Okay I am trying to decide on going with the same UY for a resale or same resort?? I would like the pefect resale with BOTH, but I could be shopping for a longgggggggggg time. Any suggestions?

For me it was the resort and "deal" before UY although if there are 2 similar contracts and 1 had my UY I would go for UY and resort(even if 1 came with banked points and the other did not) Having the same UY makes booking and keeping track of points easier. I have several contracts 3 @ BLT all Aug UY and 2 SSR contracts 1 Aug UY and 1 Oct UY. I am still trying to figure it out but so far so good! The Oct SSR contract was too good to pass up with 2009, 2010 and 2011 points price was good. I am also using these points to book ressie for our teen/adult kids (20, 19 and 16)

Only you can decide what's more important. Do you need additional points to book a longer reservation at your favorite resort which you already own? Tired of studios and moving up to 1 bedrooms? Do you have a second favorite resort where you want to guarantee a 11 month advantage? Maybe you don't care where you stay and the least expensive resort is fine at 7 months?

:earsboy: Bill

I would get the same use year first, so you only have one member number, but it sure would be nice to find the same resort, too. Still, if you have the same use year, member services treats all contracts under that member number as one contract, unless you are making reservations 11 months out. Once you get to 7 months, all the points are the same again. If the 11 month window is the most important thing to you, then buy that. As a person with several use years, I wouldn't recommend doing that, it becomes needlessly complex when trying to make reservations.

My choice would be first uy and try to find a contract from there. Keep us posted so we can congratulate you. Good luck and happy hunting :)

When we added on the same UY was very important to us. We waited for the right contract to come along with everything we wanted, Price, UY, and banked points.

All of our contracts have the same use year, but are at 4 different resorts. I would stick with the same use year, you will only have one membership number. If you like your home resort, and don't care about the 11 month window at another resort, just buy more points at your home resort. It does get confusing keeping up with the points at 4 different resorts - making sure MS pulls the right points for reservations (can be challenging at times). Things would be easier with only 1 home resort and 1 use year.

Keeping the same UY was the most important issue for us. We own 3 resorts and it's nice to log into one account and be able to monitor my usage all within one account. Plus at the 7 month window I can combine all of the points into one group. While monitoring 3 11 month windows and usage can take some strategy, it's still pretty easy. The only thing you have to watch is if you only one to use a certain home's points during the 7 month window, then you have to remember to tell the CM that you are using your XXX points for that reservation. With us our biggest account is SSR, so we often use those at the 7 month window, while we use our BLT and BWV at the 11 month windows to reserve standard rooms. Having separate UYs means having more than one account and having to transfer or monitor 2 different accounts sounds like more work than I'm willing to take on. Yes, it does take a while when shopping for that perfect purchase, but when it's right, you'll know. I started looking for another add on for BWV and it took me 6 months, but I finally found one with the same UY and the price and points I wanted.

If it were me, I'd wait for a contract that has both the same resort and use year. Might take longer, but it would be the easiest to manage and it seems that resale prices have still not hit bottom, so maybe waiting a bit won't be all that bad.

In the meantime, I'd be hanging out at the Rent/Trade Board looking for points to transfer into my account when needed - again, wanting the same use year and resort (because the 11 month window is very important to me).

But as Bill said, it's really all about what is important to you! Good luck with your search.

I think that is what we will do. If it so tempting to just get more points and not think things through clearly. It would have to be a super deal for me to not get my same UY at least.

We just bought a different resort and went with a different UY, but only because we ended up getting a bigger contract to make up for not being able to combine points for a single stay for our trips. I knew what I wanted the BWV points for and made sure that the contract was big enough to meet our needs.

I believe in your case, where you are looking for smaller contracts, waiting for the same UY is very important as it could put you in a borrowing or transfer situation more often than you want, especially if you go with different resort.

Good luck!

We are thinking of adding on points too. I have a June use year at AKL.

Just for clarification....If I buy on the resale market and purchase more points at AKL with the same use year I would be able to use just my member number now. Or is this only if you purchase directly through Disney?

Not sure exactly what you are asking....

If you buy on the resale market....and everything goes well.....it might take up to 45 days or even longer to get those points added to your current acct. If you buy direct with Disney that is done in a matter of days if that. Is that what you meant???

When you purchase resale with the same UY it's possible to have that contract added on to an existing membership. You must have the deed titled exactly as your current one. And let your agent and closing company know that you are already a current member and would like this contract added on to that membership. It wouldn't hurt to contact DVC either when closing although I've never done that and have had several resales successfully added on to the current membership.

:thumbsup2 Thanks that was what I was asking. :goodvibes

Don't get me wrong, two UYs is not horrible, but I would not do it again. We had Aug and Dec UYs, and right before Disney changed the rules with resale purchases, we sold the Aug UY contracts and purchased Dec UY (not solely because I wanted the same UY, but it was a factor). The same UY just makes things so much easier when making a reservation. With two UYs, it's like you're two separate people to Disney. You have to book certain nights with one contract, then they have to go to your other contract and book the other nights. In addition, if a night is 30 points and you want to use 15 from one UY and 15 from another, the only way to do it is to transfer. You're only allowed 1 transfer per UY (in or out). Toward the end, I would call and transfer all of my Aug UY points into my Dec UY contract just so I could lump them together at the 7 month mark. Again, not horrible, I just wouldn't do it again.

As for multiple resorts, we have two (OKW and Vero). We wanted to have enough points to book a week at VB every other year, and an OKW grand villa for a week annually (looking toward the future). So when we repurchased, we bought all OKW contracts. Otherwise, I would have probably purchased points at OKW, SSR and BCV. We still may buy BCV points in the future, but I'm going to see how we do with the points we have before we purchase more.

Good luck with your decision. :thumbsup2 We went through the same thing, and it wasn't an easy decision for us either. I still (sometimes) second guess it, but only where we purchased points. I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt, though, that I would pay more per point to keep the same UY or wait on a contract that's the same UY. Now how much more is debatable , but I would pay more.

Im torn! was thinking about same use year and resort, then the possibility of GFV came along!!!

Well hubby caved three days into looking at resales online. LOL Today I got an email about some newly listed contracts and VWL was on there and he said CALL NOW and GET IT!!!:lmao: SO if we make it through ROFR we will have a Sept. UY and our other contracts are Oct. I am hoping it will be easier to remember everything with the UY so close to each other. I think we will probably do the bank/borrow on the VWL contract.

You'll be fine. Like I said, it's truly not horrible. If the rule of one transfer per year still applies (it seemed to when I had two UYs, because MS always reminded me of it! :headache:) then I'd consider moving all my Sept points to my Oct UY. You'll be able to combine them any way you want to at the 7 month mark and won't have to worry about the other member ID or linking reservations.

Congrats on your new contract and good luck passing ROFR! :thumbsup2 I :cloud9: VWL. We haven't been there for a couple of years, and we're staying there at Christmas. I can't wait!
