We shaved the cat last night

Now I KNOW I'm not the only one with a tainted mind :lmao:

Before I posted this I said "Wait a minute, folks are probably going to take the title the wrong way. Then I said, NAh no one reads into things like I do." Obviously I was.............WRONG :rotfl2:

Yeah My DF and I shaved the "kitty" last night. You know him coming at me with those clippers kind of freaked me out, but I looooooove the end result! The brazilian really works for me and he loves it ;) :rotfl:

BTW way off topic but I'm lovin the new tags. I live in my rainbows too! I just love how they mold to my feet. Everyone on the east side of NC wears them so you'll see them in stores when you go to Duke
Hey now, I'm a western NCer and live in my rainbows. I desperately need a new pair, but I've gone cheap and don't want to pay for them. They're in a lot of stores here, but I remember when they were only in 1 store in Raleigh...That changed like overnight it seemed. I need the normal ones-I have the girl fit and I like the boy fit better.

ANYWAY-Glad you guys got that done. I know it's tough. Our vet used to do our kitty's belly when she was getting old and couldn't take care of things anymore. It was just a normal tabby (not a maine coon) but brushing just didn't take care of it.

We have a Ragdoll. We get her shaved twice a year (it helps that my husband's cousin is a groomer) it has nothing to with laziness on our part, I try to brush her and she wants no part of it. She has a real problem with hairballs. We have tried everything and the grooming is the only thing that seems to help. She is so funny she hops around after she gets shaved. She looks like a bunny.

I'm afraid it would require the use of another word for cat that starts with P and won't make it past the censors! :lmao:

Ohhh just stop pussyfooting around the subject and make your joke.

:lmao:

jk. ;)

On the subject... I didn't realize people regularly shaved their cats!! I could definitely see it being nice in the summer for them. We have always had short haired cats and never have needed to do much to their coats other than brush them during shedding/flea season. I think that if I ever tried to shave ANY PART of ANY of them- one of us would not live through the experience :rotfl2:

I don't think it's cruel though and I think that it could definitely be better for the cat if it's a really long haired cat.

And count me in as waiting for a pic! :wave2:

This is one of my fav pics though:

Frog and I have a persian (shadow) and even with all the brushing (which he loves btw in fact he insists by getting the brush and putting it on the bed) he still sheds and because he goes outside alot he gets matts especially under his legs and sometimes under his chin we don't try to brush these out because they are so painfull for him we cut them out with a pair of sissors he is a very docile cat so he just lays there and purrs. Now Bootsie on the other hand she is a little stinker she would put up a heck of a fight. Thankfully she is a short haired cat. I suggested to frog once that he ought to shave him because I was getting tired of sweeping up cat hair every day and having to get the lint brush to get all the hair off the furniture, he didn't care for the idea mainly because he didn't want to do it lol. Shadow is docile but I would hate to see that big cat riled up.

Well we used to have a great golden retriever named scooter who passed on. Anyway every summer against my pleas my husband used to shave the dog. Only he was an amatuer and it came out in streaks and all lumpy and uneven. Every darn time. I mean he would just ugly up the dog. I don't know why. No one could convince my husband he couldn't give the dog a good haircut. So the dog needs his nails trimmed and after I saw what he did to the dogs coat I wasn't about to let him near the dog for his nails. So I take him to the vet. Who just goes OMG. What the .... happened to your dog. I swear had my dog been a child I would of been reported he looked that bad.

So if I was a cat owner I would not be shaving anything, I guess is the moral of that story.!!! :lmao:

That cat does not look happy. I don't think I would be alive to tell the story of how I shaved my cat (if I were to, which I'm not, because I have way to many things to do before I die).

I don't think people realize that no amount of brushing takes care of these mats (my Dh does the brushing and he says he can't even get a comb/brush through some of the fine layers near the skin) - and they are so close to the skin that they are actually very painful (leaving the mats so that the cat is in pain is what is cruel) and there is also the issue of cleanliness back by their bum - these and the issues with heat are why our vet recommended that we just shave her. We do the lion type of haircut and she is adorable!

:wizard:

In all seriousness, I never realized people did this! My kitty has pretty long hair and is shedding enough to stuff a mattress at the moment. Do I just take him to the groomer and ask for a lion cut? Or do I have to take him to the vet for this? He has to be sedated for a bath so I'm guessing he'll have to be sedated for a shave as well.

If I tried to shave my cats they would find my bloodied dead body the next morning! I have to sneak up on them just to trim their nails. If any of them see me going anywhere near the drawer I keep the nail clippers in, they spread the word and everyone suddenly disappears.
:ccat:

The clippers we have at work are quiet clippers. Some of the cats still get a little antsy but it is better than with the old ones!

Here is the address, you may have to call them I do not see our clippers on their site.

Good luck!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :cool1:

You just don't know how much this helps. :thumbsup2

Baxter is a very calm and sweet kitty it was just the really loud noise that was ticking him off. He'll be so glad when his next shave comes along. Thanks again!
