We just purchased tickets to MNSSHP. We have plans that evening to eat in EPCOT and then will catch the monorail to MK to the party [no time to return to hotel beforehand]! My question is this.....I had planned on wearing my Snow White costume, but now I'm questioning whether I should since we will be in EPCOT first :confused3 .....I'd be mortified if a child came up to me thinking I *really* was Snow White [I don't look that authentic, but I'm really worried about it!]. We're going 10/5, so it's pretty far in advance of Halloween! Any feedback would be appreciated :goodvibes

Adults are not allowed to wear costumes except to the Halloween party. So you would not be allowed to wear it at EPCOT.

You will have to bring it with you and change for the party.

And that is why I defer to disboards :good vibes I had no idea that rule existed!! Thank you so much for saving me from potential embarrassment! :bitelip:

I didn't think they let adults dress up as the Disney characters at MNSSHP either for fear children would get "confused"???

Maybe I am wrong but, that is what I always thought.

Yes you are mistaken. On an average day they do not allow adults to dress up for that very reason. But for the parties, it is permitted (I saw dozens of Cinderella's, for example, last year). The only rules for costumes are: nothing too scary / offensive and nothing with a mask which covers your face.

We have been for 2 years running DH as Jack Sparrow DS as Stitch, and one year I was the Wicked Queen from Snow White and the next year I was Maleficent! All they ask is for you not to pose for photos as that character. Some of my best photos are me as the wicked queen with the (real) Old Hag.
Dress up and enjoy, if you are worried about Epcot just ring and ask. We were dinning at the Californian Grill and people had costumes on eating there before heading to MNSSHP. If you can't embrace your inner child there were can you? We can't go this year, I am so jealous.

I don't know if the rules have changed, but we attended MNSSHP in 2007 and dressed as a Princess. I was also not, by far, the only adult dressed up as a Disney Character. I'm almost relieved not to have to eat in EPCOT in costume :goodvibes

You are inspiring me to try and figure it out! My sister suggested I put the costume in a locker at MK during the day and just change into it when we get there......hmmmmm.......

There is nothing to ring and ask. You are not allowed in a park in a costume.
A restaurant not in a park is a whole different thing.

Directly from the fax section of Walt Disney World website:

Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks (and which may result in refusal of admittance) includes but is not limited to:
Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character

Here's the link to that section (it's found in the Theme Park FAQ section )

Disney DOES allow costumes in the Magic Kingdom for the party. This quote is taken from the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween page on the Disney website:

During Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes. Even better, you can collect delicious candy as you trick-or-treat around Magic Kingdom theme park.

Here's the link for that quote: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/pa...-events/mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/

As others have said...you CAN wear a costume in a Hotel restaurant prior to attending the Halloween party. But you cannot enter one of the other parks in a costume. So just carry it with you if you cannot return to hotel room to change before the party.

On a side note...kind of a waste to go eat dinner at another park...the party ticket allows you into the Magic Kingdom at 4:00 PM (even though the start time is not until 7:00) Most people eat in the Magic Kingdom, or at a Magic Kingdom hotel so they get in to the park before the party actually starts...that way you can be in the area you want to be before the party starts

The additional rule to this is that if you are dressed up as a Disney character, you cannot pose for pictures with other guests (in other words, no pretending to be the character). :) Otherwise, yes, you see lots of dressed up adults at MNSSHP; everything from the princesses to the villains.

The answer was posted directly from the Disney website stating that an adult cannot wear a costume in another park outside of the Holloween party. So there is truly no point in calling to ask because the answer is still going to be no. The poster wasn't on the high horse...just stating the obvious

Thank You.

I'm not sure what high horse I was supposed to be on, just trying to say that a rest outside of a park does not have the same rules and an adult isn't allowed into ANY Disney park in a costume.

Agreed. But we are staying at the Swan, and we'll be back at our hotel in-between. We thought it'd be nice to walk through EPCOT and catch the monorail to MK [we have always stayed at a Monorail Resort on prior visits], so dinner at EPCOT made sense. We're excited to experience the boardwalk and the close proximity to HS and EPCOT :cool1:

Horses are not allowed in the parks, high, low or otherwise.

Unless they are service animals, or part of Main St Transportation.

Or you are going to MNSSHP as the Headless Horseman. But then you can't ride any of the rides.

Hmm. Not only a snippy answer but then another snippy answer supporting the first one. Perhaps the poster had a point because the people do seem kinda mean. Maybe it was not intentional, but it did come across that way.

There was nothing wrong with the suggestion to ring up Epcot. The OP would have received the same answer anyway. Geez. :confused3

OP - great question! It probably would have occurred to me to wonder this the morning of the MNSSHP as we were contemplating putting on costumes!

FWIW, I got it... life's too short not to find humor.

Except that you can't just ring up Epcot. ;)

Also, I think most posters come here with their questions as they trust they will get the right answer. Why bother to come here and ask if all we are going to tell the to do is call and ask someone else?

And, to hone it to a finer point, the answers that you get from the "Phone CM's" have no bearing whatsoever on what actually happens at the parks.

The "Phone CM's" have a stellar track record of offering spectacularly incorrect information on every kind of question regarding park procedures and transportation operation.

Am I saying that every answer given HERE is correct?

Nope.

But, if the "Phone CM" gives you wrong info, you're stuck with that wrong info.
You won't ever know that it's wrong until you're at WDW and find out differently. Sometimes to great detriment in time, effort and money.

OTOH, if any answer given on this forum is wrong, it will only be minutes before others will come by to correct it.
This form of instant "peer review" will give posters very accurate information
for their trips.
The DISboards (despite petty squabbles due to misunderstandings of "tone" and "intention") is about the best source of tried and true WDW information that can be found anywhere.
