I don't panic unless they are big, but I always feel a little bit scared around dogs. I'm sure they can sense it, because I'm always the one they want to sniff . I guess I must have been traumatized at as a kid or something. Dogs can be very sweet and cute, but usually I'd rather see from afar (like in a movie :teeth: ). Plus I don't like the licking, jumping, and especially the smell (hence my tag). I like dogs who act like cats
:cat:.

Anyone else feel uneasy when someone's dog approaches you?

Krista, wanna come meet my 75 pound Labrador?

She acts like a cat- she'll come up and lean on you and brush up against you like a cat.

:p

I never used to be, until I encountered a mean dog while out walking one afternoon. I had walked by the house many times and they just had a Beagle - no problem there - but the last time they also had a big black dog. Didn't think anything of it, just kept walking. The dog started barking then came out to the road. I talked calmly to it and offered the back of my hand for him to sniff - he chose to bare his teeth and growl at me instead. Yikes! I tried to take a step away, he took one towards me, another step and he took another. I was really scared he was going to lunge at me, but I was finally able to walk away - whew! I don't walk that way any more!!

Sure, Kathy. It could be dog-phobia therapy for me :teeth:.

Interestingly, I am not bothered by large dogs at all. Really I am quite comfortable around them. It's the small toy sized dogs that get to me. Something like a daschund or a chihuahua really can make me very nervous. I got bit in the eye by a daschund as a child and a roommate in college got a chihuahua who was very snippy (tried to bite people) I am just very wary to approach those types and pet them now.

Big dogs make me nervous. I know it has to do with experiences as a kid. I was bitten by a dog that I knew and was familiar to me; no one was really sure why. I had reached out to pet her and she bit my hand. I also witnessed two dogs (a german shepard and a black lab) killing my kitten when I was about 7 years old.

I'm scared of really big ones. Once when I was little I had this paper route....and here was this one house who had an eight foot tall mutant poodle! He would always run at the window and bark at me. Then one day the window was open and the mutant poodle stuck his head out and tried to eat me! I ran like heck and threw the paper at the house from there on out!

SOME dogs freak me out a bit. My FIL has a neighbor that has two BIG pit bulls, and they leave them out in the backyard ALL DAY long... (no one is home). I won't let my girls play out there because these dogs seem able to jump the fence. Whenever you go back there, they are hanging over the fence barking like mad at you. It's just scarey. The owner swares they won't bite, but they still freak me out.

OMG! VampHeartless.....Just noticed you're holding kittens! Don't you know they can slice you to ribbons!!! :scared: As far as dogs go, never been afraid. As a toddler I was knocked down by some large hunting dogs and not allowed to get up. My Mom freaked but I thought it was funny. Been loving all dogs ever since. (Even had a Pitt Bull I allowed in my bed.) Opps.....supposed to be heading to DTD......gotta run!!!

I'm scared of really big dogs and I absolutely hate those little yipping rat-dogs. I'm not scared of them, technically, I just don't want them touching me. Or near me. Or looking at me.

I had 1/2 my scalp removed peeled back by a dog when I was 8 or 9. I still remember the sound of pop when the needle went thru and the shhhhhht noise of the thread following it.... over and over again... Prolly had 50 plus sticthes.

I am leary of dogs... but not scared of them....

I don't trust dogs that are in invisible fences, I will walk across the street to avoid them. My friend had one for her dogs and it didn't faze them one bit, they still ran through it all the time.
