Sorry this took so long to post. Ive got a lengthy excuse about how bad work has been since I got back, but you dont want to hear that. You just want to hear about our trip. Right?
CAST: Me (47) and DH (43). He hasnt been to Orlando with me since 2001. So Ive spent a few years going solo.
SHOW: I woke up in our room at the USs PBH so excited to be going to WDW. But I was a little worried because I thought the BCV might be a little let down after the PBH. Fortunately (or unfortunately) my DH had been too sick with a bad cold to really appreciate the PBH.
My DH held off leaving the hotel as long as possible because he didnt want to get stuck without a room again. So we left at 10:30 AM after having leisurely breakfast at the Trattatoria. They didnt have a buffet but I thought the potatoes and the omelet were really good. And we had lots of OJ. As if Vitamin C was going to do any good now.
I left to check out while my DH waited in the room for the bellboy. I was unable to check out on the TV. We all met up in the lobby and our car was outside waiting for us. The GPS (which we nicknamed Shirley) in our Hertz rental car was having trouble locating a satellite so we were on our own for a little bit. My DH finally turned it off and on and that fixed it. Shirley tried to have us turn too soon so we turned her off and just followed the very helpful Disney signs to the BCV. My DH took care of the bellboy and then he self-parked while I tried to check-in. I was a little worried but I was able to check-in with just my Annual Pass voucher instead of the real thing. The woman at the reception desk said our room was almost ready and we should check back in ½ hour.
We stopped to talk to Art, the BC greeter. We told him he was famous because we had seen him on TV. We asked him what we should do with half an hour of free time. He suggested Beaches and Cream. My husband asked about the Kitchen Sink. Art thought they were free if you ate the whole thing. I hadnt heard that one before but Im unlikely to test Arts theory.
We ended up sitting out on the beach but it got a little hot so we sat in some shady rocking chairs by the (shut-down) Stormalong Bay pool. I could have stayed there all day but it was time to go check on our room.
The same woman at the front desk said that it was going to be another ½ hour. So we did go to Beaches and Cream. My DH got a malt and I got a root beer float. Both were very good. We found more shady rocking chairs and really relaxed.
Then back to the front desk and the room was still not ready. She said she was going to go check it herself if it wasnt ready soon. So we sat in the lobby in line of sight of her. She came out a couple of times to tell us why it wasnt ready yet (they had shampooed the carpet and were waiting for it to dry). We decided to wander a bit and ended up in the Atlantic Wear and Wardrobe Emporium store. The front desk CM found us and told us our room was ready. I thought that was so nice that she went to the trouble to track us down.
For some reason she had to give us new room keys. Then I started to worry about my DHs park hopper which was on his room key. I made a mental note to make sure to check it when I activated my annual pass at Guest Relations.
My DH and I both loved our BCV room at first sight. He actually said WOW when we walked in and insisted on videotaping it before it got messy. It was a one bedroom suite but it was a handicap room so the bathroom was a little different configuration than what I was expecting. The toilet was in the same room with the shower and the shower was a walk-in that was level with the bathroom floor. And there was also a fold-down bench in the shower.
My DH was holding up pretty well despite his really bad cold so we decided to walk to Epcot. At the International Gateway Guest Relations, I activated my annual pass and we double-checked his park hopper. Everything was in order. The CM even made a comment about our last name. Hardly anyone knows the historical significance so we were both impressed.
We walked to SE but it was closed. I was panicked because it is one of our favorites and I know its probably not long for this world. But the CM said that they were having a little problem and it would re-open soon.
My DH asked if we could sit down (oh-oh, hes fading) for a minute. I eventually talked him into seeing Figment for the first time. He argued with me that hed already seen it once. But I knew better. Afterwards he agreed that hed never seen it before and thought it was cute but not something hed do again.
We rode SE. It is so sad to see the AT&T part all shut down. What a yucky way to exit the ride. My DH thinks its the best audio-animatronics in WDW but he also thinks its getting long in the tooth.
By then my DH really needed to go back to the room to rest. We stopped at Ice Station Cool on the way out of the park. I am so nice. Hes never been there before and I told him not to try the Beverly.
Once we got back to the room, my DH crashes and I unpack very quietly. I also figured out how to hook up the camcorder to the TV in the living room and I watched some of our video from our weekend stay on the beach in Melbourne. Then I caught up on my journal. I really enjoyed having that dining table in the kitchen to work on.
Our room overlooked the villa pool and it was really busy and loud. I guess it is normally the quiet pool when Stormalong Bay is open.
It was soon 4:30 PM and time to wake up my DH to go to our PS at California Grill. We both took our time getting ready. Then we drove to the TTC. I was so excited to use my annual pass for free parking but the attendant just waved us in without stopping us. I guess when its that late in the day they dont care.
Then we took the resort monorail to the Contemporary. My DH loves the monorail so he thought this was a good excuse to park at the TTC instead of the Contemporary. But it made us a little bit later and we were already running late. When we finally got to the Contemporary I couldnt find any signs for the California Grill so I asked the guy at the DVC desk. He said to go to the 14th floor. We got on the elevator and neither the 14th nor the 15th floor elevator buttons would light up. But it took us to the 14th floor anyway where a concierge told us to go back to the 2nd floor. Ahhhh, it clearly says on the elevator buttons 2nd floor = California Grill check-in. By the time we got to the desk, it was 6:15 PM and we were supposed to be there at 6:00 PM. We were told to wait and we would be escorted up to the restaurant.
When we finally got upstairs, they sat us back in the room on the opposite side from the Magic Kingdom. And the room was full of kids. This was not turning out to be the romantic dinner I was hoping for. And my DH didnt look very well. He didnt have anything to drink and wanted to skip the first course. So we both just ordered an entrée. It came so fast that we thought it was a mistake. In fact, it arrived two seconds after they brought us our bread. My pumpkin lasagna was very good and my DH said his beef filet was good too. The dessert was excellent but it looks like it is no longer on the menu (I just checked Debs site). We were all done and paid for by the time the 7:00 PM Wishes started. So we stopped on the way out to watch. I felt pretty weird leaning over someone elses dinner to watch the fireworks. But my DH liked it enough that we stayed for the whole show.
When we got back to the BCV, my DH just crashed. And he also decided that there was no way he could make tomorrows 8:00 AM PS at the Crystal Palace. I didnt say anything but I was so disappointed. I never feel comfortable at character meals by myself and was hoping to experience Main Street before the park opened.
Weve been together for over 20 years and I have never seen my DH this sick for this long before. I was really starting to worry that he was going to be sick the rest of the vacation. And maybe worrying about him is what got me sick too.
