Dh just called me and they are cutting down on his job. He has one full time job and then 3 nights a week he works a part-time job. They are cutting down two of the three nights that he works his part-time job. I work outside the home too and have a part-time job. Our disabled son depends on me to take him to and from his job, so it is important that I keep the part-time job that I have because it is flexible and it is in our area.

I can tell he is in panic mode already. He's talking about working two shifts on Saturday instead, or working Saturday and Sunday - okay, there goes our chances of ever doing anything as a family again. Not that we were planning on going away or anything, but he used to work both days on the weekend and it sucked. I know he has to do whatever he can to make the money, but I'm not looking forward to the change! And I'm not looking forward to his mood until it gets straightened out either.

It just seems that we cannot get ahead, and now we will be falling behind. The news reports every night tell of the rising prices in gas, food and just about everything else - now we will have less money and the prices will be higher.:headache:

I feel your pain...My dh runs a restaurant and is the head chef. He only has 1 day off a week if he is lucky and NEVER has a weekend off. If his other managers are out of town, sick, or on vacation he works the full 7 days. Plus 5 days a week he is there from 8am-11pm. he only gets 2 weeks vacation a year and has been with this restaurant 8 years.

I've heard that food service is one of the toughest professions to be in. Does he own the restaurant too? It's so hard at family events isn't it when the husband is not there. When our kids were little it was a challenge to watch them all by myself.
I'm sure we'll get through this as we have with every other employment disaster. It's just that with the economy being what it is and prices going up and up, now is not the time for less income to being coming in!:sad2:

He is a partner but the other partner is 73 years old so he does nothing. It is very hard on me more so than the kids. My dd3 has only known this so she isn't really affected yet and my older kids are by a previous marriage so they are used to just me :lovestruc we only have one day and its usually a Tuesday so I make every effort to not work on that day. I just work part time a couple of days a week. We make the best of the time we have but I'm honestly used to it now. I knew what I was getting into when we got married so I can't really complain. But, I always hate hearing my sister complain about her Dh having to work extra hours here and there...he is off everyday by 3pm and only works Mon-Fri. I could only dream of those hours!

:grouphug:
today I looked over the bills (closely) for the past two months and noticed such an increase :confused3
The I looked further:
Food was Up...
Oil was Up...
Cable was Up...
Gas was Up....
Electric was Up...And overall it went up A LOT, when it goes out individually, one tends to notice it less..so today I
Called cable and threatened to disconnect, they lowered my monthly by 30+ tax :) some "promo" for long standing customers...new people still pay less
I can basically do nothing today, about the rest, but that one change made me smile....
Everything/costs are UP and per the news, will be getting worse  in the next few months..............scary indeed....my work of course is DOWN, way down actually, so for now, I'll be watching much more closely............not the way we usually live ..but thankful none the less...........Good Luck to you OP and to all of us... keep abreast of your financial situations more closely:wizard:
