That RR meal looks fabulous, Brenda. I think we might have to give it a try, if just for the bread and butter pudding! And bonus liquor, how could you pass that up>>>

Another great installment Brenda :thumbsup2

Sounds like a great time over there at RR. I doubt we will make it over there anytime soon though, doesn't seem an appropriate place for little ones but if we ever get a night alone, sounds like a good choice :goodvibes

I hope things improve with your dad, Michelle. I know what it's like to worry about sick parents almost all the time.

Brenda, believe it or not RR was one of the few placed that didn't acknowledge dh's birthday. I hated to bring it to our waitress's attention since she seemed so spacey anyway. I think the CM had it on the general reservation and Spoodles and Akershus more than made up for the lack of celebration at RR. It was okay, b/c Cirque was FABULOUS before our meal!

Don't know how little your little ones are, but we saw lots of kids toddler age on up. Our dd is 7 and loved it there. It's not just for adults!

:worship: Another entertaining installment, sistah. The sangria looked good to me--a little clear, but good nonetheless. Too bad you didn't have a little bottle of schnapps in your purse to help with the potency...:rotfl:

Keep 'em coming, Bendy!:thumbsup2

Thank you kindly, Sistah! Too bad I didn't have a bottle of scotch .. that might have helped!

Loved your latest, Brenda! Those beers look SO GOOD! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading, Mel. All beer at Raglan Road is good ... I think it's a Downtown Disney law or somehing like that. ;)

Sounds like a really good meal! That bread pudding looks to die for. We're definitely going to give this place a try on a future visit to WDW. :thumbsup2

Raglan Road has never let us down - if you try it I hope you have an equally good if not better experience!

Great reviews and pictures!

Thanks very much!

So glad to read your review; this is our first night's reservation on our first trip ever to WDW!

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a terrific trip and a great meal at RR!

Bro loves Irish anything... I'm sure he'll be fine... ;)

Dad didn't to so well...it's going very slow... on Wednesday it will be 2 weeks in ICU... They hope to move him later this week. Prognosis is guarded...

Sorry to hear your dad isn't doing we well as you'd hoped. Sending lots of good thoughts your way.

Hey Brenda, while you were taking shelter at Pooh's, we were dining at WPE in the marketplace & taking shelter under the awning while scoffing yummy pizza with friends. Too bad I missed overhearing your silly jokes! Since you & Jay were also staying at the Grandstand section of SSR & we checked in the same day, we were bound to run into each other sooner or later...glad we did! :goodvibes

I love bread pudding, but I've never had Raglan Road's, now I know it's a must do one of these days! Great reviews as always! :thumbsup2

Hi Diane! We've heard a lot of good things about Wolfie's pizzas ... maybe we'll need to try him for dinner some night on our next trip. You might have grown tired of the bathroom humor at Pooh's place if you'd had to listen to it for 10 minutes straight ... along with lots of childish giggling, but it was fun so who cares? ;)

Raglan Road's bread pudding is really good, definitely give it a try sometime when you have a chance. :thumbsup2

Hey there! How ya been? We thought it was a great meal made better by the bounty of free booze!

Thanks for reading!

Another great installment Brenda :thumbsup2

Hi Cass! Thanks for coming over to take a read - glad you enjoyed it! As for Kira, we've seen younger kids there, even later in the evening when the band starts playing; I think a lot of it depends on how late you'd want to keep her up and whether or not she'd enjoy the atmosphere.

Well I'm glad to hear that he was treated well at other restaurants ... it's always nice to be on the receiving end of a little magic. And I'm also glad to hear that you enjoyed Cirque ... I know a lot of people rave about it so it's good to know that it lived up to the hype.

Don't know how little your little ones are, but we saw lots of kids toddler age on up. Our dd is 7 and loved it there. It's not just for adults!

Have to agree with the adult Who Girl on this one. :thumbsup2

Oh Raglan Road looks really good. Maybe one day when the kids don't go with us to WDW me and the mister will go there. The chocolate dessert looks great, bread pudding confuses me, I never had but I'll take your word for it that it's great.

