The saddest thing happened at my son's high school...they were having off season football practice Friday, and they were running passing drills. For some reason the coach didn't have the kids wearing their football helmets during practice. Anyway, one of the boys was running to catch a pass (looking back over his shoulder) and when he caught it he turned around and ran smack dab into the goal post. He fractured his cheek and got a huge lump on his forehead. He was unconcious. The coach picked him up and put him in his car (instead of calling an ambulance
). The local hospital sent him to a larger hospital in Norman, and now he is on life support. They said his brain was too swollen to try to drain it right now, and that they don't think he's going to make it! They said this could've been avoided if he had had his helmet on...it might have rung his bell a bit, but it wouldn't have been this bad....so please make sure your kids wear their helmets at practice!!!!
