We can go the beginning of December or August -- last August was really miserable (rain, heat), but I really prefer going when it's warm enough to be by the pool.

Which is the better gamble for nicer weather, according to your experiences?

I would definitly choose early December. Cooler weather, less crowds and Christmas decorations!!

I agree early December is better. Weather, rates and crowds are much better. Not to mention the extra magic created at WDW with the holidays and all the festivities.

Another December vote here. I don't like being there when it is sooo hot! And like Daisy64 said the Christmas decorations, cooler weather, and lighter crowds are great. Good luck with your decision.

I vote August!!!! I love going during this month. Yeah, sometimes its hot, but the rain comes (usually quickly) and its then kind of cooler. August of 2002 we went, and it was really hot. We looked forward to that 15-30 min rain storms, which cooled us all off and then it was back to business. Last year however (August 2003) we were there during the Hurricane further South and Orlando was perfect. I'm talking mid- 70's from the Sunday - Thursday. No rain, and it was warm enough to get in the pools because of the humidity. Friday - Sunday was warmer in the upper to mid 90's. This August 8-15 we are returning and I'm hoping for the cooler weather, but it not I'll find a wet ride to cool me off.

The crowds brings excitement to me. I went to Disney/US in September 2001 (a few weeks after 9-11) and it was almost boring. The parks were almost empty. We couldn't hardly find the characters, and everything seemed so "dead". Now I realize that we were all going thru a tough time, but I thought Disney would be a great diversion. NOT!!!!!!

We have been both times, the decorations in December are really gorgeous, but when we went in 1999 it was downright COLD in the evenings. If you are dying to try a water park or do lots of pool time I feel December is a gamble. Some people think swimming in 50 or 60 degree weather is fine because the pools are heated, but I can't do it, especially with kids. However, I am a transplant from the deep south so you may feel differently. In August you know it will be hot and muggy, but I feel going in and out of the air conditioning all day long, as well as taking pool breaks, makes it bearable. All depends on what you really want to do when you are there. Good luck deciding!

December - great atmosphere, people are generally happier, decorations are up - lots of fun - might be too cool for pool time though

Being that you are from Ohio, I bet will really enjoy the low crowds and higher Winter temps!!!! And its sooo beautiful there during Christmas!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies -- but one more question. How much of a chance do you think that December is pool weather?

WDW pools are heated.

I love swimming in the winter months at night. There is a mist that hangs just above the water. It's great. That is until you have to get out
