We leave on Saturday for our trip, which we've been planning, literally, for the past year, and DD2.5 is throwing up today.

OK, so I know she'll be better by Saturday, but I'm freaking out about the rest of us!

I know there's nothing to do but cross our fingers and see how this plays out, but I just had to come here where I thought I'd be able to get some sympathy.

We've got so much planned, and I'm feeling so bummed right now.

Aww sorry to hear she is sick....give her a big hug from her Dis friends!!!
For the rest of you..just keep washing hands, even use paper plates and cups if you have to and make sure you keep changing the hand towel(s) in your bathroom(s).

Ill keep my fingers crossed for you all..hopefully no one else will get it!!
Have a great trip!!!

We leave this Wed. and my 7mth old has been to the Dr. 3 times in the last 4 days. Her Dr. knows about our upcoming trip and tells me that she is treating her more aggressively because we are going out of town and wants to help get her as well as possible before the trip. Call your Dr., a quick visit and maybe some meds and she'll be set!

We once flew with both kids having the stomach flu (one threw up at the check-in counter, the other in the car just before he stepped out!), one having strep as well. What did we do?

We got on the airplane, asked for trash bags and extra towels, and got on with it! We made sure to bring soda crackers for the 5-hour flight, but it worked out well. The flight attendants were not too thrilled with us, but what could we do? It was two days before Christmas and there was no way that the airlines would reschedule us without a fee, let alone find us available seats at that time of year.

Yes, we sound like horrible people, but we weren't throwing over $1,500 in airline tickets away, as well as 3 weeks in California with family I only see once a year. The way the airlines are not flexible about illness leaves passengers with no alternative but to fly.

For our WDW trip, DH & I have already discussed what to do if someone gets sick, and that would be to go anyway, the sick person staying behind in the hotel. If it's a kid, we'd tag team so we'd both get out to the parks.

I hope your DD feels better!

Our family swears by AIRBORNE! :thumbsup2
If one of the 5 gets sick, the others take it ASAP, we usually keep our immune systems strong enough to fight it off.

I use it when I have to travel because I used to catch a cold everytime I flew:sick:

Good luck and have fun!!

Thankfully, stomach stuff is usually quick! Wash, wash, wash your hands. Hugs and good wishes...

Don't forget to pack the Immodium, tons of extra wipes, anti bactieral lotion and either diapers or pull-ups. Just in case. The quick visit to the doctor too is a good idea. At the very least they can give you some suggestions should anyone else come down with it.

My prayers are with you. Good luck and hugs to your little one.

My son, never fails, gets sick every time we go on vacation. We tease him about it now. He is constantly touching things and then putting his hands in his mouth(hey, he's 6, he'll learn soon, i hope).

He has thrown up at Universal Studios, The Virginia Living Museum, and on trains, planes and automobiles. I think we should start a barf scrapbook.:rotfl2:

Good luck to you!!

It's the Noro virus....??? It has been going around dd's school and knocked our family on our socks this week-end. It only lasts 24 hours...but it spreads like wild-fire....WASH YOUR HANDS...WASH EVERYTHING!

You go woman! :thumbsup2 I got alot of crap on here for even suggesting I was taking my 6 yr old who was 3 weeks out from mono- she was just about completely normal and some people acted like I was abusing her or something by taking her to Disney, carting her butt around in a stroller and catering to her every whim. :rotfl2:

Thanks, everyone! It may be the roto virus, as she had a lot of diarrhea, too -- still does, though she's not throwing up any more. In fact, she's doing a lot better. She has a fever today, but is holding down water, gatorade and toast.

I'm debating calling the doctor, but to be honest, a part of me feels like there's not much she'd be able to do, and I don't want to risk going there and catching new germs!

The rest of us are fine so far --- to be honest, I wish we'd all just start throwing up like crazy so that I knew we'd all just get it out of our system!

There is not much a doctor can do about a virus. But you do want to make sure she is not dehydrated so you may want to check her out for that.

