Wedding Favors?

Ok, I am a big believer in the "no one remembers wedding favors" mantra.

I think I've thrown away most of the wedding favors I've received -- a zillion small picture frames, crummy bottles of wine you wouldn't serve unexpected guests, two or four small pieces of candy, candles that don't burn evenly...

I was seriously thinking of not doing favors at all, or just doing lottery tickets.

But, I thought I'd ask if anyone had any creative wedding favor ideas, or at least received a wedding favor they didn't throw away?

Thanks!

This isn't really a favor per se, but instead of having matchbooks with the couples' name and date, we had golf tees.

I'm in the same camp as you. I only have one wedding favor that I use frequently....a screwdriver. The groom managed a hardware store, and it was engraved with their names, the wedding date, and their bridal dance song. I thought it was a clever idea. Everything else I've ever gotten has gone straight to the trash.

Heh heh, we were JUST talking about the same thing! We were thinking of buring cds with the music that we're going to play at our reception...but we may not do any at all. It's an added expense and I've always thrown away wedding favors myself.

At a wedding last October, they had a cute little gift wrapped personalixed box between each place setting (for us - as a couple). It was a really nice wine bottle stopper. I imagine that it was one per couple - per family - or per single invited guest. I really like it & we use it!

I guess gone are the days when you wrapped almonds in tulle and tied it with ribbon with the bride & groom names and the date!

We had yankee candles for wedding favors, they went over really big.

My nephew and his wife did this. They had their picture on the outside. I thought it was a novel idea -- however, in all honestly, I only listened to it once. Their choice of music was not my choice of music. But, I still have it. ;)

I'd love to get a lottery ticket favor! The only favors I've gotten were mini picture frames or candy covered almonds. The frames got tossed over time and the almonds got eaten.

There are some girls I know that are giving $10 gifts like coaster sets or wine bottle openers. I'd definately keep those. I'm thinking of giving giant cookies in the shape of a wedding cake because most of my family/friends have a sweet tooth.

I am a banquet server, and I've seen some cute wedding favors. Some were already mentioned. Whether or not the people kept them, I don't know.

-personalized CD's-love these because it gives a special touch, usually the couple will give the staff some, usually a very good mix of songs, with a picture of the couple on the cover
-wine stoppers-to me, a very practical gift
-donations-one wedding a couple had made donations to some charity in lieu of giving out gifts. They (or us actually) put a card stating the charity at each place setting
-chocolates-usually in a personalized box. Who doesn't love chocolate?
-ornaments-obviously a holiday time wedding. Again, they were personalized, but went very well for the whole theme of the wedding.

AlexandNessa....The lottery ticket thing sounds like a good idea! I never thought of that. I bet the scratch-off tickets would go over good.

Oops, that was my back up plan

I agree with the OP. Wedding favors are a waste. That's why we have decided to donate the money we would have spent on them to a charity or organization of our choice. We haven't decided which one yet. We will mention that we have done that at the supper or perhaps print up a little card or something.

Because we're getting married in Vegas, and DFi and I met at a casino, we're doing playing cards that are personlized with the names/date. At least they're functional.

DFi actually wanted to do loaded dice.... ;)

The only 2 that I ever really used were personalized matchbooks
and a christmas ornament I rec'd at a holiday wedding. :flower:

I like the donation idea....
not sure about lottery tix....but if you do it and anyone wins big money I hope they share it with you!! :cool1:

I like the little frames for place card holders - one per couple. Little silver frames to tell you what table # and then you can take them home. You could probably get them at the dollar store for $1 for 1or 2.

I like the idea of naming tables in a theme and then the favors for each table could follow that theme. depends how much you want to spend. I'd love to get lotion from bath & body works

For my wedding I baked mini blueberry muffins and tied them up in tulle with a bow. I'm all for wedding favors since I have a small business making them. Mainly I deal with personalized candy bar wrappers but have done bubble bottles, boxed chocolates and mintbooks. I love the lottery ticket idea though. It's cheap too!

Oh I forgot about the candy bars with the personalized wrappers. Those are so great!

I should be taking notes on this stuff :scratchin

We did personalized boxes of Godiva Chocolates. They went over VERY well!!!!

One of my brother's friends did personalized packets of flower seeds. I don't remember what kind of flowers they were, but I thought it was a really unique idea, and one that wouldn't take too much effort to use.
