We had planned a last minute trip last week, as my new wife was offered a job in Kissimmee. And I mean last minute, we booked on the 13th for arrival on the 19th. Although we had AP's this new Best Rate Program screwed us, so we couldn't use any AP discount (that program is soooo dumb). Our conformation arrived tuesday afternoon, and thankfully i had it.
the front desk CM, Vinny (very nice guy), wasn't able to find our ressie at all. :earseek: after about 5 minutes of playing around on the computer, he asked his manager for assistance, who immediately noticed the date . . . Oct 19, 2006. CRO had put in the wrong date. I know that the error wasn't on my end when making the ressie b/c the CRO CM was jokingly giving me grief about planning such a last minute trip. After playing around on the computer some more, we were upgraded into a king bed room in the 90's building.
although the map says you should walk around a bunch of buildings to get from th busses to the 90's and vice-versa, its about 5 minutes shorter just to cut across the parking lot.
we walked through our door to find our room was actually a smoking room, and we are two non-smokers. we didn't want to put Vinny through any more trouble since we were only there for 3 nights, so we delt with it for the first night, and left a note for mousekeeping seeing if they could do anything to try to remove the faint odor that was still there. we were just expecting some air freshener, but our mousekeeper changed all the linens and put in an air purifier.
the food courts was decent. the frozen coke by the soda machines was a pleasant suprise. i just didn't like how the retail was right next to the food area. it seemed a little cramped.
busses ran well. it was only 5 minutes to MGM, 15 to AK (with a stop at Blizzard Beach), and DTD was about the same.
Overall, POP was nicer than the All Stars, and good for a place if you need to just sleep. But after our last trip when we stayed at the Poly (it was our wedding so we had to splurge), we realized that we're totally monorail resort snobs.
we'll probably stay at POP again in 3 weeks when we hafta go apartment hunting again. mainly b/c we'll be stuck paying rack rate again. :(

Well, it was kinda funny. I am sorry you got a smoking room. I hope you can get a non-smoking room the next time. Just think, soon you can pay resident rates for a room. :cool1:
