Police: Boyfriend Driven Into Lake
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. -- A West Bloomfield father was charged with malicious destruction of property Friday after police said he drove his teen daughter's boyfriend's vehicle into a lake after he found the two in the backseat.
Police said the Jan. 3 incident occurred on the 6400 block of Leytonstone Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m.
The man's 14-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old boyfriend allegedly drove the boy's 2010 Dodge Charger to a beach near Pleasant Lake and parked there.
The father told police that he pulled his van up alongside the Charger and saw the teens in the backseat of the car.
Police said the father lost his cool and pulled his daughter out of the vehicle and jumped in the driver's seat. He then allegedly drove the vehicle onto the icy lake and left it there -- with the boy still in the backseat.
The father allegedly left the boy in the car and drove away with his daughter.
The boy told police that he got in the front seat and tried to drive the car off the ice, but the but the front left tire had already sunk into the ice - making it impossible to move the vehicle.
The boy was still on the ice when police arrived. The teen was not injured and a tow truck pulled it out of the icy water the next day.