Mmmmm.....that all looks tasty.
John thought your beeeeeeeeer flight was lovely as well.
Though the third one looked a little thin, for his taste, as he tends to like his beer so chunky you can eat it with a fork. :thumbsup2
You have, in a round about way, reinforced his decree that we visit Rose and Crown once, maybe twice. (I know, I know, NOT Raglan Road, but it reminded him that he likes him some fish and chips.)

Great update!

I'm still not a huge bread pudding fan ... but when it comes with sauce like this one does I usually like it more. First time I ever had bread pudding I liked was in New Orleans ... bread pudding souffle with whiskey cream sauce. :cloud9: And the whiskey wasn't the only reason I liked it. :lmao:

You can always do what I do ... if your husband likes bread pudding then he can order it and you can try it while still ordering your own dessert. If you do like it then you've got two desserts. :rolleyes1

Oh I didn't even think about how much your hubby would like the beer selection at Raglan Road. You must take him there some day. And he will enjoy our Rose & Crown review later because we did a beer sampler there, too!

We like R&C just as much as Raglan Road ... they share good beer and good food in common - two of our favorite things!

I hope things improve with your dad, Michelle. I know what it's like to worry about sick parents almost all the time.

Thanks... it's been a journey this time... I think we owe the ICU nurses one incredible fruit basket this Xmas... ;)

Don't know how little your little ones are, but we saw lots of kids toddler age on up. Our dd is 7 and loved it there. It's not just for adults!

Thats good to know... relaxing place to bring the kids...or not... :rolleyes1

I think the Whiskey flights probably help... did with MY teething way back when (or so my mother tells me... ;) )

As is the case with many WDW restaurants, the DIS-opinions about Raglan Road are mixed at best, but our opinion has always been two thumbs up. This was our third visit to Raglan Road and we enjoyed it just as much this time around as we did on our first visit two years ago. We always book a late ADR for dinner so that we can enjoy the band while we stuff our faces. An 8:30 reservation shouldn't be difficult to make when you're staying at a resort directly across the lake from the restaurant ... unless it rains or something.

And I was so close to the band stage when I went, I was hoping I'd get out of there before they came to play and drown out any conversation I was having with my friends.

**Cue sudden rainstorm**

It's like this: Jay and I are those people who don't buy ponchos and we always fail to bring an umbrella on vacation ... that's just inviting bad weather and since when do we need to worry about rain at WDW in October, anyway?

I had an umbrella AND a poncho packed; No rain at all during my trip. A first for me!

As an aside, patrons and CMs alike at Pooh's stall were no doubt very pleased by our departure since all we did was make childish poop jokes while waiting for the rain to ease up. The best perhaps was wondering aloud if we could purchase a Pooh Pooh Platter. :lmao:

Color me immature. I would have been making those jokes, too.

Right away I ordered my favorite Raglan Road drink: Jay'Gail Sangria or as they used to call it way back in 2006 ... Celtic Sangria.

Tart, fruity goodness from your friends in Ireland
20.jpg

Looks a little weak, doesn't it? This wasn't nearly as good as it has been in years past ... still tasty but definitely lacking that "punch" that I'd grown accustomed to. Sometimes the bartender just isn't up to snuff when it comes to mixology. For the curious among you, the drink is described as follows on Raglan Road's specialty drink menu: a refreshing blend of Strongbow Cider, Peach Schnapps, fruit liquors, and squeezes. I'm still waiting to find out what the heck a "squeeze" is when it comes to this drink. :confused3

Yes, looks like a very transparent drink. I like the "squeeze" thing. "I'm gonna hug him and squeeze him and call him George".

Mmmm, beer times four!
21.jpg

From near to far in the above picture: Strongbow Cider, Smithwicks, Tucher Hefe Weisen, and Guinness.

This was our own creation. Raglan Road now offers a third option for beer flights which is the "create-yer-own-beery-goodness" sampler or The Cream of the Crop. They also still offer two pre-selected beer flights if you don't want to have to make your own decision ... all for the bargain price of nine dollars.

