We ve just been reading over our contract together & have come a cross one part thats worrying us.

It states that

" a copy of the marriage license must be sent to your wedding coordinator prior to the wedding date"

We only arrive in Orlando 2 full days before our wedding day, i always thought this was something you just had to hand over to your minister on your wedding day. Not something that you had to sort out in advance for your wp to see.

Am very worried on how we can obtain this & give a copy to our wp before our wedding day. We would only therefore be able to give this 1 day before our wedding to our wp :confused3 :confused3

How has everyone else got a round this?? I had never realised this was their policy

Our Officiant Rev. Knox said that we could have it sent to him and there was a link on his website that said how to get hold of the marrage licence.

I'm not sure if all the Officiants do this or if the other Disney brides have had theirs sent to the Officiant but i feel better sending it to him. I'd ask your Officiants if thats ok.

Hope that helps :thumbsup2

Our problem is that we cant obtain our wedding license until 2 days before our wedding as thats when we arrive in Orlando. We are from UK so i ve no clue how we re suppose to get this for our WP to have copy of before our wedding day

You can apply for a marriage licence by post. You fill out all the form 60 days before and then the court house sends it to either your officiant or your wedding coordinator. We are doing this, because we arrive on a Friday and the court house isn't open on the week-end. Plus our Officiant suggested doing it by post as it makes it easier for UK Brides. This is what we are doing. Its the same price and were going to send it recorded delivery. :thumbsup2

My main concern sending anything recorded etc is that i ve read a few "horror stories" from other UK brides when it comes to sending contracts back. That they ve gotten lost in the post or that they ve been returned weeks later stating no such address could be found. Think someone said that their letter ended up in Finland. This makes me really panic especially when you re sending off for something as important as a license.

Id so much rather just go and get it in person, i know i ve read a few tr's where couples have picked up their licenses when arriving in Orlando so i ve always presumed there was no rush to get it. That the only person that needed it was your minister on your wedding day.

Does your minister also need this before the wedding day??

Gees im getting so confused :confused3 :confused3

Were do it through UPS, as they seem to be quite good. My wedding dress came from the US that way. I will contact the court to see if they have received my paperwork a few weeks after i've sent it to check that its got there. So that if it hasn't then i can re-sent it and i have plenty of time to do it.

I will also let my Officiant know what i've done and to contact me as soon as he receives the licence. He's emailed straight back when i've emailed him before. He doesn't need it til the day, but he said that i can have it sent to him, as the court doesn't send the licence back to you in the UK through the post, but to your 'wedding coordinator'.

I'd rather not have to get off my flight on the Friday and have to drive straight to the court house. So it easier for me.

Im just so confused, i remember reading Summer Caitlins TR & seeing her & Steven on their first day in Orlando going to get their license. I think they were then married 2 or so days later. This was always gonna be our plan. We arrive in Orlando on a sunday, we was then on Monday morning going to get our license. We re getting married on the wednesday.

For Summer & Steven to be able to do this they could nt of given their WP a copy of the license so am hoping the whole point of:

" a copy of the marriage license must be sent to your wedding coordinator prior to the wedding date"

is no longer valid just like the section in the contract that states paying Disney extra money for using outside photography/videography

They sure do make the contract confusing

I'd email your Disney wedding planner and ask them if you can give the licence to the Officiant on the wedding day as your coming from the Uk and haven't got much time to take it to them. I'm sure it would be ok.

Then you could ask your Officiant if it would be ok with him/her if you gave it to them just before the wedding. They must get this all the time as there are so many brides marry in Disney from all different places.

Its just another thing for us all to worry about. Lol. :duck:

We ve not got a WP as of yet so will have to wait till we get assigned one. We re faxing our contract over on Monday morning so we re getting there. I just wish i had a better idea of this whole license issue, i like to plan everything well so i know exactly what we need to do & this is just very confusing. We ve gone with Rev Knox as well but because we ve still got just under a year we ve not had much contact so far. Do you have any idea on whether he would be happy to just get the license on the morning of the wedding?

Thanks for all of your advice :cutie:

I'm sure he would be fine with it. If you go to his website and email him he should get back to you real quick. He's never taken longer than two days to get back to us and weve emailed him loads of questions.

Once you've been assigned a planner you will get a direct link to them. I asked for an email address too as i was from the UK. I sent them a list of about 10 questions and they answered every single one. Lol. It was easier for me to do it by email.:rotfl2:

We got our license by mail from Brevard County. Our wedding is in 18 days and our WP has not asked for it/nor our officiant. We are bringing it to our officiant the morning of the wedding---

When we went for our planning session, our planner told us that she just needed to know who had the important things - the rings and the wedding license - but that she didn't need to see the license.

We're getting ours through the mail: it seems like a simple process and easy enough to complete if one allows enough time.

I wouldn't worry too much about this! :goodvibes

We only got ours once we arrived in Orlando. . It could have changed as this is over a year now. :confused3 Best to check with Disney.....The Courthouse are very helpful, so they may be able to assist too. We spoke to them a few times before we went to make sure we had everything and nothing had changed http://orangeclerk.orangecountyfl.net/service/marriage.shtml
The Reverend needed our licence on the day of the wedding, my husband gave him this before the ceremony.

yeah that is what we did....give it to the officiant the day of the wedding so he can sign it..your planner doesn't need it.

Just wanted to echo what some of the other folks are saying here: I don't think there's any cause for worry. My DF and I are in the same boat; we're not coming from the UK (we're coming from NYC, which sometimes feels like a different country), and we'll have to do some juggling regarding the marriage license as well.

I don't think your WP will fuss over this detail at all. Disney just wants to make sure they're not party to some kind of illegal marriage ceremony. I suspect the clause in question was penned by their lawyers more than anyone else.

We got our marriage license through Brevard County via mail as well.
This is the link to the Mail Away Form and Instructions...

This was the cheapest option in Florida (only $95, $65 if you've done a marriage prep course, which Rev. Knox offers on his website) and DH and I did not want to spend any part of our trip in the County Clerk's Office waiting for anything.

The process was very very simple and didn't need to be started until a little before 60 days before our wedding date. And you can start the process by faxing or emailing the initial request form.

These are all of the steps we took...
- We faxed the initial marriage license request form on Feb 28, 2008
- The County Clerk mailed the marriage license back to us within 10 days
- We filled it out, signed it, got it notorized and sent it back via UPS with copies of our ID's right away.
- The County Clerk mailed the stamped marriage license back to us. We received it on April 5th.
- When we got married on May 5th, our planner Celeste did not ask to see it, but during our rehearsal the day before, she did ask if we had it. I actually forgot about it, but Celeste found it and gave it to Rev. Knox only 15 minutes before the ceremony. That was the first time he asked for it. (You really don't have to worry about it. Just make sure you bring it with you to florida and that you give it to your planner or Rev. Knox on the day of the wedding. The only reason to give it to the planner is so that you don't have to worry about it. )
- Our MOH and BM signed as witnesses, Rev Knox took it with him, filed it with the County Clerk in Brevard.
- The County Clerk sent it back to us within 10 days after the wedding.

Hope that helps
Nikki
