Wedding photos

Not wanting to hijack the thread too much but for the Canadians on this thread... where's the best place to print oversized photos, ie photos larger than 8x10. I can still get those sizes at the grocery store photo lab but for those sizes, I think I'd prefer to pay a bit more and make sure they're done correctly by somebody who wasn't stacking the plums two weeks earlier.

I have used mpix before when I take pictures of my DD. I have used metallic paper and endura lustre paper. One of the PP suggested adoramapix.com. Which paper do I chose?

If you're using MPIX I would use the Endura paper, the reason being the metallic is more expensive, and you're trying to help your friends save money

just last week I sent an order of Senior pics in, and the difference in price just for the 4x6's that the mother wanted..was 60 dollars

plus you have no way of knowing if they will like the metallic paper..

Use an Epson printer. Cost per 8x10 print is about $2 for paper and ink. The pigment ink Epsons prints will last a very long time.

I can't tell you the last time I had someone else print my work.

adorama isn't bad but i thought mpix looked better plus i am always shocked at how fast they come, adorama i was "waiting" which i hate to do..course adorama color "corrected" and i didn't want them to which might have made the difference. i'd steer clear of the metalllic...unless you want to use it for just a few selected shots, i like it for some things but imo not as a all around paper

8x10s are only 1.99 from mpix, and it's so much easier to have their skilled professionals do the color correcting etc.

and less time consuming..

To each his own. I enjoy processing the image for printing.

tis true, I enjoy playing with my editing software, but for me when talking 500-800 photos for a job such as a wedding..., it's too much time spent at the computer, rather than behind the camera..

I'm so nervous. I told her I've never done anything like this before, told her you get one shot at wedding pictures and that I would not be offended in the least if she opted to go a different route, but she was set on me doing them.

I hope she knows what she's getting into, because I sure don't. It's outside at 5pm in a gazebo, and there's a small lake behind it, so the setting is beautiful. That should help. I took pictures at the rehersal last night, and found that a number of them were a little blurry because there wasn't enough light (I wasn't using the flash). That was about 630pm, so hopefully the 1 1/2 hour time difference will help (the ones I took at 530pm-6ish were ok).

Prayers would be helpful and welcomed!

Good Luck
You are very brave but if your friend was adamant that you take the pictures, she must know what she was doing.
I hope the light works out for you. I'm sure it will be a great day whatever happens. :goodvibes

Make a checklist of settings and go over it right before the ceremony....ISO, f-stop, shutter speed, white balance, etc. I've done one wedding and the checklist saved my butt, as I found the ISO had been set for a prior event. Bring extra batteries and an extra camera body if you can get one. Leave room for post-processing crops...and HAVE FUN!

Don't shoot a continuous series of shots while walking backwards at the same time. :rotfl:

I just did this for a friend 2 weeks ago. My friend is the professional photophapher but was in the wedding party. Her sister got married in Vegas, so they were having the reception here. She did bring her camera as well.. but wanted me to shoot the majority of the reception. Well, everything was going well... until the batteries on my new external flash started going dead and i didn't have any extra's. All of the ones outside turned out nice though. Good Luck!!

Any Pro that I have seen at a wedding always has a HUGH flash unit, perhaps even multiple flash guns. Now you know why.

Just wanted to say good luck! Keep shooting and there will be some great photos in the bunch. :lovestruc

Might I recommend checking out other wedding photog's websites for ideas of shots? Root photography in Florida (I can't post links, but I'm sure you can google them and others) is one of my favorites. Or check out the weddings section of this board! :bride:

Thanks, ya'll! I'm just back home. ZZZZZZZZZZZZz. I'm so tired! I'm waiting while my camera downloads the 441 pictures I took :) . Haven't gotten to look at anything yet... I'll look through them in the morning.

I appreciate everyone's encouragement. It was fun to do and not as bad as I thought. Hope there are some good ones!

I got roped into photographing the weddings of two of my sister's friends. (After I stressed to them that I was in no way a professional photographer and that they were taking a HUGE chance with me!)

Here are some of my shots; cc appreciated :)

You're a brave soul.

Two questions: did you shoot in RAW or JPEG, and were the brides happy with them?

#2 I would color balance
#6 I would lighten a little so you can see a little of the faces..
