We are booked on the Jan 7, 2006 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. What can we expect for weather once we leave Florida. What will the temps be in St. Maarten, Castaway Cay this time of the year.

Thanks

It varies totally from week to week. We have done 5 cruises and at least 2 more WDW trips in Jan/Feb. On 4 of the 5 cruises and 1 of the 2 WDW trips the weather was great....on the cruise, like high 70s during the day. On one cruise/WDW and one WDW alone it got into the low 40s in Orlando. On the cruise, I found myself on a beach chair at Castaway covering myself with towels to keep warm, and I hadn't been near the water. I did dip my feet in, and decided to quit being stupid...and went back to the ship. On that trip, Orlando was in the high 30s/low 40s, and the cruise ports were in the 60s during the day. It was not pleasant! But...it was 20 back home, so.....

The bottom line is that you can't predict it. Take along at least one outfit for "just in case it is cold" but plan on wonderful weather.

Ed T,

It's good to know someone else from this board will be traveling at the same time!!!!!

Been on 2 Caribbean cruises in January, the last on on the Magic. Only thing I've seen is that the air temperature can be very close to the sea temperature, which makes it seem cool when you get out of the water.
The average temperature in January in St.Thomas is 77 degrees. Pretty comfortable but could be a little cool if you're wet and there is a trade wind.
DW was comfortable....which says a lot since she is known at work to sit outside eating her lunch in long sleeves on a 100 degree summer day eating soup and drinking coffee without breaking a sweat.

Went to Magan's Bay on St. Thomas, weather and water were fine, nice and warm, but not anything uncomfortably hot (we live in the south and there are times we stay out of the water when those still living up north, as I used to, will be in the water). St. Maarten was also very warm and beach weather feeling right at Great Bay Beach at the other end of the water taxi on that trip. Sea Days were fine. CC water temp was low 70's, maybe even 70, and I stayed on shore, and DS got in for two minutes maybe before getting back on the beach and enjoying a lovely day on CC w/o going in the water for the rest of the visit. And CC was too cool for swimming but a nice if breezy day during the Jan. 16th '05 sailing of the Wonder.

I think January is a great time for the Eastern. Should be fine, and no hurricane season.

We did a January cruise and it was COLD. Everytime we got off the ship we would be in sweats but by noon it would warm up. That included Castaway Cay! A CM told me that it varies from year to year.

We have done four cruises on the Magic in January. The only really cold day was in port in Florida. I am sure that it can change from year to year (even week to week) but we still like the January cruises.

We cruised in on the first of February and it was cold while we were at the port, but it was beautiful in the Carribean.

Like others have said we were cool leaving Port Canaveral, other than the weather was great the whole week. Low 80s, high 70s. Warm enough to swim on the ship and at each port each day. You will love it.

but for us it was quite a climate change (12 below 0 when we left home) compared to where you will be coming from.
