i miss laughing and feeling good while watching tv.. come on enough crime show, hospital drama... im really getting sick of the drama... that is why i like my hallmark for little house and golden girls.. and tv land for roseanne ,.. im even watch married with children. and now i can watch whos the boss ... missing TGIF ..

I agree that there are not enough comedy in this world.

I just got into a show on ABC called The Middle. It is on Wed night and it is pretty funny.

Remember every night at least one channel had at least two comedies on. Now they are very rare.

I have said the same thing - reminiscing about TGIF. It was perfect for us and our two kids who were young at the time. DD26 still watches reruns of Full House. It was a nice relaxing night at the end of an always busy week.

And I have been watching Golden Girls, too, whenvever I get the time. I do miss quality sitcoms.

They may not be sitcoms you like....

but CBS has nothing but sitcoms from 8-10 on Monday
ABC from 8-10 on Weds and
NBC from 8-10 on Thurs

There might be more on, but we watch most of them during those times.

There are some great sitcom on television right now. Our favorite is Modern Family. It is followed by a pretty decent sitcom, Cougar Town. While we're not fans, I hear that Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are also very good.

While not a sitcom (rather, it is a character-driven comedy), How I Met Your Mother is another show we like a lot and never miss an episode. Pay cable also offers a couple of great character-driven comedies, including United States of Tara, Weeds, and Nurse Jackie.

BTW, Matthew Perry (Friends) and Allison Janney (West Wing) are heading up a new comedy on ABC, Mr. Sunshine, starting early next month.

And then of course there is a show that has the distinction of providing the greatest number of laughs, overall, during its 20+ year run: The Simpsons.

The Middle is really funny ~ especially the episode a couple of weeks ago where the parents take the house back :rotfl2: I watch lots of oldies or I DVR them to watch when there is nothing else on.

I miss shows like Frasier, Home Improvement, etc. I also miss shows like Northern Exposure and Picket Fences and X-Files ~ quirky and funny.

I enjoy many of the older comedies, especially Roseanne, Everybody Loves Raymond, All in the Family, etc. I do enjoy the hospital shows too though like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, used to love ER until the final season, Chicago Hope, St. Elsewhere, Mercy, Miami Medical, etc. There are a few current comedies that we enjoy like Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mike & Molly, $%@& My Dad Says, Rules of Engagement but we did tire of the crime shows like CSI. Also love Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons and watch those whenever I run across them.

It seems like so many of the new shows are cancelled after only a few episodes. They yank them even before they finish a full season. And some they keep moving around to different nights, it's hard to follow.

The best comedy that no one is watching is Community. I am so afraid its going to be canceled.

The Middle and Modern Family are awesome! They are our must-see TV!!

I agree, we do need more sit-coms. I'm tired of watching everyone else's "reality" or all the downer dramas.

I do really like Chelsea Lately, a talk show on E!

We watch Community, but I didn't mention it because, while it is good, it's only "good" imho, rather than good enough for me to recommend to others.

I find that sometimes they go too far making humor out of poking fun at being offensive (especially with Chevy Chase's character, but also with regard to how they often make humor out of marginalizing admittedly exaggerated but still serious psychological issues that some of the characters have).

To be fair, I don't typically worry too much about pushing the envelope, but in most other circumstances where shows push envelopes, they are pushing the envelope in a positive direction, toward greater compassion, understanding, acceptance, etc. Community seems to push, exclusively, in the negative direction, toward fostering old, practically discarded, stereotypes, toward old, practically remedied, insensitivies. Bleh.

I also think Community relies a bit too much on meta-humor - humor about humor, in-jokes, humor that relies on understanding some unrelated context (such as some lesser-known Sci-Fi universes), etc.

However, having said all that, we still watch it, so go figure.

I watch Big Bang Theory, Cougar Town and The Office. I also loooooove Chuck, which isn't a comedy as such, but it has a lot of comedic undertones.

BBT makes me laugh out loud, much to the dismay of my cat.

And I still record Friends. At this point, I'm sure I've seen every episode at least ten times but nothing makes me laugh the way that show did. It keeps me sane, especially after a long, draining day at work :)

And I love a good drama, but so many of the ones on TV right now are either depressing or creepy. That's why I love Mad Men. And Hawaii Five-0 is just fun to watch. I don't have nightmares from watching it. So many of the popular dramas make me feel completely unsettled after watching them, so I usually don't.

