My DH and I just returned from 4 nights at BCV (LOVED this place), and 2 nights at the AKL. We stayed for 2 nights at the AKL in Nov. and really liked it, so when we got a postcard rate good until Feb. 13th, we decided to stay there again for 2 nights. Anyways, our experience there this time around was really bad
In our first room (on the 4th floor), the people in the adjoining room argued loudly in a foreign language late at night. We finally called the front desk after midnight, and the night supervisor walked past their room to see if she could hear it too. Of course she could (they were LOUD!), so she called them to tell them to knock it off and then called us twice to make sure that they had. I did ask her if we should move to another room, but she said that it usually only takes one phonecall to put an end to noisy guests. Well, they did stop arguing for a few hours, but they started right back up again very early in the AM!
Anyways, we only got 3 hours of sleep that night, so I went down to the front desk to request that we be moved to a quieter room. They moved us to the 2nd floor. In that room, we had an adjoining room that housed a child who literally screamed until well past midnight. This was not an infant. It was a child who was old enough to talk and was clearly refusing to go to sleep. We didn't call the front desk this time, because we figured it was useless. The child finally quieted down around 1AM, but then we realized that we could hear the people upstairs from us pottying loud and clear. We heard this and a toilet flushing over and over all night
DH thinks that the toilet was broken because it flushed at regular intervals for the entire night. I don't think that this hotel has any sort of soundproofing at all! We would NEVER pay to stay there again. I really wish that I'd listened to the complaints about AKL that were posted on these boards in the past. It would have saved us two sleepless nights!
