Wearing black to a wedding?

I'm glad you asked the bride - that is what I was going to suggest. I wish my SIL had asked me before she decided to wear a white dress to my wedding. It was December and there were two people in white - me and SIL.

Totally appropriate - I wore a little black dress to my cousin's wedding last month. As others said, the only color inappropriate for a wedding is white and off-white (creams, ivorys, etc.)

fwiw, i never heard the no all red thing.

I hadn't either, until I lived in the south for a few years. A new friend of mine was getting married and invited me. It was an afternoon wedding in June in Tennessee (Read:HOT!). I wore a very nice red sundress. At the reception, you would not believe how many people made comments to me about wearing red! I was stunned.

What stunned me even more is my husband at the time said to me, when I picked him up for the wedding, "Are you sure red is appropriate?" I asked him why on earth not?? Then we get to the reception and all he did was say, "I told you so!!"

I went to a big wedding March. Maybe 250 people there.

I had o na black pantsuit with pink blouse, dd had on a black dress with pink sweater.

Tons of other women with some type of black outfit.

herc.

I don't think you need to ask anyone. I grew up in NJ and everyone I knew wore a little black dress to a wedding, that's about all I've ever worn. Most weddings I've been to it was the most common color there, maybe it's a regional thing but before now I've never even heard of black being an inappropriate for wedding attire.

I cant imagine someone caring about the color dress someone wears at a wedding anyway, strange.:space:

IMO - a bride (or groom) should not dictate what their guests wear UNLESS it's a black-tie wedding.

and - in that case - "black-tie" should be written on the invitation.

common sense is not to wear white/off-white.

and really - the bride is not going to let the fact that someone wore a color she disapproves of ruin her wedding day...and if she does - Im' sorry, that's pretty shallow.

HOWEVER - she has full right to be pissed if someone wears white/off white.

Almost all of the dresses I wear to weddings are black and I always see lots of women in black dresses, pant suits, etc.

Have a great time at the wedding!

P.S.
Is the ceremony at Gate of Heaven? It's a beautiful church. :D

I've worn black to several weddings in Boston. not south boston, but still. In fact, the last picture a bunch of friends took at the last wedding the guy taking it said "say black!" every one of us was wearing it! LOL!

It is. My soon to be SIL sings there! She has a gorgeous voice. I have seen pictures of it and it's a gorgeous church. I love old churches and cathedrals. It's the perfect wedding church I think. It reminds me of something in a fairy tale.

It is a huge church, a beautiful place to have a wedding. Do they have a lot of guests attending? I hope you have a great time at the wedding!

I'm not sure the exact guest count, but my family alone is huge so there should be a lot. :) I can't wait!