Just make sure your other kids wash their hands, and use precautions. Of course at this point she has already been though the most contagious stage so if they are going to get it then they there is not much you can do. The incubation period for rotavirus disease is approximately 2 days so if anyone else in the house is going to get it then you should know it before your trip. Just make sure you keep giving your daughter plenty to drink so she doesn't get dehydrated.

wash hands, take airborne (I sware by this stuff when it's flu session) spray everything w/clorox clean up-and if you are going to get it pray you get it today or tomorrow & the rest of your family too so you aren't flying w/it. Stomach things normally only last 24 hrs. We went to a Super bowl party were 11 (yes 11) of us got sick w/in 6-8 hrs of each other--it was worse than the flu-DS2 was the only one who got it 3 days later than the rest of us-remember NOTHING for 4-6 hrs after throwing up (DH didn't believe that so he was just a little bit worse off than the rest of us) Good luck & I hope no one else gets it!! my DD had rotovirus when she was 22 months-it was terrible feel better :-)

I agree with you! Extra vitamins, the BRAT diet for the stomach problems...definitely be washing your hands and all in the house, paper towels at each sink, your ped might be able to give her something for the nausea if she's still sick by the flight. I have gotten a shot of something the last time I was so sick and couldn't handle being nausea and had four kids to care for while husband was out of town. Good luck! She should be good by the time she's supposed to have fun!

what a coincedence. we leave on sat. too and my son was up most of the night last night throwing up, but he seems better this morning. keeping down his water and cheerios just fine. even after coughing up a lung he is keeping his breakfast down. i am just going to keep him on a clear liquid, easy solid diet for a while and hope it all clears up. now as for me and the BF getting it, i don't think we could tell the diffrence anyway, we have both been suffering form morning sickness from this pregnancy, LOL. both of us, i think thats kind of funny.

I guess I'll be the sole naysayer...When my kids or I get sick we stay home. Not only does it help us get better quicker but why would we want to inflict that misery on others? Yes, we may lose some money but that is the luck of the draw. This comes from our last trip to Disney. Youngest ds was sick first and spread to the rest of us on our trip back home. The end result was me in the hospital for 3 days with a final diagnosis of "cruise ship illness" - i.e. the disney hotel room was cleaned too quickly and not thoroughly enough. Youngest ds still does not want to return to Disney as he "never wants to be that sick again". So thanks to whoever had the room before us at POR - glad we saved your vacation dollars while you ruined ours.

If blaming your illness on the family before you helps you then fine, but do not burn people for doing things they want to do. We may not all be feeling the best but Disney makes us feel better..plus some people just can't afford to loose that kind of money. My son has gotten sick in Disney a couple of time, I am not psychic, how could I have known he was going to get strep throat in Disney. I COULDN'T. It was not the family before you's fault for getting you sick. Wow, I am sorry for this tangent but I am a mom of a one year old and i have one on the way......I wish I could tell when my kid is going to get sick, then maybe I could make preperations for me not to get it. Although the nausea I have now prolly has NOTHING to do with what my son has.

Oh, it does sound like roto virus. We all had it 3 weeks ago. Started with DD age 2. She threw up one night; then had diarrhea for next 10 days. About half way through that time, DH got it. His just lasted 1 1/2 days. I got it the next day, and mine lasted on and off for 6 days. Definitely take Immodium with you. But the first day, I couldn't even sip water or sprite; so every time I took the medicine I would throw it back up (I know--gross). With roto virus, the vomiting normally goes away after the first day, but what comes next is not too pleasant.

Um, CFD, maybe you didn't read their post. They are talking about leaving and knowing their child is sick. Nobody expects someone to see into the future and know their child will get sick on vacation. Those things just happen and its again the luck of the draw - I have two children myself. But to go on vacation with a sick and potentially contagious child is a different story altogether. And for the record, no, it doesn't make me feel better to blame the previous family. It was a tongue in cheek statement after reading people stating they cannot afford to lose their vacation money by having to cancel though it is perfectly acceptable for them to knowingly take sick children somewhere, make other people sick and ruin those strangers vacations. But maybe that's just simple common courtesy.
