First let me say that I LOVE the DIS and the folks here. However, due to the current atmosphere of the DIS on occasions, I wish we had a "tongue in cheek" smilie to help everyone (including myself) know sarcasm vs. an honest (however silly) question. I killed a thread (sniff sniff) on the Theme Park boards because I really wasn't sure if the person was kidding or not. When someone else posted "I really hope you're joking" to the OP, I think the person was offended that the humor didn't come through. So, I responded saying that I wasn't sure either if the person was kidding and the response was "how could you not tell???!!!" I then apologized, but the tread was dead at that point. I felt bad. Sometimes I PURPOSELY don't post in fear of hurting someone's feelings because I may have misunderstood something.
In speaking with people in person, you can take cues from their expression, body language, and tone to help you understand that they are being sarcastic. Sometimes it just doesn't come through when typing.
Since we don't have a little "tongue in cheek guy", I think it's important to remember that. (or not!--insert tongue in cheek guy here)
