we have booked for july 2008. have read that the weather can be bad? does it rain much etc

Hi,

Weather is very hot, sometimes touching 100 degrees at times with high humidity also, very common to get heavy afternoon storms but generally they do not last too long.

Sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for but July is the hottest time of the year in Florida.

Johnny's spot-on with his comments but I'd add they won't stop you having a great time if you're suitably prepared.

We've gone twice in October and twice in July (kids at High School now) and we enjoy both equally. In fact, I probably prefer July given my liking for heat and longer park hours.

Be at the parks early, take a break in the late afternoon if need be (often when it rains) and be flexible cos you won't stick to your plan throughout the holiday !

Ditto what has been written above.

Up until a few years ago I'd have said you have never seen rain like it but now it's not so different from what we've seen in the UK but Orlando is better prepared.

Best advice is to get on the road early and get as much done in the parks or whatever as you simply cannot predict what days the rain will come as the forecast will always predict possible thunderstorms at this time of year.

When it does come it is likely to be sometime between 2 and 5 and last maybe 1 to 3 hours.
Our last trip we lost a couple of days from mid-afternoon through into the evening though.

The parks will shut the outside rides if lightning is expected within a certain radius and the water parks also take precautions, sometimes it is better to cut your losses and head home for a break or simply call it a day.

Factor losing some time due to weather in the afternoon in your plans and have a few indoor things lined up as alternatives and it won't spoil your holiday in any way.

Getting to the parks early is essential, that way you beat the worst of the heat and crowds.

Plan plenty of rest days as it can be tiring in hot weather.

I was there in July and it was very hot. We still had an absolutly fabulous time and I'm sure you will too. Just don't push yourselfs too hard.:goodvibes

as everyone has said, it's hotter and more humid than you thought possible (100% humidity every day) and the most crowded time of the year other than Christmas....

so you have to get there BEFORE the parks open....

we go every year in July for 3 weeks.....we get to the parks before they open and leave by 1 in the afternoon when the parks are too hot and crowded for us....

and yes it rains every day at about 4 PM, usually lasting about an hour (torrential rain with lightning/thunder)....

but as i said, we're there every year and it doesn't get in our way of having a great time....

We were there from the 9th to the 23rd, and only had two major storms (both of which occurred on days when we weren't at parks luckily) and about 5 or 6 days when it didn't rain at all, so i guess you can be lucky.

Like others have said tho, it is VERY hot, it didn't go below 95 degrees when we were there, so take the opportunity to go inside a shop as often as you can just to get a blast of that sweet sweet air conditioning (oh, and to buy a few souvenirs of course :cool1: )

It will probably rain every day while you are there, BUT, the showers there are very isolated. remember that WDW is the size of manchester, so just because its raining at one park, it might not be raining at another if you arent ready\wanting to go home. Pack your poncho everyday!

The other thing is, there is plenty of stuff to do inside in the afternoons anyway, when its either raining or too hot.

Ive only ever been in july, and ive had a fantastic time every time ive been. its impossible for the weather to spoil a holiday in florida(hurricanes aside).

we were there 7th-21st this year. Had a great time, yes it was hot but if you drink plenty and plan all your must dos for the am it will be great.

The longest we waited was for 50 mins for Dinosaur, please dont think oh thats the same for all rides, its not.we were very clever in our planning and made sure we were at the gates for 8am ready for a 9am opening(Very important for july).

Also use your fastpass wisely aswell. for example we knew we wanted to leave EPCOT one day at about 2pm but also knew we would be returning in the evening,we got fast pass on our way out for soaring for 8pm.
we went out went shopping to Walmart had a meal at Logans roadhouse and then had a swimm in the hotel pool (offsite) got showered and changed and returned to Epcot at 7pm, were able to ride Nemo x2no wait, mission space x2 5mins wait and test track, only once before our time ran out for soaring.
Then got a great spot for Refletions of Earth:cool1: we our myself, DH,DS8andDD4:cool1: :yay:

Hi there

We got back on 2nd Aug after 3 weeks, I thought we would get the storms around 4 ish each day, but I have to be honest, out of the 21 days, about 12 of them in the end had storms and some of them a fair amount of rain around mid day.

Ok, it does not get cold, and sometimes they are short storms, but there were a couple that put pay to the rest of the afternoon.

I am not sure that we would go again in July, it does not ruin the holiday, but lets face it no matter where you are on hols, if it starts to rain too often it does get on your pip.

I am still unsure as to whether (pun) we would go again in July. Dont take it as red that the only storms you get will be around 4pm for an hour.

Cheers

Steve

I agree with steve .We were there at POR from 26/6-9/8 and the rain was hit and miss. Some days had none ,2 days it rained on and off all day and others just rained for a short while mainly around midday.I always go november and must say I will not go again in July.It was far too humid for us but it didn't spoil our holiday.Just love the christmas theming and cooler nights:cloud9:

Hi Crabbie, Kinsgswinford, how close is that, we are near lakeside up by Peters Hill Primary school.

We did have a fab time, but I was a little dissapointed by the rain. We went over Easter in 2002 and it rained once for about an hour in the whole 2 and a half weeks. Not sure I would go again that time of the year, I know it may sound stupid, but at a cost of nearly 8 grand for 3 weeks with spending, I dont want to see a drop!.

Welcome home and are you going again?

Steve

I would say most people who go in July do so because of the school holidays, it isn't the best time to go by any means and prices tend to be expensive too.
