Part 4 - AK, the snake and the killer bees
Today is our AK day. It's not am EMH so in-laws are relieved when I tell them we don't have to be on the bus stop until 8:15 - I think they are starting to think I'm a Disney nazi!
Luckily YC is always the first stop, but unlike MK bus where we only stopped at BC, the AK bus stops at YC, BC, BWI and Swan and Dolphin. This takes some time but we get to AK just before opening. It is really crowded. Luckily everyone seems headed to EE and since our kids are too small we're headed for the safari. Now last time we did the safari it was later in the morning and we didn't see many animals. Thanks to tips on the DIS boards I am determined to do the safari as early as possible so we head right there. There is only about a 5-10 minute wait and we're on. It was great - we saw tons of animals this time - thanks DIS! Then we got off and did the Pagani exploration trail. Of course now the kids were starving (and DFIL too) so we stopped at the fruit market - go some nourishment (I had a really nice fruit and cheese plate) and we're ready to go. We decide to see if we can make the Lion King Show. We barely make it in before the show starts (missed the usual pre-show entertainment). Lion King is one of my family's favorites and the in-laws were thrilled. MIL made the same comment I think everyone makes after seeing it for the first time - it's like a Broadway show. We had a fast pass for Kali River so we decided to do that before lunch. Now if anyone was at AK on July 14th and saw a normal family with a grandmother wrapped up in ponchos as if she was going to an actual rainforrest deluge that would be us! My MIL was completely paranoid about getting her hair wet so I gave her a poncho that I keep in the stroller and let her knock herself out. We were all laughing at her and watching her reactions. This ride is fun but I think way too short.
Now it was time for lunch and we headed to our favorite AK cs - Tusker House. We love it here and struck another homerun with the in-laws. They couldn't believe that was fast food.
Now I have to fill you in on the stroller situation. The girls were in a double stroller and ds had a Chico stroller from home. Before anyone gets on their high horse about a 5, 7 and 8 year old being in strollers - we only use them at Disney, they make my life easier so too bad! Anyway DH was pushing the double stroller and DFIL was pushing ds. Apparently DFIL had a problem with the stroller and kept hitting DH's legs. DH does not have the best sense of humor in these situations (I thought it was funny) and was snippy to DFIL about watching the stroller. DH decided to speed up and left me with the double stroller and walked ahead of us. I was still laughing at DH and telling DFIL not to worry about it - DH is a baby. When out of the blue these two "killer bees" started attacking me. They were going for my hair, my head, and my arms. DFIL and DMIL and trying to brush them away from me, I'm swatting them but trying to keep them away from the stroller, kids are getting upset because they won't go away! Everytime I think I've lost them - they're back. I'm even running with the stroller (what a sight) swatting them and trying to lose them but to no avail. In-laws cannot believe what they're watching these bees are out to get me. In the end the bees win, both of them sting me - one on the hand and the other on the arm. It was like a tag team bee team. I'm laughing now but now at the time. In-laws wanted me to go to first aid but I just wanted some ice. Stopped at one of the stands that sells the water bottles and they have me a bag of ice. I got the stingers out and was okay but mad as heck at DH - where was he. When we finally caught up to him I gave him the "look" and he knew he'd better straighten up fast. Told me the story and he felt so bad. I basically told him - thanks for all the help. You can believe he was much more helpful the rest of the day.
Next up - the snake!
