My husband just spoke with our Rep and worked out the final details for our SSR purchase - we purchased 225 points and thanks to these boards we asked them to be split into 2 contracts - 1 for 150 and 1 for 75. Our Rep said that it might take a couple extra days for us to receive our packet because of Hurricane Frances. They are planning for the worst, he has been there for 8 years and this is the first time he has seen it like this. He has even made a decision to leave his home and head away for a few days. The stress of this one happening so close to Charley has to be unbelievable for these residents. Lets all hope and pray that all of Florida comes through this ok.

Not sure about DawnL's case, but there are two reasons typically given:

1. Ease of reselling part of your total number of points. You can only sell all of the points in a contract; if you own 300, you can sell 100 and keep 200.

2. Ease of passing ownership to heirs/others. If you have 2 children, 2 contracts of 150 each would simpler to "gift".

We bought 300 pts last Tuesday 8/24/04, on the last day of our vacation, for SSR. We are so excited and are already thinking about adding on more pts in the next week.

Hello! I've been looking into DVC for a couple of weeks/months now. I just returned from our 1st time visit to WDW!! Cut short our week long trip to just 3N/4D, returning on Weds to stay clear of Hurricane Frances!! I was hoping to visit with DVC club rep on this visit, but will have to wait (if I can stand it!) until our return visit end of Oct/1st 2week Nov. I'm interested in being able to use any DVC points purchased during week before Christmas in the furture. Should I look to purchase points with use year in February? What do you think?

We decided to do a split and purchase 2 contracts for the exact reasons that DrTomorrow gave. We have 2 DD's and are plans are to eventually add another 75 points to the other contract and be able to leave them each with their own seperate 150 point contract. The added plus for easier re-sales of smaller contracts or the ability to sell off one and keep the other was just a nice added safeguard for us. I have been a fan and user of the DIS boards for years for DCL, resorts, etc., and I knew exactly where to turn when we still had a few questions after attending the tour at SSR and returning home from our vacation. These boards are absolutely wonderful - thanks to everyone for your help!!
