I am so used to knowing everything about Disney that planning a trip is easy. This year we are also thinking about taking a trip to the Gatlinburg area and I am having such a hard time picking a place to stay without knowing the area and the pros and cons for the different locations.

I think we have it narrowed down to these two places...the first is in Wears Valley which I understand is about 15 miles or so from Gatlinburg.

And the other is in the Black Bear Falls development right near Gatlinburg.

I did a search on the boards already but couldn't find too much info on Wears Valley compared to Gatlinburg. Does anyone know anything about these two rental companies or have advice on location? How long would the drive be from Wears Valley to Gatlinburg and is the road a regular highway or a narrow mountain type road?

Thanks for info that you have...!

Hi-

I can't be too much help, since it's been about 7 years since I've vacationed there (thanks to Disney World!)

Gatlinburg was nice, but very tourist-y. We found Wears Valley to be absolutely beautiful, and more authentic. If I remember correctly, it's about a 20 minute drive to Gburg.

We stayed at Hidden Mountain Resorts (wonderful little cabins) about halfway between Wears Valley and Pigeon Forge.

So, based on my limited memory, I'd stay at the WV place.

PS don't miss Cade's Cove...it's a beautiful place to bring a picnic!

We just booked a cabin today at this place:

It's right in Pigeon Forge and you can walk to Dollywood. Two people from the area highly recommended it. My husband picked the cabin because it has a private hot tub and air hockey. Men! :rolleyes2

Have fun with whatever you decide!

Thank you both for your thoughts!

I'm going to check out the GolfView and Hidden Mountain too...It is always nice to have a place that others say is nice...

We booked a cabin through www.sugarmaplecabins.com We read a lot of reviews on tripadvisor.com, and it came highly recommended as a place that is well represented on the internet(pictures are not exaggerated)!

I've never been to wears valley, but got married in Pigeon Forge and rented a cabin in Tennessee. Pigeon Forge is a nice place to stay. Where we were in Gatlinburg was nice too. It's great that Gatlinburg is close to everything. We spent a day in Cherokee and a day in Cades cove. The drive is beautiful. Gatlinburg is so close to the Smokey Mtn. state park. There are lots of nice places to hike and see waterfalls. Here is the place we rented from. They have the lowest prices I could find and also have great specials. YOu pretty much always get the 7th night free and sometimes get the 3rd and 7th night free, or just the 3rd night if you aren't staying that long.

Golfview resort is a wonderful place to stay. We always rent a condo there so I can play golf and my DW & DD can head to Dollywood (we have season passes). We're staying there in May as a matter of fact.
