Wedding Invitations

My dauthter is getting married next year. I am thinking about making her wedding invitations and was wondering if anyone had ever made them before.

How does the cost compare to bought invitations?

Is the amount of time worth it?

I have made invitations for a few events and the cost came out considerable cheaper, but the time invested was huge. I will be doing this again next year, but I like to personal touch.

I know what you mean about the personal touch.

I made my Christmas cards last year about 100 but never anything like a wedding invitations. With the extra envelopes I wonder if it is even doable

I think it is doable but I think you also need to cut corders where you can, and simplify everything. If you buy ready-made blank cards and enveleopes that would save time. You also need to look for things that are not too expensive to buy in bulk, and not too fiddly to apply. You can print off the paper inserts with all the details so its only the outers to worry about.

We made just about everything for my wedding. It was time consuming but fun! I will take a picture of the invitation tomarrow and post it.

I did all of the paper goods for my wedding. It really is a time investment, so make sure you have the time. You will save a bit of money if you have the tools already. I scrapbooked so I had a lot of the tools that helped make it a lot easier.

I scrapbook also so I do have a lot of stuff. I don't mind the time. I hope I can make them look nice.

You should also check out the Wedding & Honeymoon boards - I think there is a sticky thread of all the invites made/used to get some ideas. Also, http://www.paperzone.com/ has some good examples and if there is one (or similar local), you can buy in bulk. The nice thing about wedding invites is that simple is really in fashion now. That and you can just print away once you have got the template done. HTH

I made my own wedding announcements. Cheaper than others ... not necessarily. But everyone has called and commented on how beautiful they were. I spent about $1.50 per invitation (I bought the Crane imprintables - they were the nicest blanks I could find) but they look like $8 announcements with a huge embossed rampart lion. I was so happy with my decision to make them myself.

I made my own wedding invitations (and programs and place cards, etc). I never priced out the difference because it was never an option for me to buy them - I never saw anything I even remotely liked. That was over 5 years ago, and I would probably do them differently now because I have about a zillion more tools and supplies, but they were pretty basic and simple. I did have a small wedding - around 75 guests, I can't remember exactly how many invitations that worked out to be. The theme for the wedding was seashells, and I found a seashell print vellum that I printed the words for the invitation on, then stamped 4 seashells in navy and silver on each corner of cardstock and tied the two together with ribbon. The only kink in the plan was I could not tie a bow to save my life, so one of my bridesmaids had to tie them all! At the time, there was a local stationery store that had envelopes in bulk fairly cheap and I printed all the reply cards, return envelopes and outer envelopes myself on my regular printer. I was definitely glad I did it myself because it could be just as I wanted it to be.

This has already been mounted in my scrapbook so it’s kind of hard to get the full effect, but here’s a picture:

Wow those are beautiful. Great job!

She is having a Cinderella wedding. We are making most of the decorations so I love the handmade touch on the invitations.