The only member of our sampler that we'd never tried previously was the Strongbow and we liked it quite a bit ... it's a little sweet but refreshing and light, something that I could definitely see us drinking during the hot, sultry Stinktown summer months.

Wow, you never tried Strongbow? That's at Rose and Crown, too.

And then our appetizer showed up, something we've ordered before but which we think pairs ever-so-well with lots of beer.

The Dalkey Duo
22.jpg

We love these little snausages, which are dipped in batter and then deep fried. Ahhh, artery clogging goodness with a side dish of spicy mustard. They can be a little on the greasy side, but that's why we wash them down with beer. We took a picture of a sliced open dalkey dog to give everyone a better idea of what they're made of ... smallish sausages and lots of batter - double yum!

Those snausages look great, but I'd have to share for sure. I haven't tried the scallop forest for the same reason.

For my dinner I always order the fish and chips ... it's something that I can't really get here at home unless I eat at Long John Silvers and I'm not even sure that qualifies as real fish.

Maybe this should be called Chips and Fish?
25.jpg

When I want my fish and chip fix, I go again to the take out window next to Rose and Crown.

Jay ordered the restaurant's version of bangers and mash: Bang Bang's Bangers.

Looks like sausage and 'taters to me!
26.jpg

Here is the official description for this dish: homemade gourmet Irish sausages served over onion and mashed potatoes, then topped with a red wine onion reduction. Jason said that the mashed 'taters were smooth and creamy and in spite of the menu's claim, there was Guinness beef stew spooned over his snausage. He really liked the entire dish, saying that it was quite tasty.

Where did I have that again? Wait for it....Rose and Crown.
I'm beginning to call this Raglan Road report: Deja Food. :rotfl2:

At this point we were out of all beverages and growing thirsty. We always drink a lot of water with our meals, especially if alcohol is involved, and our waitress was a little remiss in refilling our glasses. Once we flagged her down and reminded her she was better about keeping the water spicket open. Her service overall was pretty good although I have to admit that I found it a bit odd to be called sweetie by someone who was obviously younger than me.

The sweetie thing is also ok if the waitress has a beehive and snaps her gum. Kiss my grits. ;)

Jay and I chose a Single Malt Scotch flight that had two scotches we'd never tried before. When the waitress came back about five mintues later with our flight she started naming the booze and then I stopped her, saying that I didn't think that it was correct ... that we'd ordered a different sampler. She went back to the bar to check and then came back with a sheepish smile on her face. She'd put the order in correctly but the bartender read it wrong and rather than pouring us the Single Malt Flight that we wanted, he'd poured an Irish Whiskey Flight.

End result?

Our waitress told us to enjoy an Irish Whiskey sampler on the house! :cool1:

A few minutes later she came back with the Scotch sampler we'd ordered and said she hoped we'd be able to walk out under our own power once we were finished. She obviously didn't know with whom she was speaking, did she? ;)

Only you can manage to get free booze due to server error. :thumbsup2

There was a noticeable difference between the two flights. The Irish whiskeys were much harsher; when Ralph Wiggum says "it tastes like burning" I think he is referring to Irish whiskey. The Scotch flight was much more to our preference and all three samples were smooth and clean tasting with no mouth-burn. Our favorite was the Oban 14-year, which we ended up ordering later in the trip one night with dessert.

Sounds like I'd want to try the Obi Wan Kenobe thing if I had the nerve. ;)

And speaking of dessert, we were total pigs and ordered two because I wanted to try something new. Jay opted for the traditional Raglan Road dessert, Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding which is served with Butterscotch and Creme Anglaise Sauces.

Stuff yer face with that!
33.jpg

Still as good as we remember it ... this was warm and sweet and chock full o' raisins. And the mix of both sauces poured over it ... this sort of devilish combination should be outlawed. I'm not typically a big fan of bread pudding but this is one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. If you dine at Raglan Road save room for the bread pudding - it's that good!

There's a reason I liked Jay. He has great taste in dessert ordering (well, at Raglan Road at least. I still don't know what his Mystery Dessert was at Todd English's bluezoo™). I won't order anything other than this bread pudding at Raglan Road.

