We went this morning, it was lots of fun! We went shortly after opening, so it wasn't too crowded (and the crowds were light today, which was nice).

We spent close to an hour, and there was still tons of stuff that we didn't do. Structurally, it was still pretty much the same as I remember TSI being (though it has been a few years since I've been).

We didn't go exploring into too many caves, because the first one that we went into was too dark and scary for DD, so she wanted to stay outdoors. Everything was really fun and interactive - things talked and made noises when you touched them, and they had different places where you could move things to make special effects happen. Very fun.

Up on the front of the island, where the Fantasmic! stage is, there is a little stage set up with a treasure chest and a cannon that you can look at. I think the cannon was roped off, but you could touch the treasure chest (though you couldn't open it). Then at certain times, a group of pirates comes out and sings, and then that segues into the pirate show, which is cute, though I didn't think the Jack Sparrow in the show was all that convincing.

The rafts still look the same, except they have pirate flags on the top now. All of the CM's on the island are dressed like pirates, and they speak in character, like pirates. They hand out maps of the island that look like treasure maps, and DD had a lot of fun consulting her map to try to find Jack Sparrow (which was the highlight of our whole trip). We found him over near the fort, and they had a whole area for him complete with piles of treasure. He was really great - funny and entertaining, and he really reminded me of Johnny Depp. He was great with the kids, and made all of them laugh. He stole the mickey mouse ears off the boy in front of us, and kept putting them on and posing. He drew a treasure map in DD's autograph book, and then he took her map of the island and pocketed it. It was very cute.

I'm uploading pics right now, I will share some as soon as they are ready! Also pirate related, when I took DD on PotC, a CM came up to us and asked if she wanted to be Captain of her boat, and she said yes, so he took her to the front of the line and gave her a pirate flag to wave on the ride. We got to sit in the front row, and they gave her a pirate tattoo. That, plus meeting Jack Sparrow totally made her day!

I am soooooooooo excited to see your pictures. Its nice to know that there is positive feed back with the island. Im happy you really enjoyed yourself.

We felt the same way, we didn't much care for the Jack Sparrow in the show. We didn't see any other Jack's on the island (even though we did find the treasure) - was it the same Jack in the show or the other Jack that is usually around Disneyland? I think the one that is usually there is much better at impersonating Jack Sparrow than the one in the show!

The one we met is the one that's usually wandering around. We've seen him around before, but he's always walking somewhere, so this was the first time we've met him.

I can't wait to see it in person on my August trip.

Its funny how every time the cannon goes off, everyone on the mainland freaks out. :P

So what you're saying is that you have been stationed somewhere near the cannon in recent days? Hmmmm....perhaps I should have been paying more attention to the vendors today!

Totally cool!:thumbsup2 I heard about the change and figured it would be the same old with cast members in pirate garb but that looks totally fun! Can't wait to go (22 days) and see Cpt. Jack. Your daughter is adorable in her Minnie dress.:cutie: Thanks for posting the pics.

I have a quick question does the Pirate's Lair at DL have anything like the hidden paintbrush that they have at TSI in WDW??

Those pics are great! I am disappointed that we didn't get to go. But it gives me something else to look forward too when we go back! Which will hopefully be sooner than later :thumbsup2

where was the pirate skeleton laying in the water?? I have the pics of the one hanging onto the chest, but didn't see the one laying in the water. ..

The one laying in the water was right next to it. There's a boat in the water, and a pump next to it, and if you use the pump, the water drains out of the boat and the skeleton appears.
