It was pretty cool. I dug out my passes and info so now I can give details and full report.
I'd say mid-morning/approaching noon, we got our passes midway off the exit ramp to the barnstormer. We were traveling, me, DD2 and my mom. My mom does not do roller coasters under any circumstance. So DD2 and I got the passes. I told them we were with my mom and she didn't go on the roller coaster so they said to see a member of the dream team at the bottom of the ramp (which was where my mom was meeting us) and he gave my mom a pass. We went back on the barnstormer because there were no lines and my brave little girl loves it. On the way off, they were still there giving out the passes. I said that I had already received the passes and we didn't need them. I didn't want to take what I didn't need and what would be special for someone else. The CM handing out the passes said that this is a sweepstakes and she has to give them to us or she could lose her job. So I took the 2 passes.
So knowing we had a late night ahead of us, we went back to our hotel. We returned in the evening and brought the extra 2 passes hoping to find 2 people to give them to. We were on pooh about 8:30 or so. There was a young couple in our honeypot with us. I asked them if they had received the passes and they hadn't. I asked them if they wanted to stay for the special time. They kept asking if I was sure I didn't need them, but we didn't because there were only 3 of us and 5 passes. So I gave them the passes. They seemed happy and I hope they enjoyed the extra time. (We didn't see them in the hour, but they were probably on space mountain with no lines!)
The actual name on the passes was "Special Park Dream Time Event." It was May 7. They gave us the plastic passes you wear around your neck. They said "congratulations! Have you ever dreamed of staying in a Disney Park after colsing time to experience the magic just a little longer? Well, that dream is about to come true during tonights Special Park Dream Time event - created just for you as part of the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway. Join us in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park just after the park closes for the special park dream time event kick off."
The time was 9:30 to 10:30 on a night the park closed at 9. So wishes ended around 9:15 and everyone with the special passes went to tomorrow land. They did a kick off event with a DJ and characters and then let us loose. They gave us the strips of paper that look like the park schedules and the following rides were opened:
Fantasyland: Dumbo, small world, tea cups, winnie the pooh, philharmagic, peter pan, pooh's playful spot, snow white.
Liberty Square: Haunted Mansion
Adventureland: Pirates, Magic carpets
Frontierland: BIg thunder mountain, splash
Tomorrowland: Buzz, Space Mountain, Stitch, Monsters Inc
I'd say that this is probably best if you are there with older kids who like the big thrill rides and who can move around the park quickly. But my DD had a great time. I couldn't resist splash mountain though so at about 10:25 I made my mom and DD wait while I went on. That's ok - she actually loves the little play house with the slide in the area by splash mountain. She conked out in the stroller on the way back to main street. The long dark empty walk from Splash Mountain back to the castle was my favorite part.
I had been to the parks many times since the YOAMD started and have never won anything before. So when you least expect it, the magic can happen to you!!