I wish there was more funny out there too. Our favorite is Modern Family. I haven't caught Cougar Town yet but so many people rave I'll go DVR it now.

I hate to say it but lately we're getting our laughs from "The World's Dumbest" series and "It only hurts when I laugh"... guilty pleasures but I NEED my giggles and if sit-coms won't do it then a guy snow boarding on an old shed that breaks will:rotfl:

What I miss more than just funny is NON-filthy funny. Where did all the funny writers go? We love Brian Regan's stuff, wish there was more of him out there, my kids have him on their Ipod touch

I also loooooove Chuck, which isn't a comedy as such, but it has a lot of comedic undertones.
Well, keep in mind that MG presented Chuck to the network as "a high-concept action dramedy about spies and twentysomethings". So, yup, we can definitely consider it as much a comedy as a drama (but clearly not a sitcom - it is another character-driven comedy).

And I love a good drama, but so many of the ones on TV right now are either depressing or creepy. That's why I love Mad Men. ...
Okay, you've confused me, there. I find Mad Men very depressing at times, and even a little creepy. (Remember the lawnmower scene? Remember how Ida Blankenship died?)

And Hawaii Five-0 is just fun to watch. I don't have nightmares from watching it.
Okay, so by "creepy" you mean "spookily creepy" rather than "weird-creepy". :) I can see that.

um. A lot of people watch Community...

Community, 30 Rock and Parks & Recreation(which returns this Thursday
) are 3 of the best shows on TV right now. They are so funny. But sadly these are the only sitcoms on that we find funny at all.

I completely agree. Community is one of the best comedies on TV right now. Anyone who isn't watching it is missing out. DH and I belly laugh more than once suring every single episode. Some other comedy faves of mine are The Middle and Modern Family.

I really love Modern Family but rarely do I laugh out loud like I do with Community and The Middle.

OH I also love 30Rock!

I can't begin to understand what people like about the Big Bang Theory. I have tried really hard to like it but it just isn't funny at all. The characters are so obnoxious. Ugh!

um. A lot of people watch Community...
To be fair, the previous poster has good reason to be concerned. Community is the worst-rated sitcom on NBC right now, and among the major networks, only Better With You on ABC is in worse shape.

Actually, it isn't doing as well as it should be. It is in a group right now of what are called "bubble shows", which means it has a lot of viewers, but not as many as the network would like. Bubble shows are shows that are good shows but should be doing better than they are and are therefore always teetering near the edge of being cancelled and replaced with something else.

The lawnmower scene is probably the one thing out of that entire show that just didn't "fit" for me. It seemed so completely out of place. I was shocked. It seemed like a gimmick instead of the beautifully crafted show that it normally is.

As for Miss Blankenship, that was sad but not depressing. I can't really put my finger what the difference means to me in this sense. But a show like Grey's Anatomy is more depressing than sad.

Okay, so by "creepy" you mean "spookily creepy" rather than "weird-creepy". :) I can see that.

Yeah. Shows like CSI totally creep me out. And SVU makes me want to curl up in bed and never trust another living being. I think the problem is that it's too true-to-life for me.

Weird-creepy I'm fine with... I was a huge Heroes fan and was one of ten people in America who thought the last season with the carnival was the best season out of the entire series.

I think the difference with Hawaii is that it doesn't have a "dark" feeling to it... and some of it is slightly over-the-top and doesn't give me that feeling of "this could really happen to me." IDK. Maybe it's just that the main characters make me swoon. Ha.

Hey OP... Hot in Cleveland returns on January 19th... you should check it out :)

I meant that I found that scene creepy (not necessarily depressing - and weird-creepy, not spookily-creepy)... Peggy finding her just dead at her desk, and then the scene with her being wheeled out of sight on her chair where she died, covered by a throw blanket.

ok, guess my vision is skewed by the fact that everyone I know watches and loves it. It's probably going to be another show that gets axed because too many people watch shows that (IMO) cater to the lowest common denominator. There have been far too many shows that have stayed on the air over the years that to us are so horribly written, acted, unfunny but that so many people love. :confused3

I'd continue, but I think it's best to stop before I offend too many people with an attack on their taste.
