Next month my wonderful DS is getting married. I've been busy on you tube listening to songs because I'm supposed to be coming up with a list of potential songs for the Groom/Mom dance. Any suggestions????? I eloped (both times LOL) so I'm having a real tough time coming up with all the wedding protocal stuff. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!!!

DD is getting married next year and I've been thinking of "In My Life" by the Beatles.
PS I'm a widow and we're still trying to decide if doing this will cause a major meltdown for the both of us. We hit the ladies room at every wedding we go to while the bride and her dad do their dance.

My DS is getting married in May and wants to surprise me with the song. :sad2:

If the DJ starts spinning "Baby Got Back" my DIL will be married and widowed on the same day.

Two of my favorites are I Hope You Dance by LeAnne Womack and My Wish by Rascal Flatts. Both make great mother/son songs.

My mom and my brother danced to "You and Me Against the World" by Helen Reddy. To this day I cannot listen to that song without crying.

ask on the Weddings and Honeymoons board as they are probably reallyu 'switched on' to this sort of thing as prospective brides tend to eat sleep breathe and sweat wedding details.

Good idea!!!! And thanks for all the suggestions. I've been listening to mushy songs all morning. LOL

Depending on how old your son is.......he may or may not appreciate Shinedown/skynard covers

Shinedown does an AWESOME cover of Lynard Skynard's "Simple Man" ( I think it was origionally a skynard song)

Here are the lyrics:

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.

(Chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(Chorus)

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

The tempo is slow, appropriate for a slow dance. It's done acoustically, so there's no rock-like beat. And it's not that old (the newer version) so it hasn't been used over and over like the classics (but that's why they're classica huh?). The first time I heard this song, I pulled over and bawled my eyes out....it really moved me, so maybe I'm partial. See if you can find a sample online and listen to it.

Jagefen-

I think this would be the perfect song. Thank you so much. I'm bumping it to the top of my list.

At our wedding the father/bride dance and mother/groom dance were simultaneous. We used "Through The Years" by Kenny Rogers.

Not a problem...glad to be a help! I know this was the part that I stressed about when I got married!!! We ended up using "Father's Eyes" by Eric Clapton for the father /daughter dance (going with the not used too often logic). My hubby, on the other hand, picked "Momma" by Boys II Men....ugh...especially for our area (Philly, where they're from)...it is used ALL THE TIME!!!!

I love this Celine Dion song for the mother/son dance. My boys are only 10 and 5 and this is what I would like. I cry everytime I hear it.

I lost my dad 3 years before my wedding so my little brother walked me down the aisle and dance with me. I cried but I am glad I dance too. I too couldnt sit through the Father/Daughter dances for the longest time. I am a little better now!

For all those times you stood by me
For all the truth that you made me see
For all the joy you brought to my life
For all the wrong that you made right
For every dream you made come true
For all the love I found in you
I'll be forever thankful baby
You're the one who held me up
Never let me fall
You're the one who saw me through through it all

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You gave me wings and made me fly
You touched my hand I could touch the sky
I lost my faith, you gave it back to me
You said no star was out of reach
You stood by me and I stood tall
I had your love I had it all
I'm grateful for each day you gave me
Maybe I don't know that much
But I know this much is true
I was blessed because I was loved by you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

 GL I just mentioned in my post above that my dad died 3 years before I got married. I made it through the dance at the wedding(my poor brother he was 16 he had no clue what to do with me while I was crying, so that helped me pull it together) and I do finally make it through some of the Father/Daughter dances. I use to be in the bathroom a lot now I just squeeze DH's hand until he has my fingerprints there:rotfl: but I make it through. It is hard.

My mom danced to Times of Your Life by Paul Anka with my brother and it was beautiful. My sister and I picked the same song to dance to with our dad....The Way You Look Tonight (acutally we let our dad choose and he really loved the song so my sister was a good sport and went along with it even though I had gotten married first and already used the song....but it meant alot to our dad).

DH and his mom danced to "Baby Mine" from Dumbo - not a dry eye in the house after that one! My dad and I danced to "Through the Years"

Jenny:)

I've always loved "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon. But I'm a huge fan of his, so I'm pretty biased. ;)

I was thinking of 'Baby Mine' before DS said he wanted to surprise me. Maybe that's the song he'll pick.

We used "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. We had a lot of people tell us that the song was wonderful for that dance.
