website for editing digital photos !!

Hi there...
I was reading a few threads out there on digital photos but decided to start this one as I did not want to take away the topic...

Are there any FREE software out there that I can use to edit my digital photos before I print them ? eg. add borders, colors, enhance...., creative ideas to enhance the pic etc...

hubby is weary about installing free software as he does not know how it will affect the PC ??

Irfanview (www.irfanview.com) does most all that you've said. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is borders but I could swear that I've seen tutorials on doing it. It has colors adjustments, a bunch of built-in plug-ins, and can use Photoshop plugins as well if you download the Irfanview plug-ins (another free but separate download.)

Gimp has more actual manipulation tools, for drawing, etc. By and large, Irfanview works on the entire image at once - you can crop, resize, add text anywhere, etc, but ultimately it's an image viewer on steroids. Gimp is a full-blown Photoshop-type editor.

Both are reputable free software and won't install any extra junk on your PC. Irfanview does offer an option to install Google Desktop if I remember right, but it's clearly marked during setup and easy to not install. Gimp is open-source so there should be no issues there.
