Weather forecast not looking good

Stop worrying about the weather as you cannot do ONE thing to change it. Nothing. Zero. Worry about the things you can control!
This is my philosophy will all things in life. Worrying about things well beyond our control is not productive.

Ouch, some people will only get one cruise in their whole entire life, most people will get none. But since way before anybody can even remember, everybody dreams of a sunny vacation. Nobody wants to know that they're going to have a wet and wild ugly week. Cut some slack, somebody's wind has literally been taken from their sails! You knew what direction this was going to go as soon as you saw the opening line. Now DISboards is about helping people, go look and see if you can find somebody to help.

And OP as for your bad weather, I'm sorry that this will not make your trip as you had hoped. I was on the Magic just after a pretty bad storm. I did have a few rainy days of course it had to be the day that we were at sea. Several of the excursions were canceled because of weather conditions even though it was sunny out. With that said...The reason the navigators are only done one day in advance is because of the weather. You'll notice on a sunnier days the navigator will have fewer indoor activities. On a rainy day everybody working top side and in the sun will now be inside creating a new opportunities for cruisers to enjoy. They really will work hard for you to enjoy your day.

During my bad weather and the incredibly large swells that were making several sick,(since you can expect large swells you might want to check into seasick patches). If you get the chance during these large swells go up to the goofy pool and see if the water is splashing a good 10-15 feet out of the pool. It's the wildest thing to look at. I'm sorry I never got pictures of it. Try to have a good time they will take good care of you I'm sure. Bring some disposable raincoats pick them up at the dollar store.

It's actually a place where everyone can share their views or opinions. We like to be helpful when possible but I can't say that's what it's for.
Unless the pp is breaking any rules, I don't see any reason he/she can't speak up. :goodvibes

I've been on two DCL cruises before where there have been hurricanes heading right for us when we boarded. Talk about being anxious! We had no idea what was in store. And guess what? Not a drop of rain the whole time :). The weather is so finicky in the Caribbean. I've been at Castaway Cay when the weather has been so bad you would never believe we'd be able to dock, but the Captain waited it out and we docked late and it ended up being the most beautiful day possible. Keep thinking happy thoughts, and hopefully the sun will shine brightly for you. :)

I am on the Oct. 25th Fantasy cruise as well, and it's funny in a way that the storm system is out near Mexico because the last time we did a Western Caribbean there was a storm system near Mexico and we had the worst possible weather when we were in GC and Cozumel. We had gorgeous days in Key West and Castaway Cay though. This cruise is a do over for that cruise, so if the weather is crappy again I might just give up on the Western Caribbean lol. Atleast if the weather is bad, I know that I can drown my sorrows at the ice cream machine :). :thumbsup2

Thanks all for the positive reply's
I can't change the weather but I can cancel. yes I will lose lots of money but I took a vacation with the hopes of having a beautiful cruise on a tropical island. Not a scary, windy, rainy, boat ride to dock in a even worse weather port. I know there are risks of Mother Nature not cooperating. hoping for some direction on whether to cAncel and get back 75% of my money and just hanging out somewhere in FL with warm weather and sun or hope For the change in ports . is fine with me as long as it's anywhere with sun and sand. And yes just really bummed and the person that said I just got the wind taking out of my sail is so correct. Still hoping for the best. Thanks all!!

Wow, what insurance coverage do you have that's giving you back 75% at this close date, with a named tropical storm threatening? I guess it must be a "cancel for any reason" policy, but surprised it's not then 100%.

Personally, I'd take the cruise. They'll do the best to steer clear of the storm, possibly changing ports. You might get to see some places you didn't expect, or just hang out onboard as the ship heads away from the chaos.

Enjoy your cruise (or land vacation if you cancel)!

Yes it's Disney's cancel for reason policy

You realize the travel insurance purchased from DCL itself is not exactly "cancel for any reason?" You would have to make a claim through the insurance (is it Allianz now?) first, be denied. And then put in a claim to DCL who will give you a CREDIT to use towards another cruise within a year. You won't get cash back to use for a change to a land vacation.

Good luck making your decision and enjoy your vacation -- whatever you do!

