Weather question???

I have spent a fair amount of time posting to others questions! Now I have one of my own! We have a short trip booked for January 16-19, 04 at the PC! We can't wait. I am surprising my 6yo DD with this! My question: What kind of weather can I usually expect during this time It has been mnay years since I have visited in January, and do not really remember the weather. Since we are from NJ, it will be cold at home, and we need to pack light, but have what we need.

We have gone to WDW in Jan. several times. There were "warm" days". The Floridians might have thought it was cold in the mornings but a light jacket would work. I wore shorts most of the days but had jeans for evening. We went to Typhoon Lagoon and the weather was beautiful. I am from PA so it was great for us.

Leave your heavy coats in the car at the airport for when you get back.

so we are used to the cold too. We have been to WDW for the last 3 Januarys. We usually go the first two weeks of the month. The crowds are minimal so that is great. However, it can get very cool. We have woken up to frosty grass and cold mornings. In fact, one year all the pretty plants were pulled up with a sign saying Jack Frost had paid them a visit. We always bring fleece jackets and thin gloves. I always bring shorts with high hopes and end up wearing jeans most of the time. You will have a great time in January. Just bring lots of different clothes, you never know what the weather is going to do. On the up side, it has never rained during one of our trips! dawn

In a word, unpredictable. It can be hot, cool, cold and all of the above during your trip. Remember that you will be outside at night and it can be cold -- 30 degree or lower cold. Of course, it could also be in the 80's. Pack layers. If possible, wear a heavy/heavier jacket or Polartec type garment to the airport and then have it on "standby" if needed. Be sure to include gloves -- they can be a lifesaver. Also, be sure to include the bathing suit and the sunscreen.

It's got to be better than Jersey's weather in January! It may actually seem hot to you.

Seriously, unpredictable is a great word for it! Better pack a little of everything. You can always wash clothes if you need to (yuck)! Probably a jacket is a must in the evenings. I wouldn't think it will be swimsuit weather unless you are staying somewhere with a heated pool.

Down here in Dec. to mid March you can drive to work with the heat on and return home with the AC Your blood changes as you live here as I am from the plains of IL and after 12 years 40 can have me digging out a sweatshirt fast. Having said that come down for the time of your life as in Florida, if you do not like the weather wait five minutes and it will be something else.

It also depends on what part of Florida you are coming to as we are divided into four parts as far as the weather is concerned.

The panhandle can get hard freeze, snow flurries and very cold temps. My area Deltonaa/Daytona, a rare hard freeze, lot of frost warnings. days where the high may be 40 degrees. Orlando can have some frost warnings and south of there is like your Northern springtime weather.

A friend that is a cameraman for a local TV station told me Florida is the testing ground for new Weathercasters. If they can come close to forecasting here they can predict anywhere.

As everyone else has told you--it varies dramatically from day to night, and even hour to hour. I've been there that time of the year where we were freezing in our jeans and winter coats, and also comfortable in shorts and t's. It just depends. I'd plan on packing clothes that can be layered. I've definitely seen frost on the roofs in the morning then :::::::::::brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr::::::::::::::

I don't think I've ever been swimming that time of the year, and usually only one water park is operating.

The upside is that attendence is generally quite low, with very few if any lines

You all have confirmed what I feared. I really hoped to be able to pack light since it is only a weekend. I want to only have a carry on, not to check any luggage!! DebbieB: thanks for the weather link. That was very helpful! The way we figure it, even cold in Florida has to be better than cold in Jersey (especially with all the snow we had last winter!!) Still, no matter what the weather, we will have a wonderful trip!! It's always perfect in paradise, isn't it!!??

Before I moved to Florida, I would fly down in November to have time with my DD. I wore cold type on the flight and warm type in my carry on. Like you I never liked having to go to baggage claim.

This way I had both with me and if need be, hit the laundermat.
