We had a terrible experience at Ohana on 3-17. We have gone to Ohana every trip. It was my husbands favorite restaurant. We were traveling with my stepson and his girlfriend this trip. We really pumped Ohana up to them and ended up really embarressed.

The first problem was the service was really slow. I think half the staff called in sick. Then they actually waited on 2 tables seated after us before they came to see us. Then the restaurant was out of flatware and glasses and we were given little plastic forks and knives (butter knives) and paper cups. They informed us that they were having troubles with the diswashing/ sanitizing in the kitchen. This of course made us wonder how clean our plates were? Hmmmm.... My guests were concerned enough that they asked the waitress if the plates were cleaned. I was so embarressed! The food was good. It arrived slowly, but it was hot. I will tell you first hand you cannot cut the meat with plastic utensils. It was a joke. I ate more of the pineapple my drink came in than anything. Then dessert came with little paper plates and more plastic utensils. We just had to laugh.

Before we left I asked the server for some leis which she gave us. She was very nice but had no help at all. She was the only person doing drinks, meat, ect. I know that it was not her fault but for the money I was extremely disappointed. I can say that it is off my list for a while.

As much as it would have disappointed people, I think they should have just turned everyone away and sent them on to spend their money elsewhere. How on earth would they expect people to cut steak, etc. with little plastic knives? It has cost my family a couple hundred dollars to eat there. No matter how you look at it, that's a lot of money to not be able to cut your food and drink out of paper cups.

I am sorry that happened.

Yuck! They should have told you about the problems they were having b/f you sat down, and your pineapple drink should have been comped if/when you choose to stay. To be really nice, if you decided not to stay, they should have helped to find reservations in another restaurant.

I totally agree with the poster that stated every guest should have been told about the issues then that guest could have decided what THEY wanted to do, or closed down. One other issue to think about: If the water was not getting hot enough dishes would look clean but could carry potentially dangerous germs. Leaving soap residue well that is whole new thought and we know what can happen when soap gets into intestinal trac :(. If it were me I would have liked a choice.

Happy 2 B Me

I agree too. There's no reason to be forced to eat with plastic when you're paying that price (or using the DDP)! Its so disappointing to have such a bad experience ruin your image of a restaurant.
I've found the complaining about those types of things really does get somewhere most of the time. Restaurants want to keep your business, and will do quite a bit to make things right. Have you tried writing Disney? May be too late now, but it might help with future issues??
Sorry again. Its one of our favorites, but I would've been upset too.

I did send an email when we got home. I got the automated response telling me that I would be contacted with in 2 weeks. We will see if I actually get a response.

Had I been told about the problems before hand I would have gone somewhere else for dinner. I would rather them have been up front when I checked in. I will keep you posted!

Oh man, what a total bummer! I can't imagine trying to eat the food there with plastic utensils. Frankly, we were not wowed either. It seemed a quantity vs. quality issue. If we stay at the Poly, we would go back, but otherwise, we're in no rush.

Wow...that totally stinks. 'Ohana is one of our favorite places to dine while in WDW. I am sorry that you had such a lousy experience. I agree with the PP that the host/hostess should have told you up front about the dishwashing/sanitation issue. Then it would have been your choice whether or not to stay. They also could have offered you a ressie on another night.

We've already made our ressie in May...I hope things go off without a hitch. This just has to be a one time flub! I do hope you return to 'Ohana in the future.

Let us know when they contact you back Id love to know what they say..I feel like you should be compensated..

'Ohana is our all-time favorite restaurant at WDW as well, but we didn't have a great experience when we were there in September. I try to attribute our poor experience to the fact that the only reservation we could get was very late and while we were trying to eat (from the back dining room by the lobby...very back corner by some fake bushes), the staff was vacuuming the floors and cleaning up. Our waiter wasn't the greatest either. My niece wanted a lei and we had to ask three times before he finally brought one (and seemed aggravated about it). I'm sorry you had a poor experience also. I'm trying 'Ohana again though this September and hope we have the same great experience we have in visits past.

