We have been members since 1998 and for the past 11 years we have had the incurable case of 'addonitis'. 
At this point, we have 5 home resorts (HHI, OKW, SSR, VGC, AKV) and I am sure we will have more with additional add ons we have planned down the road. Some of our add ons were to allow us 'home resort' advantage (11 month booking window) and others were just to add to our total pot of points.
Our long term plan is to use our DVC points as our version of a second home (retirement) purchase. The nice thing about using points instead of purchasing a second home is that we can choose to go wherever we want that particular year. It does not tie us down to one place year after year while allowing us to get out of the Ohio winters for a while.
Didn't mean to write a novel but wanted to say there are probably many different reasons why a person would own more than one home resort. My reason may be quite different from others you will read on this thread.
