Hi! We spent 1 night at the DD Hilton before checking into our Disney hotel. I got the Hilton through Priceline for 65.00. We arrived REALLY early, we drove through the night and arrived in Orlando at 9am!! So we didn't expect our room to be ready but it was!! Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the front of the hotel with a view of tree and if you looked down a roof. It was nice and big and clean, it smelled a little stale but it was no big deal at all. We went to the pool, there were 2 large ones which weren't heated at the time. there was a kiddie pool and 2 large hot tubs. The hot tubs are secluded in landscaping and very hot and large! They were incredible after the long car ride- ahhhhhh-lol.

At night we walked down to Downtown Disney, it took us 5 minutes. Then we came back to the room and ordered papa Johns pizza for dinner, which they delivered to thebus stop for us.

Overall I give the Hilton a thumbs up, it was clean, staff was very nice and it was a great value given that we only paid 65 through Priceline. We would definitely return for the same price for a night but I wouldn't stay the whole trip just because I'm an on-site fan.

I'm thinking of staying at the Hilton or the Grosvenor on my next trip but I haven't decided yet :p

I've thought about using Priceline.com to get a room but I'm worried that I won't end up with a hotel in Downtown Disney. Thanks for the review hallie!

I don't know if you have this link yet but I figured I'd post it just in case.

Bidding for travel

When I did our bid I checked off resort hotel in the Walt Disney resort area. I've read of people getting the Dolphin for 70.00! Check out that board because they keep a running list of what hotels are popping up and on what level.

Good Luck!!!

I'm glad to hear you liked the Hilton since I just got a bid through Priceline ($60). I was hoping to get the Dolphin since we are staying there the next four nights ($70 through Priceline). I am looking forward to going over to DD for the night and I glad to hear it's only a 5 minute walk. We will be there in January I hope they have those pools heated by then:cool:

Thanks for your honest review of the the Hilton!

Thanks for the link Hallie! :p I've seen it before ... and thought about bidding, but I really want one of the downtown Disney hotels... I noticed there are two other hotels listed under the resort category which I don't think are in the downtown disney location ... so I'm hestitant because once your bid is accepted you can't change it.

I liked the Hilton, too :) It gets better reviews than the Grosvenor.

If you have to have DD, I'd skip priceline. In that category, I think there are 2 non-disney hotels. The marriott orlando world center, and the gaylord palms (which sounds beautiful). The others I've seen are swan/dolphin, the hilton & the wyndham palace. Really, for the price I think any of those are great, but it's a risk.

Hallie

Sounds as though you had a good trip. Glad to see you are back. I see you are planning another trip for a reunion. I have been trying to plan a big reunion for my mother's side of the family. I thought it wouldn't be that difficult bc most everyone lives in the midwest or east but it is hard bc everyone has different schedules. You are taking on a lot. I admire you.

I have actually attended a 50th wedding anniversary/reunion and they did sweatshirt's with the saying: "50 Years in the House of David". I think that you should do the same type of thing, maybe have everyone's signature or something and then a slogan such as above. I know that you can purchase cotton tee's and have them printed or screened for a reasonable amount of money. Also it is easier to identify the people in your party if you are all wearing the same brightly colored tee's. I was thinking about ordering everyone a bright colored polo from Land's End. (When we get around to planning a reunion in 4 years probably) Just some ideas. I am jealous bc I have had to put our plans on hold bc I am going to school for Dental Hygiene (Please everyone pray for me to finish. Next semester I am taking Organic Chem.)

In any case, I am glad to see that your family was so impressed with your planning that they designated you thier Disney travel planner/expert.

Take Care

MandaMom- Thank you so much!! That's a great idea about the T-shirts, I'll definitely look into that!

Good luck with your Organic Chem. class, you can do it!!!!

Just to let you know the Gaylord Palms is REALLY close to Disney. If you go out main exit where the new Pop Century is being built at, it's right there. I've also read a lot of great reviews about it. I *think* that the Marriot World Center is really close too, I'm almost positive we drove right past it when we took a wrong turn. That's how we found the G Palms too-lol. That is why we usually take the busses-lol.
