Wedding Parasols

I had the thought of getting a parasol for myself for my wedding in January (in Puerto Rico), we are planning on getting most of the family shots done before the ceremony and I get over heated pretty quickly. However, I told my mom about the idea and she loves it and thought I should get one for my grandmother as well. So now I was thinking, would everyone else be upset if my grandmother had one and they didn't so then I was thinking I could get them for the moms and grandmother and paper fans for everyone, or I could just get them for the ladies. I was just wondering how it would look and if I really wanted them as part of the ceremony. I just don't want it to look like everyone is expecting rain :rotfl: But I am not really using flowers, or decor for the ceremony so a bit of extra color may be nice. I think I'm a bit lost

I should mention that I am not having a bridal party and we will have less than 30 people at the wedding. (including DFi and I)

Any thoughts? Also does anyone have pictures, I did find some online that were cute. I liked the rice parasols from lunabazaar.com in Fuschia and Turquoise.

Parasols would be really cute! They had them at a wedding I went to last month, and they definitely did not conjure thoughts of rain, being made of paper and all... :lmao:

DISer Wazzo used them at her wedding on Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have pictures of that soon.

Also, the bridesmaids at DISer Monana's wedding in Epcot's Japan Pavilion had them:

And I believe FigmentFan814 used them at her wedding too:

I found one wedding when I was googling and all the guest had what looked like more of an umbrella then a parasol and they were all different colors, it was pretty funny looking because they all looked like they were sitting just waiting for rain, thus sparking my concern

Monana's pictures are gorgeous! And I knew FigmentFan814 used them, I just could not find the link. Thank you for posting them!!

The more pictures I find the more I like the idea. Now I just have to decide if I want to get them for all the guests, or myself and the moms and grandma, it could replace the bouquets for them, but I don't think I want them to walk down the aisle with them :confused3

Some of the photos of my Moms friends weddings back 40 years ago, are of them with umberellas on cloudfree days. Why, because if the wedding was outdoors the believed the unberellas warded off bad luck. I am not sure if her friends came from Ireland but I know the Irish think rain is lucky.

The paper ones are pretty with the sun coming through them. I have also seen pretty lace parasols.

That's neat that there is a story behind umbrellas at weddings, I love that. It is the only reason I am doing a cake cutting!

I am Irish and yes, I do believe that rain on your wedding day is good luck, I just hope it doesn't rain on my wedding day since it's outside

The more I look at the parasols the more I like them, I saw a photo where it had a shadow of the couple kissing on the other side of the parasol, it was adorable.

I gave out parasols to my guests at my wedding. I thought they added a lot of color. Also, our photographer took some great shots of my bridesmaids and me with the parasols. Here are some of them...
