we've already got four.

cats one and two are brother and sister, but from different litters, and were given to us by the mama cat's owner. cat number 3 belonged to a friend of my mother's who had more cats than she had room for, and her landlord demanded she get rid of some of them

cat number four was a tiny kitten who was dumped in the woods near our house, and somehow found his way to our deck. smart little one, he found a house with three cats and lots of cat food.

our newest addition is an orange tom we've nicknamed O'Malley. at first he'd come to the back door and look pitiful, hoping we'd feed him. then he'd come to the back door and beg for food - he'd actually scratch at the door and howl. now he's taken to sleeping at the back door. he was curled up on the deck when I came downstairs this morning.

guess we now have 5 cats. :) :)

We have had cats "adopt" us too, because we live near an area that people will "dump" the poor critters.

Hope he works out with your family.

if this keeps up, they'll outnumber us soon enough.

thank goodness for the huge tubs of Delicat at Costco.

I have 7 BR. Not only do you have 5 cats, but the next 2 that need homes on LI are yours too. I'll flip with you to see who gets #8 first. ;)

:p :p :p

we've got a mean black cat roaming the neighborhood. I hope he has a home, because I certainly don't want him in mine.

sixcats, do you get other critters? I've got raccoons that come to the back door at night, and I've also seen a possum on the deck once or twice. not to mentiion the squirrels and chipmunks. and the birds and the bats, and the owl I hear every night.and I think I even saw a fox once. they all seem to think I'm running a soup kithcen for strays and wildlife.

I've got birds, squirrels, chipmunks, coons, and possums in my yard. So far I haven't seen owls or bats. I'm really looking forward to seeing more wildlife when we start spending weekends out East. My brother has some beautiful hummingbirds out by him during the summer.

Be careful, you'll catch up to me soon.

I have 5 too, recently added #5 who was going to be put down because of a cough. Turned out that the cough was some type of mild infection that was cured with 2 weeks worth on antibiotics. She is just a black and white cat and is the sweetest thing!!

Congratulations on your new addition, I'm sure your children are thrilled, I know mine was.

:D Sounds like a good thing to me! You are obviously very good to your pets and they are spreading the word! ;)

Not every cat that finds its way to someone's home was "dumped off" by someone else. My daughter had a cat that was strictly an indoor cat. The day they got their new washer and dryer the cat came up missing. The only thing they could think of that happened was the cat snuck out when they were moving the old set outside and bringing the new set in. She never thought about shutting the cat up in the bedroom or anything, but of course after it happened she wished she would have thought of it. They never found the cat, but hopefully Cocoa found her way to someone's home...who liked cats...and took her in. :(

I really believe cats can sense if you are a "cat person" . The cat knows it is safe with you.

I think there's a sign of some sort on my back door.

the "dumping ground" is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from my house, but they wander up here anyhow.
