This was at Disneyland Hotel. I am posting here to see if this has ever happened to anyone else at any other Disney Resort. Maybe we're over reacting, but when we opened the door we heard water running in the shower, saw items on the vanity and closed the door quickly. By the way it was about 10PM.
When we went to the desk, they admitted they gave keys to the wrong room that was occupied by someone with same last name. I had given my full name and driver's license. They said they were sorry and "an amenity" would be sent to the room in the morning. The "amenity" was a small bowl of strawberries.
Isn't guest security a big deal? What if we had entered the room after they had gone to sleep and turned the lights on and scared them and us worse than we were? Or I'm sure there could have been worse times to walk in someone else's room!
In the morning we found a half used can of chewing tobacco in the closet. We left it with a note for the housekeeper to dispose and a tip. When we came back to the room, beds were made but can of tobacco and tip remained.
The room we were assigned was next to the elevator and we heard the elevator cables smacking against the walls all night.
We called the manager to inform him of all the above. He said he could not refund our night's stay since we were staying on DVC points and asked what he should do. I asked him to do whatever he felt was right. He would not commit to anything so I asked to change rooms and a dinner would be nice.
He switched us to concierge for the remaining two nights with no dinner. (By the way concierge at Disneyland Hotel is no where near that of Animal Kingdom Lodge)The concierge room was smaller than our standard view room and also next to an elevator.
Should I let it go? Is it not that big of a deal to get sent to someone else's rooms

It never happened at Disney, but last Spring Break in the Bahamas we walked in on a couple, who were unpacking. It was awkward.

At WDW we have been given keys to an occupied room once, and keys to dirty rooms and I mean dirty (the people must have just left) numerous times.

Happened to us at BWV on Thanksgiving Day last year. We were given a room that just wasn't acceptable. So, we asked to be assigned a different room. They gave us new room keys and off we went. I put the key in, opened the door and saw toys and clothes all over the place!! Shut the door quietly and back down to the desk we went. The manager evidently didn't believe us as he had to check it out for himself. Yep, it was occupado!! He was mortified. They assigned us a different villa. In addition, they gave us a credit on our room tab. I tried to tell him that wasn't necessary at all. It seems that the family that was still in the room had decided to stay another night and for some reason no one knew.

It does happen at probably every hotel.

Yes, it does.... mistakes do happen.

Reminds of a time when a dear friend of mine got me a villa at his very exclusive resort. I was surprised to find him still at work when I arrived late in the evening, and he shared that they had had some service issues lately and he was working late to try and fix the problems.

Well, I headed off to my villa.... you guessed it..... not occupied, but looked like the room attendant had gone for lunch and forgotten to ever come back! I went to the desk for a room move, and never told him since it happens everywhere.

I've also had guests try and walk in on me while the door was deadbolted. One family spent about 10 minutes pounding on the door as if they expected me to leave THEIR room. They finally left when security arrived! :goodvibes (That WAS at a WDW hotel)

Yes - a family was checked into "our room" in FL (not Disney). DH was with us on that trip and he went outside and explained that we had been there for a few days. I was glad it wasn't a trip with just my dd's and I. The family was very nice and ended up next door and the kids became friendly.

Since then -
I always put the inside security latch over the door when we are in the room and never leave anything of value out. Even if the houskeeping is already done and we are at the food court for just 10 minutes everything still goes into the safe.

I am also very careful when entering my room for the first time and when its just my dd's and I, we always use a bellman.

Hopefully this is a warning to us all - glad things worked out ok.

I got my room at CSR at 7:)) in the morning. Went over and woke up the poor family who was already in there.

Mistakes happen. If anyone is entitled to compensation, it would be the people you walked in on. I would be more mad if I was them. I don't understand why people don't bolt their doors when they are in the room.

I agree. I would have been more upset to be the one walked in on. I'm not sure if they knew they had been intruded on or not. I told the desk they had better send"an amenity" their way too.

This has happened to us at two different hotels, but neither time was at a Disney hotel. The difference is that we were not given any compensation either time, and did not even receive an apology the first time.

Never had it happen at Disney, but a couple of times at other hotels ..... I would expect it can happen any where. Don't understand WHY and certainly don't like it, but it doesn't seem to be unusual. As others have said, I would be much more upset if I were the one who was intruded upon.

I've also learned that if something isn't right with a room, speak with someone right then......... ie, if the room is noisy, ask to be moved. The housekeeper might not have been able to read your note in English, or might not have been able to read at all.

Oh, that is crazy! I don't know what I'd do! It's never happened to me but once I was outside of a restaurant waiting for my friend in the car and this little boy about 7 or 8 jumped in the back seat of my car started putting on his seatbelt and talking to me a hundred miles an hour never looking at me. About 5 min. later he asks why we aren't moving and then he looks up and sees me. I about died laughing. Poor kid was so embarrassed! He said sorry a thousand times and got out of my car quicker than I've ever seen anyone get out of a car. This stuff happens. Mistakes happen. We're only human. I'd probably tell the people I was walking in on that we were offered a discount if we shacked up with someone else. :teeth:

The upsetting thing to me is the number of people who shower, and or go to bed and do not put the security lock on thier door, that is just foolish as this story only supports.

I always keep that metal bar across because this is very common in the hotel industry. It's happened to us before (not Disney) and I know mistakes just happen. I've never complained.

Your mousekeeper probably did not read English which is why she did not remove the can. Many of them are not fluent.

Happened to us a couple of years ago at OKW. It was our first night in a 2 bedroom and someone tried to get in. He unlocked the door but the bar stopped the door from opening. My DS was yelling "Someone's trying to get in" and the the fellow had his hand in trying to get the bar off, which he could not do. I got to the door and saw the young fellow with bags outside the door and told him the room was already occupied. He appologized and left. I called the front desk and was told "There is no way we'd give a room key card to a room already taken". I beg to differ.

It can happen anywhere. That is why one should always bolt the door when in the room, so no room keys will work.

Happened to us last weekend at Pop Century - someone was in the room in the shower. Front desk said they were supposed to be out that morning.

It happened to us at BC this past summer. Two people were taking an afternoon nap. Luckily they weren't doing anything else or I'd have alot of explaining to do to my kids.

I have to ask a question here. When we had our BWV experience on Thanksgiving Day last year, the manager told us, before he went himself to see if there really were people in the room, that housekeeping had that villa down as cleaned and ready to be occupied. So, does anyone know if housekeeping does have a 'punch list' that they keep of what rooms are ready to go? THat would make sense to me. But, in our case, these people were 'supposed' to be checked out that morning. I mean it was now 4:20 and we had been moved from 'pillar to post' so to speak. How could they not realize that someone had not checked out that was supposed to have?? I really think the manager was just trying to cover their 'collective butts'. I really didn't see any need to be comped a credit on our room charge. The thing I was crazed about was that we had 5:30 PSs at Chef Mickeys for Thanksgiving dinner!!! The manager did have a CM drive us there, but the kid took the wrong turn and headed away from MK!!! We made it to dinner with about 2 minutes to spare!!
So, how can they not realize that someone has not checked out?? Does this mean that I can now just stay until I feel good and ready to leave? I don't think so.
