We love rack rate! Aug 1-17 More NEW pics 9/1!

I realized after I read back through that I really hadn't explained in detail about Ohana. I am still irritated about it, and I may even write a letter to WDW because I am having a hard time getting past it. On the other hand, I was sick that day so maybe I am just disproportionately upset about it.

Our ADR was for 10:50 AM, but we got to the podium about 10:20 and we were seated about 10 minutes later. Our waitress was fine. She brought the drinks and food out quickly and checked back with us at reasonable intervals. Pluto came by the table right after we got our food.

We saw Mickey, Lilo, and Stitch circulating around the dining room. Fine. We have done dozens of character meals, we know the drill, no problem. We saw all of the characters go back for a break, then we saw them all come back out.

By this time we had been there about 45 minutes. It doesn't take us 45 minutes to eat a family-style meal, so we had been sitting there doing nothing. The waitress had asked if we wanted more of anything, and when we said no she said "Just characters, right?" I gave her our room card to pay for breakfast because I really just wanted to finish up and leave.

The character handler came by and asked if we had seen all of the characters. We told him NO, we only saw Pluto. I specifically told him we were paying the bill right then. He said the others would come right over. But they didn't. They continued in their normal pattern through the tables, the waitress brought our receipt, and we got up to leave. I made eye contact with the character handler but he didn't say anything. It was late enough that no new families were being seated and the dining room wasn't very crowded. He could have pulled the characters out of rotation one at a time for a photo before we left. I know this because they did it for us at Chef Mickey's.

DS is old enough that he wasn't terribly upset, but that's not the point. Those character meals are supposed to have each character coming by each table no matter how old the guests at the table may be. The fact that we spoke to the handler and he did NOTHING is what continues to irk me 2 weeks after the fact.

If I had to pinpoint the things about our trip that weren't great, I would put that Ohana breakfast up there with waiting 43 minutes for a bus. Not the norm, but really not acceptable, either.

DS wanted to share some of the pics he took. I will have to upload more later.

They are all three wonderful, but this one caught my eye. A month from now we will be eating here for the first time!

Thanks!

We liked Narcoosee's. Maybe not as much as Flying Fish and Yachtsman, but we did like it! I had a horrible headache the night we ate there so that might have taken away from the experience a little bit. Our table was also really close to the table behind us. There were kids at that table who kept getting up and down and they were bumping DS and DH's chairs.

In all the 50+ trips we have taken to WDW we have never eaten at Narcoossee's or Citricos or Flying Fish. "Why?" you might ask? Because Bob does not really like seafood (unless it is fried flounder). He decided he needed to be a little more adventurous so I booked as many new places as I possibly could for next month! :rotfl2:

DH had steak at Citrico's and Narcoosee's! :rotfl2:

And Bob might too. But I am trying to persuade him to try the pork or the chicken since I know he will eat steak at Le Cellier and Yachtsman. And remember, we are only there for 5 nights, not weeks and weeks like you all were. ;) I think even my meat and potatoes man would get sick of steak in that time frame!

Your ds took some great pics.

I would be very upset about the whole Ohana experience myself. We do pay extra for it because of the characer experience. We have a 10:00 ressie in January. I wonder if I should call for an earlier time.

How is your mom doing? I hope everything is going well with her treatments.

Thanks! Since DH got his dSLR cameras DS has decided he wants to try to take pics, too!

I am still waffling on whether or not to complain to WDW about Ohana.

Mom is doing well, thanks! She has a chemo infusion this Thursday, then they are switching her to a different drug for 12 more infusions. Hopefully she will tolerate the new one as well as she has tolerated the current one! She is back at work now so she is really tired all the time, but she is plugging away! I am hoping I can get up there to see her sometime in the next couple of months if airfare will cooperate.

I keep remembering things I meant to include! :rotfl:

We got to ride in the front of the monorail from MK back to the Poly one afternoon. This was the second time we have done that, but the first time was at night. We each got a little "monorail co-pilot" card. :)

We were able to purchase a T-shirt with the Spanish monorail saying (Por favor, mantengase aledo de las puertas) for DS. They had them in adult sizes at Epcot, but we found youth sizes at the Poly and GF. :thumbsup2

Another day on the monorail the dad sitting across from us reached up to stretch. There were 2 little notches in the ceiling panel, so he hooked his fingers in there. BIG mistake! That's how you pull the emergency exit panel down! :lmao: The whole panel came loose. His wife motioned to the monorail driver when we stopped at the TTC to come help. Meanwhile, the dad was holding the panel up looking rather sheepish. The monorail man did not look very happy!

Poor guy! At least he held it up & they didn't have to do an emergency stop.

Great report, sounds like you had a great trip!
I can't wait to go. I'll remember to stay away from the monorail emergency exit panels.

LOVE "The Seas" one. The colors are beautiful!

The pictures look wonderful! I ditto Tia, I love the Nemo picture & I remember your dh taking that one. Tell him good job :thumbsup2

Those are some great photos!

I hate that you had such a bad experience at O'hana! I don't think a letter to WDW is unreasonable. You are exactly right, you pay for a character meal because you expect to see characters! I can only imagine what kind of reaction you would get out of a young child who was really excited to see all of them and couldn't understand why they didn't get to!

Keep adding all of the details you forgot! I know I will forgot tons of things when I do my report!

You're pictures are amazing. I often forget to stop and take pictures of the magic around me. Great Tr:goodvibes
