we need more sit coms on tv

We enjoy Outsourced! I liked it better before any of the romance started though.

The movie focused almost entirely on the romance though, only in the movie it was between Todd and Asha instead of Todd and that blond girl whose name I forget at the moment.

Not sure why Outsourced would give anyone the creeps. It's kind of a riot "fish out of water story" (spin off of a movie by the same name, which is actually a very sweet story about Todd's learning to love another culture)

I never knew it was based on a movie?!?!?!

Not sure why Outsourced would give anyone the creeps. It's kind of a riot "fish out of water story" (spin off of a movie by the same name, which is actually a very sweet story about Todd's learning to love another culture) about two cultures clashing and the hilarity that ensures. If anyone reads anything more than that into it, they need to step back and take a deep breath and say "it's only a show".

I suppose there is an underlying story line that outsourcing jobs to India is probably not the best idea, given the cultural differences, but the BIG part of the story is that Todd is in India, trying to cope with a culture he's not familiar with while they try to figure him out. It's a story about cultural differences and finding common ground with people in another country. I suppose one could argue that there is some racism in it, but considering that most of the actors are Indian, I think most people realize it's not meant to be taken seriously. It's a bit twisted, like Sunny in Philly, or Arrested Development and pushes the envelope a little bit.

I personally am a big fan of Bollywood movies and the last episode where Gupta wants to be a Bollywood star is really funny. That scene where he just randomly breaks out into song with the costume and dancers is SO what those movies are like.

Understood. I've been watching "fish out of water" tv shows since My Favorite Martian and I'm kind of OVER them. That's the only reason this premise gives me the creeps.

If they would just stop making "reality" shows, which are anything but reality, TV would improve vastly, IMO.... especially if they eliminate the shows where people use foul language and get in fights, and such. Then again, I hate all reality TV, and just wish it would go away.

Or put it all on one channel.... :rotfl:

Nowadays I PREFER "reality", not a big fan of scripted shows anymore. I used to write scripts and read them pre production for HBO and don't find much interesting stuff out there anymore. The occasional Lost is a rarity, and even it sold out in the end.

I'm a big fan of true crime, which is MY reality, so I spend a lot time on ID. I used to like Discovery Health, also, but we lost that to OWN. I like a FEW things on Tru but they've sold out to phony "scripted" reality shows like Hardcore Pawn and Operation Repo :scared: which is FAR from TRU. They lost their vision and their premise, which is very disappointing.

The target market for Glee is adults, 18-49 years old.

doesn't matter what they targeted, 10 year old girls,at least every one that I know,is either watching that show or begging their parents to be allowed to...... I think they do realize,BTW who is most interested in their show by now, even if they didn't at first. Check out a few tween girl mags....you'll see what I mean. These aren't kids playing kids, these are adults playing kids, with very adult themes(at least older teen themes)
The characters are hyped like crazy to young girls.

And therein lies the problem: Parents not setting and enforcing boundaries. Perhaps if parents did, they could cordon children back into the boundaries of the past, where children enjoyed watching the things their parents would enjoy.

To be fair, a lot of parents simply don't have these concerns, and therefore don't have any interest in cordoning off their children's interests and preferences.

I don't just "believe"... I know what the network is looking at. I get their press releases every week.

The target audience is most assuredly adults 18-49.

not saying you don't get this info.- just saying, here in the real world of kids, where I live with my own kids and their many friends and online contacts- Glee is VERY hyped to young girls age group. If the shows creators or whoever is behind the concept isn't promoting this to the little kids, then someone is sure doing them a big favor and promoting them!
All you need to do is have kids as friends, and see what they're reading/links they're clicking/listen to them talking.
Again,I think the mean coach is sort of funny, but I'm an adult-the rest,I don't think of it as comedy at all.

I DVR old Cosby shows- and there are lots of older sitcoms on streaming netflix too...HUB plays Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley-which Dh and I (both ancient obviously) love watching!

True. But I think many pp's,like myself, are looking for more shows we can watch WITH our kids, and not have to cringe/fast forward. Like Cosby Show-or The Middle-Or even Everybody Hates Chris-

Nothing affects what children watch more than what parents allow children to watch. Is it hard to set boundaries? If you think that it isn't, then you aren't a parent, and you don't know any parents.

But it's really an insidious situation: The same thing that prompts parents to try to blame others for not getting their way (with regard to the television choices out there) is really what is bringing about the concerns that they have in the first place.

Of course, but going back to what I said before: There needs to be enough of you to matter to advertisers. And: There needs to be enough of you willing to do your part, i.e., watch religiously, and buy products on the basis of watching those advertisements presented during the program.

And therein lies the problem: Parents not setting and enforcing boundaries. Perhaps if parents did, they could cordon children back into the boundaries of the past, where children enjoyed watching the things their parents would enjoy.
And here we parents are. Damned if we do and damned if we don't. If we try to set and enforce boundaries there is little on TV that we can watch with our kids. Or, we can give up and let our kids watch all the sex and violence that the TV executives dish up.

I don't remember ... do you have kids? IIRC you don't.

The best comedy that no one is watching is Community. I am so afraid its going to be canceled.

I watch that. It is really crazy! I miss shows like, Sisters, Designing Women, Cagney and Lacy and all the other good ones, like, the wonder years, Eight is enough, Memories:happytv:

YES!! It's just one of a whole lot of programs that I find offensive. I give each new program one viewing, and as far as so-called "comedies" go, there are NONE that I would watch. The last really good comedy on the air was Frasier!! Shows like "Two and a half men" or "big Bang" or How I met your Mother" are so smutty I can't understand how parents allow their kids to watch.

I don't find BBT to be smutty at all. I don't know if it's kid-appropriate, but on the smuttiness scale, it barely registers.

You mean it's not all about getting 7-yr-olds interested in arts education?! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

As long as people keep watching it, that is NEVER going to happen.

Hehe... no more so than Friday Night Lights was all about getting teens interested in doing more physical activity. ;)

(Did any other FNL fans hear? Minka Kelly is being considered for the new Charlie's Angels production...)

Do you have kids or not, bicker?

Whatever happened to the Family Hour? remember? 8-9PM was family hour. Now my kids want to watch Teen Nick and see Degrassi, um no, Giganti, um no, and Dirty Little Liars, um NONONONONONONO.

Anything on at 8? That's NOT Zoey 101 or Hannah Montana?

I am curious about your username...you often preach a middle road, yet bicker?

That was never anything official, though.

you often preach a middle road
Yes, true, though more specifically, I "preach" integration of everyone's perspectives and preferences into our expectations of what should be. I think some folks wouldn't necessarily consider that a "middle road".

yet bicker?
It's a family name. I've had it since birth.