The new dessert that we decided to try was called Triple Your Pleasure. It was three different chocolate desserts: White Chocolate Mousse, Dark Chocolate Mousse, and a little Chocolate Shake.

Needs more chocolate!
32.jpg

I thought this was really good, especially with the scotch! I've said it before and I'll say it again ... scotch and chocolate are a win-win combination. As for the actual desserts ... the white chocolate mousse had a great flavor and was very light, but the texture was a little gritty and that made it hard to enjoy. The dark chocolate mousse was very good although more thick than a mousse should be in my opinion. My favorite was the shake, which was cold and thick and full of milk chocolate-y goodness.

Believe it or not, I'd still go for the bread pudding over this dessert!

Give Raglan Road a try if you have the chance - good food, good music, and good times!

If I make it to Downtown Disney next trip. I haven't stepped foot in DTD since my trip last year. Wasn't any reason to do so with the AC closed.

Great review. :thumbsup2 The band at Raglan Road sounds pretty cool. I love Celtic music, but not sure if there would be much there I would eat.

I stay away from the Dis for a week and look how much I miss. Your TR has started off great! I LOVE the notion of sneaking those wee bottles of booze onto the plane. There's just that toiletries vs. liquor dilemma to deal with.

Raglan Rose looks very yummy. I may have to try it if I make it to Downtown Disney on my next trip. I like Irish-style pubs. We have one here that is known for serving more Jameson than any other establishment in the world (including Ireland). It is a beautiful pub and they have ok food, but no snausages!

It seems as though we need to make a stop at RR on our May trip. Randy went there for a beer or two in June (before I flew down to meet him) and he loved the atmosphere. I think we might even take the kids, our oldest is learning to play the violin, loves Celtic music and wants to fiddle. Our youngest will be dancing right along. As for me, anything that is a reminder of my days at my favorite Irish bar in Boston is good for me. Great installment!

As usual, the desserts really caught MG's eye. Is there a restaurant at WDW that serves only desserts? If so, count me in B.

Thanks for the silent desk giggles again. Much appreciated. :)

(My smilies aren't working today).

The bread pudding is amazing. Just might be the best dessert I've ever eaten!

Great review of Raglan Road. I also had the JayGail Sangria there earlier this month and mine was also much weaker than it was last year. To be fair though, you probably didn't need a strong drink considering all the booze you still had to come!

Brenda; Yeah, I've finally caught up! (the hospital is supposed to have wifi-yeah, right.) Anyhoo, thank you so much for the postcards- the monsters love them! They still reread them everyday, too cute (really, after they're sleeping and I've had a Bailey's, I think it's cute, anyway.) So looking forward to reading more- can't wait to hear about the smackdown!
Nicole

My hubby is Scottish and loves Scotch (go figure). I called him over as I read your review of Raglan Road. I think he drooled on my head when I mentioned the 14 year old.

I had an umbrella AND a poncho packed; No rain at all during my trip. A first for me!

Yeah yeah yeah ... rub it in. ;) This just reinforces our belief that we should never visit WDW prior to October 15th.

Color me immature. I would have been making those jokes, too.

That's why I like you so much - you'd have joined right in the poop-fest. :lmao:

Yes, looks like a very transparent drink. I like the "squeeze" thing. "I'm gonna hug him and squeeze him and call him George".

Wow, it's like you're reading my mind.

Wow, you never tried Strongbow? That's at Rose and Crown, too.

Never had a reason to try it before. We're not really cider people, whether it's alcoholic or not. But this was good ... I think it would be a great summer drink.

Those snausages look great, but I'd have to share for sure. I haven't tried the scallop forest for the same reason.

When I want my fish and chip fix, I go again to the take out window next to Rose and Crown.

One of the reasons we order the Dalkey is because it's listed as an appetizer for two. I think it would be way too much for just one person to eat.

I agree - the fish and chips are definitely better at R&C and Harry Ramsden's fishie joint, but this wasn't bad as an alternative.

