Well my trip is right around the corner.

I have realized that I havent got the slightest idea what to pack! I have been looking at the weather channel and it seems like the weather just yo-yos between good and chilly. What would you suggest to pack?

We are going in January (CAN'T WAIT!!!) and running into the same thing. I also PROMISED myself I am going to pack light - as it is just my daughter and I and no strong men around. hahaha.
I have decided on lightweight pants/jeans - 2 pairs each, 3 pairs of shorts each, and 2-3 pairs of capris for my daughter. I am going to bring all short sleeve tops (prob 5 each) with 1 cardigan for my daughter, and a sweat jacket or polar fleece sweater each. I plan to just do some laundry at the hotel and keep my packing very light. I was going to pack her raincoat, but decided to just get some dollar store ponchos, as we will need them for the wet rides anyway!

typically the sun is hot (if it comes out of the clouds) in the daytime and very chilly in the evenings. the drop in temp is significant at night. you should visit one of our local news website. they have the 5 day forecast. kcal9.com or nbc4la.com should help.

We were there last week when it rained and it was down right chilly. Wore sweatshirts, jackets, fleece tops, jeans. Make sure you bring your ponchos and gloves. I forgot mine and had to buy some at DL.

BTW I'm used to temperatures in the 30's at home but I was cold down in DL. I would say it is iffy for shorts, but who knows?

hmm
shoot.. i was wishing for warmth but really i dont care as long as its a vacation...! Thanks!

it will be in the mid-70s for the next five days. according to the mid-day news report, we are expecting "santa ana" winds coming across so. cal. the first wave of winds will warm up the area while the second round will be cooler.

Our weather is not very predictable these days. Last Saturday it was gorgeous and HOT, and Sunday I wore a light jacket all day. It got cooler in the evening. I would recommend just one pair of shorts & more pants, a sweatshirt, & a light jacket. Even on our cold days I don't wear a heavy coat, though it can get quite chilly here.

We were at DL on the 4th, and it was cold - a little rainy -- I wore a jacket all day - it never warmed up enough to take it off.

Temperatures Rebound To Summer-Like Heat
Forecast Calls For Temperatures Around 80 Degrees

LOS ANGELES -- Warmer temperatures pushed December's wet and cold weather out of the Southland Friday.

Similar conditions are expected during the weekend.

Temperatures in parts of the Southland Friday flirted with record high levels.

The predicted high of 83 at the NWS recording station at the University of Southern California was 4 degrees under the record for this date set in 1950, said NWS meteorological technician Bill Hoffer. It was 80 as of 1 p.m.

The expected high at Los Angeles International Airport was 78, Hoffer said. The record for this date, set in 1958, is 87. By 1 p.m., it was 73 at LAX.

The temperature in Woodland Hills was expected to reach 87, 2 degrees under the record set on Dec. 10, 1950, according to the NWS.

Here are some other 1 p.m. temperatures: Santa Monica, 75; Long Beach, 80; Fullerton, 84; Burbank, 81; Claremont, 83; Wrightwood, 59; Big Bear City, 66; Palm Springs, 73.

Expect overnight lows in the 50s. Saturday should mark another clear, warm day as temperatures stay in the upper 70s. clear. Sunday's forecast includes clear skies and temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s.

The offshore flow brought a different type of heat than that of summer, which is affected by high pressure and the proximity of the sun.

Friday's offshore flow moved warm air at the surface around. Areas not affected by offshore winds -- the high desert and inland areas -- will not not see temperaters as warm as communities in the L.A. basin and locations along the shore.

I know this will drive some people crazy but for this time of year, I wouldn't do the bulk of my packing until a couple of days before the trip. There can be a wide range weatherwise. Best rule of thumb is to plan on layers. That way you can add on or strip as needed. :earseek: A couple of days ago it was mild during the day and cold at night. today it was 80 and is staying nice this evening. a few days ago it was 80 but cold at night.

Sounds likes its going to be one of those a little bit of everything type of trips then.

Thanks :)
