Hi everyone!

I was trying to save up to go to my Planning Session next month with my MOH but due to me being on a tight budget that's not going to happen anymore :sad2: So I'm hoping for some opinions on wedding cake flavors and fillings since I won't be able to taste any and I have no idea which two to pick.

As of now I'm thinking of the Chocolate cake w/ white chocolate mousse, the Red Velvet w/ cream cheese, or the Yellow cake w/ bavarian cream & fresh strawberries. Other fillings I'm sure I'd like would be the peanut butter cup and maybe the mocha mousse but not sure if my guests would like those fillings. Has anyone had any of these as their wedding cake? All opinions will be highly appreciated. :goodvibes

all of the above would taste marvelous! we had almond cake with alternating chocolate buttercream and raspberry mousse, and a grooms cake with red velvet and i think the amaretto filling? anyway, it was great and we tasted all of those i am sure and everything was just great!

you can absolutely do this without doing a PS in person, but what about just you going? it so much fun!

good luck!:thumbsup2

I'm not going to advise you on flavors, but how many people are you having? I'm only having about 30ish guests and my cake is made to serve 60, so I made the bottom layer a "safe" choice of lemon cake with raspberry filling...I know most of my guests will like that. Then the middle, smaller layer will be chocolate with the pb filling. I'm not sure if everyone will like that.

Since my cake is bigger than needed, they will cut a larger slice of lemon and a smaller slice of chocolate and put both on each plate. If you have a smallish guest list that should work well for you too.

Hey!

Honestly, the cake tasting at the Planning Session was disgusting! I hated all of the flavors, I don't know if they were old or if I was just nervous, but none tasted too great.

We decided to go with red velvet & buttercream for the bottom tier of the cake and chocolate & peanut butter (didn't try that at the P.S.) for the grooms cake. Both tasted absolutely amazing on the wedding day and the left overs were just as good! Everybody really loved the chocolate cake especially. Our top tier was almond & raspberry cream, they reversed it on accident, we wanted that one served at the wedding, but now it's sitting in our freezer, so I'm not sure how it tastes.

I think anything you pick will be fantastic. I know that's not much help, but when it comes down to it, people wont be focusing too much on the cake flavors, they'll be so overwhelmed by how beautiful and amazing everything is, they probably wont even think twice about what flavor your cake is. (Does that sound rude? I'm not trying to be rude, but sometimes written word doesn't translate as well as you'd like ).

Anyway, good luck with choosing! There's so many different combinations. I was nervous about the chocolate cake because we didn't taste it, but it was so good. It almost tasted like a Funny bone (the delicious chocolate snack cake!). :)

at my PS I REALLY did not like the bavarian cream, i thought it was a bit of a funny colour too. The cake was yummy though :) I didnt get to try the red velvet cake which was a shame, as we would probably have picked that. MY fave is the tropical mousse - yummy!

We went for chocolate cake with raspberry mousse, yellow cake with tropical mousse, and almond cake with amaretto mousse.

We had the chocolate cake and white chocolate mousse it was really nice but rather sickly. We also had marble cake and milk chocolate mousse which was amazing - best cake ever! Everyone had multiple pieces of the cake!

We have top layer Marble cake / Baileys mouse, 2nd layer Almond cake / Amaretto mouse, bottome layer Choc. cake / Raspberry mouse. I dont like cake so it was all DF's choice!:thumbsup2

We did top layer chocolate cake with chcoc ganache and raspberry jam, middle layer almond cake with butter cream and raspberry jam and bottom layer choc with choc mousse. It was all excellent! :cake:

My cake was marble with choc. mousse. We are still talking about how great it was. And we never did a taste test. I just picked what I liked.

We had red velvet and cream cheese frosting as our bottom layer. It was delish!

The top layer was marble cake and raspberry mousse. That was a huge hit, I was shocked at how many people liked it. We loved it at the planning session but worried that people wouldn't like it.

We had Lemon cake with Cream Cheese frosting as our bottom layer and everybody LOVED it!!!! It was so good, seriously delicious.

Our top layer that we took home with us was almond cake with amaretto mouse and it was also very, very good.

My preference was the Lemon with cream cheese though!

I have heard nothing but great reviews of everybody's cake flavors so I'm sure anyone you pick will be amazing! :goodvibes

Jules---I am so glad you wrote that! I remember walking away from the cake tasting thinking "eww. There are so many places in orlando with better tasting cakes!" Glad to know it must just be for the tasting!

As for the cake layers we will be having:
Bottom layer: Chocolate cake with mint chocolate mousse filling (my fav, DF doesn't like)
2nd layer: Almond cake with amaretto mousse filling(DF's fav, I don't like)
3rd layer: chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling(my parents' choice)
top layer: Chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling(both DF and I love this flavor. We are not saving this for our 1st anniversary. We live right behind the MK, so we are just going to have the GF make us the top layer again for our 1st anniversary and we will be eating this top layer for our breakfast the next morning!)

I hope it's good!

I would pick the flavors that you like the most.

We had:
red velvet with buttercream - I'm not a fan of it with cream cheese frosting; this was really good and we both loved it. But until recently Red Velvet was not very popular where we live, so not sure how "authentic" it is.

almond with amaretto - omg this was sooo good, but DH didn't like it. Tasted like an italian cookie to me, I wish I ate more of it.

marble with strawberries and bavarian cream - the bavarian cream is kind of bland, not necessarily a bad thing when you're going for a strawberries and cream type taste, but I didn't like this as much as the others. I felt like this was good but the others were great.