The sweetie thing is also ok if the waitress has a beehive and snaps her gum. Kiss my grits. ;)

Old lady waitresses don't like me very much ... I'm too asky ... er, requestitive ... ummmm, demanding! ;)

Only you can manage to get free booze due to server error. :thumbsup2

Heh heh heh ... I only wish it happened more frequently. :lmao:

Sounds like I'd want to try the Obi Wan Kenobe thing if I had the nerve. ;)

It's really good. The next time we get to meet up for food and such we'll order some if it's available and you can take a taste (with dessert, of course!).

There's a reason I liked Jay. He has great taste in dessert ordering (well, at Raglan Road at least. I still don't know what his Mystery Dessert was at Todd English's bluezoo™). I won't order anything other than this bread pudding at Raglan Road.

I think the bread pudding is a better dessert, too; I just wanted to try something different since we had that gift card to blow through. And we blew through it all right! I'll have to check with Jay about his dessert ... I think it was the banana-ey thing. And DTD isn't the same without PI ... it's really kind of sad.

Great review. :thumbsup2 The band at Raglan Road sounds pretty cool. I love Celtic music, but not sure if there would be much there I would eat.

Thanks for reading! The band is awesome, that's for sure. Raglan Road does have a lot of heavier / comfort food type items on their menu, but they also have soups and salads. Or maybe you could just go for a drink and dessert some evening?

I stay away from the Dis for a week and look how much I miss. Your TR has started off great! I LOVE the notion of sneaking those wee bottles of booze onto the plane. There's just that toiletries vs. liquor dilemma to deal with.

Thanks for coming over to check out what we've posted ... so far. And we don't have to worry about the toiletries because we check those in our luggage. No sweat!

And if you like Irish-style pubs then you must try RR ... I think you'd enjoy it quite a bit!

As for me, anything that is a reminder of my days at my favorite Irish bar in Boston is good for me. Great installment!

Then you should definitely go there and take the kids - it's a really fun atmosphere. We've seen customers get up and dance jigs before and we've joined in on sing-alongs. It's a hoot!

As usual, the desserts really caught MG's eye. Is there a restaurant at WDW that serves only desserts? If so, count me in B.

Thanks for the silent desk giggles again. Much appreciated. :)

(My smilies aren't working today).

Hiya Nancy! Thanks for reading and there are several places you could go just for dessert. I'll be happy to tell you all about them before the cruise next year ... come spend a day at WDW with us! :cool1:

The bread pudding is amazing. Just might be the best dessert I've ever eaten!

It is fabulous, isn't it? Although I still think Commander's Palace Bread Pudding Souffle w/Whiskey Cream Sauce may be the best dessert I've ever had.

Ever.

Great review of Raglan Road. I also had the JayGail Sangria there earlier this month and mine was also much weaker than it was last year. To be fair though, you probably didn't need a strong drink considering all the booze you still had to come!

Thanks for reading! I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who noticed a difference in the Sangria. It just didn't have as good a flavor as it used to - it was almost watery. Bah! I can maker a better Sangria at home with my eyes closed. ;)

Brenda; Yeah, I've finally caught up! (the hospital is supposed to have wifi-yeah, right.) Anyhoo, thank you so much for the postcards- the monsters love them! They still reread them everyday, too cute (really, after they're sleeping and I've had a Bailey's, I think it's cute, anyway.) Nicole

Hey there Nicole! Hope everything is going OK for you and the family. So glad to know the postcards arrived and the kids enjoyed them ... seems like half the postcards I mail from WDW never get to where they're supposed to be, so it's nice to know you got yours.

Thanks for reading!

My hubby is Scottish and loves Scotch (go figure). I called him over as I read your review of Raglan Road. I think he drooled on my head when I mentioned the 14 year old.

Bwaaaahahahaha! :lmao: I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh but the mental image of your hubby drooling over the top of your head while you read food porn was just too amusing. Thanks for stopping by to read, Ann; hope to see more of you around the thread this time. :goodvibes

BTW - that Oban was awesome! We can't wait to buy a bottle to savor here at the house!