I don't think telling someone to stop checking because you can't change it is bad advice.

Before our cruise, someone kept posting our awful weather forecasts in our FB group and it honestly just stressed me out.
Turns out it was a beautiful week, and I regretted cancelling the excursion we cancelled due to the forecast. I can't imagine cancelling the entire cruise because of it! Do what you want, but I know I would have had a blast even in some rain.

Thanks for writing this!

I have been so busy I haven't looked at the forecast AT ALL. We are going onto the Western C. this weekend as well. The link to the NOAA website - oh I wish I had not looked at it! :scared1:

Oh gosh, I'm sorry I made you worry! I've been in this situation before, and the storm has just up and turned around and left, so nothing to worry about yet. Are you in our facebook group? We are having a grand time in there chatting, bad weather or not! :)

I can't understand cancelling and losing a huge chunk of money just because there's a chance of rain. How are you going to feel if you cancel and the weather turns out to be great the whole cruise? I mean, do what you want and it's not my money so I don't care but I guess I just don't understand.

Over the course of three cruises and 10 scheduled ports we had to miss two ports completely because of hurricanes, we were unable to dock at Castaway Cay because of strong winds and currents, we had non stop rain in two ports and we had nice sunny weather in only five ports. If I was only happy with my cruise if there was perfect weather I would be pretty miserable. Personally I don't worry much about the weather because I can't control it and no matter what I'm still at enjoying relaxing at sea instead of sitting at home cursing the rain.

Worried it might be more than JUST a chance of rain??? still waiting it out a few days. Staying positive. But I'm thinking about a back up plan if need be. No I don't want to lose money and can't afford to but...

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 PM EDT MON OCT 20 2014

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure
located over the southwestern Bay of Campeche have changed little
in organization since this afternoon. This system has the potential
to become a tropical cyclone during the next couple of days while it
moves slowly eastward across the southern Bay of Campeche. Later
in the week, the low is forecast to interact and possibly merge
with a frontal system over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico or
northwestern Caribbean Sea. An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance
aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance tomorrow
afternoon, if necessary. Interests in the Yucatan Peninsula should
monitor the progress of this system.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...60 percent.

If weather is bad and you can't make a port the cruise staff does an amazing job of keeping you entertained. Some of our best days have been when we couldn't make a port. Our second cruise we couldn't make CC and the captain had to navigate in between a hurricane to the west and a tropical depression to the east. It was chilly and windy but we had so much fun. My advice is to stop looking at the weather reports, start packing and get ready for a great time. Take the attitude that whatever happens you will be on a Disney Cruise, enjoying time with your family and that's all that matters. There are a million things that could go wrong with any vacay, if you worry about them you're going to miss out on the joys of making a crappie situation turn out fun.

Also, if the rain is bad enough at port, DCL gives out the cool Disney Parks ponchos, so you'll get a free parting gift

I think you might get rained on, but based on what you posted, that is a pretty wide area. Anything or nothing could happen. I'm sure the ship's captain will do his best to keep you safe and dry.

You took a huge chance by booking a cruise in October and unfortunately you are being hit with the worst case scenario. Go on the cruise and you won't regret it, the boat is the real attraction.

Actually a lot of us didn't have a choice about it. We already had this cruise booked to sail the middle of NOV , but Disney changed and sail date and put us in hurricane season. If we wanted to keep 2 days in CC at the same price this was only option.

November is also hurricane season

Actually Nov is still hurricane season too. Officially it's June 1 to Nov 30.

Personally, I can't imagine canceling a cruise due to weather. Bad weather can happen anyplace, anytime. The only reason I even check the weather forecast before a trip is to decide what kind of jacket to take along. What kind of insurance will refund your trip for bad weather? I understand refunds due to planes being grounded, but just for a weather forecast?

Basically this. We had people freaking out before our last cruise because it was going to rain every day. It did rain three days - for about an hour each time. It's the Caribbean. It rains.

The rain chances for CC seem to be dropping as time passes. As of now its 60% on Sat and 10% on Sun. Nassau still looks to be a washout (90% - thunderstorms) but we consider a stop in Nassau to be a "sea day" anyway.