What a difference a day makes, we were there on 3/18, and had a great meal with real utensils. The only thing paper was DD's cup, but since she's 5 and does better with lids and straws, I had no complaints. Our ADR was at 6:40, we were seated on time, early actually since we arrived ahead of schedule. We were a bit surprised to see so many empty tables though, and that didn't change much during the course of the evening. The outer tables closest to the windows were full, but the center section easily had half of the tables empty. It was our middle DD's birthday, and she was sufficiently embarrassed with the special cupcake and all the "cousins" singing to her. The only thing. We could see lacking was the entertainment...that seemed less frequent than we've experienced before. My DD's and I have eaten there quite a few times, and its a favorite of ours, it was DH's first experience, and he enjoyed the meal. The girls were given 2 leis apiece, the oldest one is 18, and this is her fav place anywhere to eat. She of course had to post a picture of her in the lei to Facebook, just so she could tell her friends she got "lei'd" at WDW.

I received this email reply last night-

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Walt Disney World Resort. I am very sorry for the disappointing dining experience you had at
Disney?s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. Please be assured, your feedback
has been taken seriously. Our Guests? feedback allows for our continual
growth and the preservation of the magic Walt Disney dreamed about.

I would like to fully review your situation, but need a copy of your
dining receipt. If you no longer have your receipt but paid for your
purchase with a credit card, I can also review your statement reflecting
the charge you incurred. Also please make sure you include your address
as it appears on your photo ID. I will contact you once I have
completed my research.

Then it listed the contact info, ect.

I faxed my receipts and well as well as a copy of the email. I wrote on there that it was Ohana not the dinner show. I also replied to the email and told them that it was faxed.
Then I got this email-

Thank you again for contacting us at the Walt Disney World® Resort. Please be assured that we have received your original correspondence and will take note of any additional information you have just shared. We are continuing to address your message and will be in contact very soon.

I will let you know if I hear anymore.

I am astounded that they would seat and serve people with "dishwasher issues". I agree with others, they should have AT LEAST informed you, and then let you decide. To help you book reservations for another night would have been great also, although it could possibly cause more problems, because of few openings and people having their ADRs booked and planned ahead, etc. But at the price you pay, I would not have been a haapy camper. But no reason for YOU to be embarressed---not in your control.

Then their reply about Spirit of Aloha!!! Where did they get that?

I think I would have got up and left! That dinner costs way to much to be eating with plastic utensils and worrying if the plates and such were clean. We have our first ADR there next Friday for my hubby's birthday and I pray we don't experience anything like that. Sorry for your experience. :sad2:

We were also at 'Ohana on March 17, but had a very different experience. Our reservation was around 7pm and we had real plates and cups as well as real silverware. I was actually surprised that my kids all were given glass cups, even my 4 year old. Maybe they fixed the dishwasher problem before we arrived or it happened after we left.

The restaurant was busy, service was good with lots of kid entertainment.

This was our third time eating there and our best overall experience.

We were there late I think our ADR was for 8:30. I just looked at the receipt and the time on it is 21:57 (so almost 10pm) when we paid. I am so glad that your experience was good. I was praying they didn't do that all night!

What a disappointing meal! We used to LOVE Ohanas...ate there every trip unil last year. The service and food has gone downhill since they changed the menu (I want those chips back!!) I love the atmosphere and figure that's why it's consistently booked every night. Hope you get a decent response back!

One bad experience that sounds like it was due to a mechanical breakdown shouldn't ruin a restaurant for you. The service issue would make me more upset than the washer breaking down and I would have asked for a manager right away. In fact when we were there last fall our server was awful so after the first round of goodies (drinks, breads, and I think the veggies they bring...) I asked for a manager and asked for a different server. I wasn't going to have my dinner with my honey ruined because someone was in a bad mood and boy was he in a bad mood! Our night there ended with another guest getting very nasty with me because I nicely, very very nicely asked him to sit down or at least bend down in front of the window when he ran over at the last minute with his child and thought he could just stand in front of everyone watching the fireworks. It got very ugly, they had to call security there and at his hotel because he was so nasty and drunk, and it ruined the night but I will still go back to 'Ohana's. :goodvibes
