice, od2.

Thank you...

Thanks! I tried something new and took the color photo, made it black and white, then brought color back to only the cake... Figured it looked good and really brought the attention to the cake... Turned out pretty good IMO... I figured I would try shooting the mirror in the knife after getting the idea on these boards... Then, I did the same thing bringing only color to the knife...
