We just bought a camper!! WooHoo!!!

The GVWR on this trailer is just over 6300 with the gas tanks filled. We have a 4 door LS Tahoe and had a travel trailer last time that "bone dry" weighed 7300 and the Tahoe pulled it. So, hopefully we'll be able to do it.

I meant to say we were buying mom's TUNDRA. Dh said there's a big towing difference. As you can tell, I don't know about these things, just along for the ride! LOL!

Other than going into the higher elevations of Tennessee to pick up the trailer, we'll mainly be using it on the low, flat I-10 from LA to FL to camp at the fort.

If I am reading correctly, that is 6,336 pounds minus cargo. Remember I said the dry weight of your camper was 6150.

And depending on which model of TACOMA you are getting, the tow capacities are 7700/8100/10400/10600.

And the whole point isn't whether your tow vehicle can tow your unit, it is whether or not you are towing too much weight to stop safely. Overweight trailers "take over" control of a situation instead of you being able to safely maneuver your tow vehicle to control the situation.

I always recommend to friends that they have a least a 500 -1000 pound fudge factor with what their tow vehicle says they can tow and what their fully loaded camper actually weighs.

If you have the BIG Tundra, then you are fine. If you have the small Tundra, then you are too close.

The weights you are showing on the sticker mean that your trailer could weigh as much as 7950 fully loaded. (It could potentially weigh more than that if you overload the trailer axles.)

Okay, guys. After reading your input, Steve and I have decided to buy a diesel truck to pull our trailer. Your advice was all good and while mom's Tundra would pull a little better than the Tahoe, why get something that's just a LITTLE better? We want something that will pull the trailer anywhere we want to go.
So, thanks for all of the input, it was taken to heart.

I second your decision to buy a diesel truck! We pulled our Rockwood 34 foot TT with a Toyota Sequoia to Disney twice from NC and also to Myrtle Beach twice and though we were well within the weight limits it just never felt totally secure. Now we have a Chevy 2500 diesel truck and the difference in towing is HUGE! Enjoy your new camper!

SO happy to hear that! The diesel will be great and they really hold their value. We had camping neighbors the 4th of July who were towing a camper that was right on the edge of the limits of their truck. When they got home, they were getting a new tow vehicle. He was only doing 50/55 the whole way from Maryland to Virginia, but he said he had white knuckles the whole time. He was really dreading the trip home.

Have fun with your new camper. It is a beaut. If I looked at it right, I think you have the rear living room. We have that in our 5th wheel and I just love the layout.

We feel much better about the decision to get a diesel as well. My mom will simply trade her Tundra in when she's ready to get something else.

Yes, it does have the rear living area. This will be our first time to own one with that layout but we thought we'd try it. I love the big shower it has but really wish it had a pantry in the kitchen. I know I'll miss that but this was just too good a deal on a new trailer to pass up. I guess it's give and take.

Thank you again, everyone for your good advice. Have a good weekend.

Congrats on the new camper!

You are making a good choice by going with the diesel. We made the mistake of having too small of a tow vehicle with our first camper.

Getting a new tow vehicle was a very good choice. When we bought our first travel trailer a 2004 28' Wildwood Bunkhouse we towed it with a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer with the larger V6....towed it three times and that was it. Took the trailer to a seasonal site and that was it. Never towed it again, bought a new trailer and had it delivered to the seasonal site and let the delivery guys tow the other unit away.

DH and I agreed that if we ever chose to tow another travel trailer or 5th wheel it will be with a truck that can handle the load. We tow our golf carts and Polaris Range with our utility trailer all the time but we use our 2006 Dodge Durango with the 4.7 V8 in it.

Hey, congrats on the new TT! So am I seeing correctly and you are buying it at Campers Corner in Nashville?? We've looked at the Jayco's there before. Sure are nice trailers.

You will not regret the diesel decision.

What part of La are you from. I am in Sulphur 20 miles from Tx on I10
