The weather is not looking so great for next week with a 50 to 70 percent chance of rain most days. What is the best strategy for the parks in the rain? Is one better than the other to go to? I am considering switching around my fastpasess today depending on what people can advise me to do. We were supposed to do a half day at Blizzard Beach Aug 4th but now it isn't looking like a great plan:confused3 Any ideas would be appreciated!:)

This is always the weather forecast in the summer in Florida. High in the Mid-90s, 50% chance of thunderstorms, 80%+ humidity. Welcome to Orlando!

The showers are typically in the afternoon to evening most days. The showers can also be very localized. It could be pouring at Magic Kingdom and dry at Epcot. You just never know. It just depends on where the showers form.

If you have plans for Blizzard Beach, I would try to go first thing in the morning before the showers have time to develop.

Best strategy is to be ready for rain and able to adjust. Rain is typical this time of year, often daily for just and hour or so in isolated areas. Specific forecasts for "next week" here are always complete garbage and can be safely ignored.

Guys this is FL. It rains most summer days in the afternoons. The days a hot/humid compared to the great white north. Its ok to get wet the temps will be 90F+. looks at it this way the parks might be less filled. Please enjoy your holiday....It could be Sunny and 100F and 100% humidity also!

I've only ever travelled to Florida in the summer - the forecast almost always shows a chance of rain/thunderstorms on summer days. The good news is, they are usually short lived downpours and not day long rain events. Personally, when it's 90+ degrees, I usually welcome a bit of rain to cool down. I wouldn't worry much about a forecast this far out, they are really only accurate when you get down to 24 - 48 hours out.

For rain strategy, if you want to try and stay dry, then pack some ponchos. Having shoes that are quick dry is nice too (i.e. not sneakers and socks). I also tend to wear a lot of quick dry clothes instead of heavier cotton since a pair of twill cotton shorts can stay wet for hours.

As for the water parks, hitting those in the morning is a good plan since the rain normally comes later in the afternoon.

I honestly don't even look at the weather forecast before I go. I do keep an eye on the hurricane centre website for tropical storm/hurricane info so that I can see if there is a need to try and move around a flight. Two years ago we flew down on a day that a hurricane was hitting the keys and was cutting it pretty close because as I sat in the airport waiting for my Orlando flight, they starting cancelling all the southern Florida flights.

As others have said, welcome to Florida.

I would suggest hitting up the water park(s) in the morning to avoid the afternoon showers.

As far as the rain, come prepared. Buy ponchos and know that you will get wet. Some of the fair weather crowds will leave which will leave lines a little shorter.

Keep in mind that some of the outdoor attractions (Big Thunder, SDMT, etc.) will close down for lightning in the area. That said, if a ride is closed (for any reason) during your FP+ time you will be given a ticket to come back later.

Just saw last night a tropical wave, the beginning of a Tropical storm is off Africa. Hopefully if fizzles out and doesn't affect any land.

Thanks for the advice!:) I have been to Disney in the summer 4 other times. I am used to the rain coming every afternoon and then clearing up but I don't remember there being a 60 percent chance of it forecasted before. I was wondering if this meant rain most of the day :confused3 I guess I will stick with my Blizzard Beach morning!

Good point, anyone coming early next week should keep an eye on Invest 93L:

As it is not yet officially a tropical depression, the National Hurricane Center has not started issuing track and strength guidance on the storm. All we have to go on is the various computer models. Each dot on the chart represents 12 hours.

Keep in mind these long range model track forecasts can change wildly each day.

Another Tuesday in summer. About a 0.0000003% chance of impacting Orlando in any way.

Given the current position, computer model forecast track, and the NHC's 80% chance of formation for Invest 93L, I would put it closer to 0.5% at this point.

One in 200, eh? I'll give you that. ;)

I know what you're saying. For our experience our worst weather in FL during the summer was the first week in Aug. 2003. It basically rained throughout the day most times. We were at WL so a lot of hotel stuff. and since it was our 3rd trip using our AP we weren't that concerned but it truly was the most rainy trip we had!

sure it. Just was making a statement of fact on current storms/weather. Sometimes these storms do not directly impact an area however they contribute to extra rain/wind. I live near the eastern seaboard and know this well.

Nope, it doesn't mean that it will rain all day. "60% chance of rain" means that there's a 60% chance that it will rain for some period of time, somewhere in the forecast area. Or, in other words, a 60% chance of that daily afternoon rain that you had on your previous trips.

As do I. As I regular here also, I know that statements like yours, however benign, are misinterpreted and cause undue concern and sometimes panic over something that will almost certainly never be a factor.

Its August in Florida it is going to rain you are going to get some storms, but normally they come later afternoon / early evening..

Dont worry im from the England and we get our fair share of rain and we fly the best part of 4000 miles to enjoy Florida weather..

I'm going August 3 to August 9 and from prior visits I know there is generally a storm in the afternoon, so bringing a durable poncho is key. Unless you don't mind buying them at the park. I got a Coleman jacket poncho in the camping section for under $9 and it's an actual jacket with buttons and a hood made out of poncho material. They have adults & kid sizes and also they have the poncho option if you'd rather that.

As soon as the storms come in they typically roll out - so I wouldn't panic :)

It's summer in Flordia, and we leave for 12 days at Disney on Saturday ... so of course it's going to rain nonstop. The only solution is not to let it get in your way. Heck - it's sometimes a good thing ... helps cool the place down and thin out the crowds.

Just pack some good ponchos, keep your head on a swivel for when the really bad storms hit, and keep track for where the best areas to wait out the really bad parts are. The good news is that the only time it won't be crowded with wall to wall people is when the rain is pouring out of the sky.
