Hello everyone. We are leaving to go to Disneyworld in 5 days, can't wait it will be our first time. My question is concerning the rain. I have had people tell me that in Florida in the summer it usually rains like clockwork in the afternoon, everyday for about a half hour and then stops. I hope this is true since the weather for next week calls for the chance of rain everyday. Has anyone experienced this to be true or is it usually an all day rain event. We are from the east coast and when it rains it usually rains the whole day. Thanks for your input, I know no one can accurately predict the weather but it helps to get input from those who have been there in the summer.

We have been several time in the summer and there are usually showers almost every day. Personally we don't mind it because they usually don't last long and I don't mind getting wet at a park when its 95 degrees outside!

yup, it rains pretty much everyday around 3ish. Just bring the ponchos and enjoy. People run from the parks when it rains.....crazy!

They call it "the daily rinse" :goodvibes I can come down pretty heavy then, just plan on hanging around some of the shops for a while if you get caught in it, or if you see it coming, head to a nice long attraction (Philharmagic, etc.) DON'T leave the park...many visitors don't know about the "daily rinse" and leave; as soon as the rain stops, get to those busy rides and you won't have much of a wait! :thumbsup2

Another name that Ive heard for it is 'shower hour'. Around 3pm everyday the sky will open up for usually 20-30mins and it will just start to pour. Take shelter in a near by attraction or shop and just wait it out. Or grab a poncho or anorak and continue on! One of the great things about shower hour is that a lot of people just think that it's just going to rain for the rest of the day and they leave...so the park is usually less crowded and it's a lot better temperature wise too cuz the rain cools everything down. My piece of advice to you is to make sure that you wear shoes with a good grip on the bottom during shower hour and directly afterwards. I have been stuck in the rain with regular flip flops on and I slid all over the place. So pack a poncho and wear good shoes and you will be set for the rain!

We were at WDW this time last July and it only rained three times. The first being the tail end of the first hurricane to blow through. The rain really is no big deal. Just have a poncho and keep on going. The only possible problem is if there is the threat of lightning the outdoor attractions will be closed. This includes some of the swimming pools at the resorts.

The first time we went in the summer a friend of mine told me to hope for the rain because it will cool you down a bit and lots of people will leave the parks so you can get on some attractions faster(this was pre FP). She was absolutely right.

Go to the Dollar Store for your ponchos, I like the Dollar Tree, if you have those in your area. They come sometimes 2 to a package, are flat and easy to carry. We would reuse them by hanging them to dry overnight, rolling them tightly and putting them in a sandwich-size ziplock bag. I like to use a poncho on the Kali River Rapids ride at AK. Call me a wimp, but I hate wet clothes!
You will see and hear the rain storms as they approach.

Hey, we'll be there at the same time!!

Orlando's weather is very much like ours in New Orleans. Most afternoons it rains for just a little bit...and then it gets REALLY steamy. Don't count on rain every day though...we've been having a drought....can you believe that??? First Katrina, now a drought....there's some irony for ya.

Have a great trip!

I'd say just whip out the ponchos and hang out for a while....once the rain stops...the park is yours for the taking!

And I've heard that in AK, the animals come out after it rains....

...oops...sorry about the double post

Just got back after 11 days and I can honestly say that it rained every afternoon except for 2 days. 1 day it rained for about 2 hours. We ducked into a restaurant and had a long, slow lunch. Bring ponchos!!!!! Everyone clears out of the parks, so the bus lines are long. Stay, it will be worth it. The water parks really clear out. It does take awhile before they will let you go near the water again, they make sure that all the thunder and lightning clouds are far enough away.

Anyway, Disney rain is fun.....

Well, you can always do what I just done. I went to a website, www.weather.com and checked out the forecast for Orlando during the times I am going to be at Disney so I know what to expect. I wasn't surprised that it said Isolated Thunder Storms almost daily, because I live in Florida and I understand. However, just remember that doesn't mean that it WILL rain.

In fact, in 4 days {July 15} there is only a 30% chance! :cool1:

Rain in Florida is a myth...I have yet to see a drop of it during our vacations.

Just plan your trips for the same time as us - no rain! :teeth:

In August the daily afternoon rain can be in the form of a pretty violent thunderstorm, so be prepared for some outdoor attractions closing. Also, beware the hurricanes!

Summer=rain no doubt about it.
Every afternoon around 3 (set your clocks by it) it will POUR!!!! People whip out the ponchos and head for cover...some leave the park alltogether. This is a good time to go on some indoor attractions, then hit some major rides after the downpour, because many people will have left the park.
It usually dosne't rain for long.
It's not that bad...a little cool relief.

We always go in summer and we end up hitting crummy weather everytime. I've yet to see the "quick showers" in the afternoon. We generally get HOURS of rain and thunder/lightning.

But that's just us. ;)

I'm praying that this time (we leave on Saturday), we're going to experience the normal daily rain and break our curse. :teeth:

Have a fun trip! :)

Not for us us. We were there July 1st - July 8th in 2001 and it only rained for one day for about an hour and that was it.
We'll see how it is next week when we are there. I think the key is just be prepared if it does rain.

Never been in July before, but I've been there in June and experience some downpours & bad lightening. Didn't last long though. We'll be there next week too, with a little luck we'll be okay. That is if grinningghost doesn't jinx us!lol
